Sheffield United manager Nigel Clough is considering a move for free agent Isaiah Osbourne, according to FLW sources.

Sheffield United are preparing a move for Osbourne

Osbourne, 26, is currently without a club after being released by Blackpool this summer.

The free agent spent two years with the Tangerines from 2012 to 2014, accumulating 28 appearances and scoring one goal during his time at Bloomfield Road.

Osbourne played 19 times during his time at Aston Villa and according to FLW sources, Sheffield United are contemplating signing the midfielder on a one-year deal.

The midfielder has also had spells at Nottingham Forest, Middlesbrough, Sheffield Wednesday and Hibernian.

You can never have enough ex Blackpool players. More miss than hit at Bloomfield Road by all accounts.

Sitters loves him already, bless :D - Just the sort of player we need, don'tyerthink?

Remember him playing for the Pigs (Osbourne that is, not Sitters)

Now this will really add that edge of quality to an area of the pitch that we are struggling to find players to fill, eh?

Why a midfielder? Thought we are after a cb and a striker?

How big does an 18-19 man squad get?

Does Clough's scouting network only revolve around players from Blackpool, Derby and Scotland?

No desrespect to the player and tbh, could be yet another agentesque type bullcrap rumour, but I fail to see the quality that Clough sees that he says will improve our squad, even tho he knows the players he's chasing and I don't. He's already admitted that he hasn't brought in the quality required despite 10/11/12 signings and borne out by the fact he's still having to go out and search for up to 3 more

Come on Cloughy, if having to go out and bring in some more players to improve what imo is a fairly average squad, then make em count

Somewhere in the head scout's office the database ( powered by two hamsters in kilts ) crunches the raw data young Simon fed in ..... anxiously he waits for the results ....

" errrr..... lemme see ....

Blackpool - check
Midfielder - check
1 goal - check
less then 30 appearances for last club - check
rejected by Blackpool - check
Played in Scotland - check
Played for pigs - check
No transfer fee - check

Get our Nige on the phone I have a winner for him - nailed on"

Hes Black - its off.

Osbourne has got a few good attributes, big, strong, athletic, good at tackling, should be able to do the defensive midfield role well. He's never lived up to his promise shown at Aston Villa though, and he seems a bit clumsy. Personally I think we've too many who can play the holding role, and too few who can go forward and score goals. Having said that, one of the three players we were trying to sign on transfer deadline day was apparently a defensive midfielder, so maybe Clough does want someone new there.

I'd be surprised if this one came off and would be concerned if it did as well. Given that Clough himself said they need players who have been playing games. 26 games in 2 seasons and currently without a club would not fit that bill.

I've got an old sat nav the scouts can have loaded with maps UK & Ireland and the rest of Europe. As soon as I block the routes to Derby, Blackpool and Scotland I'll drop it in at the lane. ;););)

Nononononononononononononononononononononobonononno

Any additional recruits will need to be able to make an instant impact and improve the existing standard. I can't see Osbourne being capable of doing either, particularly not having not played this season

Probably a load of rubbish, but he's exactly the sort of player we will sign

A complete load of rubbish. He isn't a free agent, he plays for St Mirren. Embarassing journalism!!
