Just wanting to gauge peoples opinions of Jordan Slew.

Obviously the club have moved quickly to get him on a new deal (be interesting to see if there's any non-promotion release clauses in there) and DW highlighted keeping him as one of his main aims.

But what do people actually think he will do next season? When ive seen him its been a bit hit and miss, i dont thinks he's as pacey as people make out, but clearly has an eye for goal.

Can we rely on him as our main man upfront?

Do we need some more experienced heads upfront?

Slew has a hell of a lot to prove this season after the fun and games of contract discussion.

I hope he proves me wrong and gets in the goals, but I still think he is raw and is an impact player for us this year.

Yes, he could be answer if the question is 'what type of strikers do sides in the bottom half of the third tier possess?' Not that a struggle next term will be down to Jordan of course. Looks like he has somat about him and I'm looking forward to seeing if he can make it.

If and when he gets his chance in the first team, he has to grab it. If he does, he could be in for a good season and I can see him improving with each month of the season.

However, if he doesn't hit the ground running, then I see him ending up on the bench, his career stalling and another disappointing season, like so many of our players, lies ahead

For me, he's an ok player that a some fans have made a massive fuss over.
I'd have personally said if an offer comes in at a million, to accept it.

He's very naive, doesn't anticpate much, very lightweight, doesn't have a clue what he is doing when running with the ball.

But he is still young and learning and think he can do 'ok' for us, but not as our main striker.
He does seem to have an eye for a goal when he is given a decent opportunity.

I am not sure he will be first choice we will have to see, can't see him getting 15-20 off the bench.

Couldnt agree more with both of the above. Far to much seems to be being made of him IMO at the moment, fingers crossed he does turn out to be the messiah, not holding me breath though.

i think as the season goes on he'll improve no end.and will surprise a few people.

Only if the question is "What did Saint George do to the dragon?".
Otherwise, the answer is "No, but he's a very promising, home-grown youngster who can make a good contribution."
20-30 appearances and 10 goals should be his target this season. The bar shouldn't be set too high for him.

He looked a class above the rest of our youth players in the home leg V Man U Youth but I'm not sure he's going to stand out so much at senior level.

He reminds me a bit of Steve Kabba in his movement and technique. It remains to be seen whether that will be the red hot Kabba in his purple patch or the shite Kabba that went off the boil big time just before leaving for Watford.

I can see him getting 8 or 9 goals this season if he plays quite regularly.

Jonathan Forte anyone?

I think in desperate times we are pinning our hopes on a young, raw talent.

I also think a year in the reserves this coming season would have done him the world of good. But now, because we are so shit, we are hoping he's the next Agana.

From what I've seen he needs experience and to grow more.

I reckon he'll get knocked about a bit in this division and when he does he'll push out wide, perhaps turning supplier or perhaps just getting in the way out there.

He needs to play off the front man, because lets face it, we WILL be going long as I don't think we have the creativity or patience (yet) to keep the ball on the deck.

What we need is another Stuart McCall

Couldn't agree more Swiss, a Stuart McCall type has been needed since the fella hung up his boots, one of my cult heroes.
Hopefully this McDonald lad can sort out the attitude and we might have a good passing player there.

Can't see him being prolific. Have a feeling he'll get knocked around a fair bit.

I'll have a guess at around 10 goals.

If we'd stayed up and were playing Championship football this coming season Slew would've been on the bench at best and would've signed a new contract very quickly. As we went down without so much as a wimper Slew will play a major part, especially as we've fought to keep him but I see him as better used as a sub, coming on to stretch games and ignite a bit of pace when we need it.

Slew has potential, but there's still a long way to go and he's been far over hyped. I've got higher hopes for Philliskirk/Tonne at the moment personally.

Slew has got huge potential and has shown in his limited first team opportunities that he has excellent natural goalscoring instincts. However, I would agree that he still to prove that he can deliver the goods week in, week out at First Team level yet.

That said his performance in the First Leg of the Youth Cup Final was absolutely outstanding and he displayed an all-round quality to his play that I think he's still to fully demonstrate as a senior.

He's obviously one of the elite strikers for his age in the country, the key will be whether he can continue to improve.

As regards the contract shenanigans, is he greedy or is he ambitious? I suppose we will start realising the answer in 9 days time.

All depends on if he starts regular and who partners him up front. He at least should be hungry to prove himself and bust a gut, much more than some of the recent overpaid shite that could't hit a cows arse with a banjo

He will get lumps kicked out of him at this level. Mind you, this is the level we used to loan youngsters out to, so it will depend on whether Wilson or whoever replaces him in a couple of months ;) rates him.

Could be part of the answer but it depends what the question is.

I'm not expecting too much from him straight away but he does need to make his mark.

I expect he will, I think he has it in him.

He obviously can finish and finish emphatically (see winning goal v Bristol at home) I really dont think hes fast, not slow but I wouldnt say he exactly has pace to burn.

At the end of the day, he's a young kid learning the game and but for the furore over the youth team's form last season and his contract shenanigans, he would probably only have been looked at as a potential squad player this season. I just hope he's given time and it's not too much too soon for him.

I reckon it'll be a Porter / Cressy combo a week tomorrow and I can see Slew being used as a super-sub initially. Philliskirk could well be ahead of him in terms of starting at this stage.

Problem with that Fleets is when he wants parity with the likes of Lowton. If he is demanding that kind of money then the expectation should be a regular starter, playing at a consistent level.

Slew will be starting before August is out, given Porter's injury history and reported general lack of fitness.

the answer is complex

we still it seems have chud

hes been promising to score , perhaps a drop in opposition class might do the trick
Cresswell , on last seasons "form" will leave us wanting , but then again hes up against lesser opponents , but a year nearer retiring

Slew looked good at times , but when is the right time to blood kids, is it now , who knows
Philliskirk , I get excited about him , If he can getr near his dads ability woo hoo
Porter, came after not being used much , will need pre season to get match fit , but will supply goals when he is

at least theres options

True, and you wonder what assurances he was given during the many 'negotiations'. He may well be in the plans and if he hits the ground running goals wise then all well and good, the concern would be the knock-on effects if he doesn't.

did I say fall I meant go down after a hefty challenge
