I think we have more players with a higher ability on the ball but that doesn't make it a better team. Got a good mix of the spine of the old side who know what's required with exciting talent.
Agreed, our premier league team went toe-to-toe with the best, and I actually looked forward to playing Man City, Liverpool etc

This team isn't quite there yet but if it can play as slickly (did I just make up a word) as the 19/20 team then we'll have a side of real quality

Given that 9 players today, including subs, were part of the Premier League team, I'd say it's a moot question.

I think the team we had in the Premier league were very 'all for one' so to speak. I always got the sense they played for and with each other and coupled with the Wilder tactics that got us some huge results. As a younger Blade so to speak I'll never forget that season, it was outstanding.

I do agree with some comments above, the ability looks to be there we just need to focus on making it gel. I've said before I think this club really accepts players not just as a squad addition but brings them in as one of the family and I love that. MGW last season looked like he had a very strong connection with us while he was here, so did Henderson and Berge.

I always judge a team on how they tackle a derby, unfortunately I haven't had the chance for a while.

We're a JOC and a peak Enda away from it. Creatively there's way more talent, but defensively and goal scoring wise, no.

Oh and we now have a solid keeper, rather than an outstanding one.

So, no. It's exciting though and Ndaiye could be really special.

It’s younger & faster.

The average age of our players is significantly lower. We had 10 players in our match day squad today 24 or under.

In 19/20

We had Mousset, Berge, Verrips and McBurnie 24 and under.

Pace is a significant factor. The PL team was more drilled and trained to oblivion in shape and formation, whilst this one has more creativity and flair for the unpredictable.

Goals scored this season wouldn’t have been scored in the PL.

PH will probably stick to his more conservative approach for away games. Can’t blame him for that really.
Attacking tactics and substitutions for way games means we are unlikely to see us over run sides like Luton at their place.
PH got some stick for this approach, losing us points for a win at Boro. He can cut loose a bit for my liking, but it’s worth remembering that we still have players missing through injury, (Bogle, JLT, Clark) and a few still finding match fitness, (Doyle, McAtee). Bash looked handy and ready but he only got a cameo v Blackburn.

Very positive performances, and we are not the finished article yet. Do you envy PH having such great depth on the bench, or just see it as something scary for the opposition?

I reckon that injuries, suspensions and form/tactics should keep them all hungry and positive.

Definitely the 2nd season - I can't think of a worse Utd team ever than that one. F@@king hopeless.

Hard to say after 5 games to be honest, as the team that finished 9th was an excellent team, but built on a very strong defence. The present team seems more attacking and more creative, but as the defence gets used to each other, if we get both then we should have an excellent season.

I’m not so sure. But I am definitely more excited and optimistic about this team than I was for the Wilder PL promotion-winning season or the first year he led us in The PL.

I’m all in, and have therefore ordered a tarpaulin off Amazon for when it all goes tits up and I wet the bed in coming weeks 👍🏻

UTB

There's more potential in this squad than the one we got promoted with, by quite a distance

No Hendo, Stevens or JOC, but Berge, Ndiaye, Khadra, Doyle, McAtee, Brewster, Bogle, Anel..... the extra attacking talent is significant

Question is, can we find the sort of chemistry we had with Duffy, McGoldrick and Sharp..... and I think we can, and much of that centers on Ndiaye's incredible development as a McGoldrick replacement, and the partnerships he seems able to build with all of them

But we do need a CF to start scoring. Doesn't even need to be 1 in 2, 1 in 3 will do. Wish we had Keinan Davis. But Brewster should be capable

The Premier League team was criminally light on creative players, as Wilder had inexplicably given Duffy the boot without replacing him. This team is far more well equipped in that department.

Everywhere else though, the Prem team was probably better. Many of the players are the same but were at the peak of their powers back then.

Is this team that has only played 5 matches of a Championship season better than the team that finished 9th in the Premier League?

Daft question.
Wtf has position in the league or how far through the season we are.

It's a question regarding ability, potential and game winning individuals with that something special.

Daft response, but not unexpected from someone like you.

Would be that the Duffy who couldn't get into the Stoke side while we were 9th in the premier league? We got rid at exactly the right time. The season we went down he was at Fleetwood ( who released him)

Are you on drugs?

I guess the question should really be, would this team beat Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs at home and get good draws against each of them away.

Or does that Premier League team fail to better - losing away at Watford, drawing at Boro and winning our home games…

Otherwise, you’re comparing apples and pears.

When you think of it this way, I think it’s clear what the answer is.

Let’s put it this way this team playing like they are wouldn’t have got relegated from the Premier League and wouldn’t have to deal with a manager going AWOL

But early in proceedings to be making that call they got us our highest finish in nearly 50 years and went unbeaten away from home for nearly a year between 2nd half of the promotion campaign & up to City away at Christmas which in itself was some achievement , very promising start though long May it continue ⚔️

Dare i say it, (and we’re a long long way off this), but I do think Lowe could be as good as Enda given time.

LCB is more of a pickle, can’t we just clone a mirror image of Anel?
