Is Sharpy gonna be the new Peschisolido

There are so many aspects to Billy Sharps game where is distinctly average, he isn't pacey, isn't commanding in the air, his first touch isn't great, and his link up play isn't the best either. In a game when he doesn't score, he doesn't stand out at all.

However what Billy Sharp is absolutely outstanding at is finding that little pocket of space in the box and finishing. It is a knack that all genuine poachers have, and is the reason that he has scored as many goals as he has, and at 32 years of age he has honed that skill down to a tee. Other fans hate him as he is the player who always scores against them, but he does that to most teams. In terms of his playing style, the nearest thing to him is a Gary Lineker or Kevin Phillips. He is a classic poacher and out and out goal scorer and I can see him going on for another 2 or 3 years at least, as his game is built on physical attributes or pace.

Spot on. His style of play always reminds me of Mr. Gary Line-acre.

Anyway, if Roy of the Rovers is still playing, and playing well, what's to stop Billy of the Blades?

what the fuck does Billy Sharp have to do, to not be knocked, as others have said on here, his game does have limitations, but for Christ's sake he is our captain and bleeds red and white, he embodies the Wilder way of things, and although not the top scorer in the league the below speaks volumes compared to the other top scorers in the league, but nah you are right better put him out to pasture on the bench, to hobble on now and again for us to get all bladey blades about him -

Calm down lads.

The OP is obviously so ridiculously over the top, it is Tyler Durden posting under an assumed name, so he can respond with one of his
"See I told you, they all hate Billy except me" posts.

No sensible Blade who has seen Billy's contributions since August 2015 could possibly post that, so clearly, Tyler, Pig or troll.

Good OP. Certainly more thought provoking and mature than the 'Please don't play Lundstram...' type posts.

I don't think Billy could be the new Pesch. Completely different type of player.

There may be people uncomfortable about dealing with issues like this but I'll tell you Chris Wilder, Alan Knill and the other staff will be posing questions exactly like this.

Behave, away from home he has been limited this season. I've been to the riverside etc. and he has been non existent cos he cant hold the ball up or help us quickly break away on a counter. He is still going to be first choice at home for at least another season or so agreed, but does have his limitations.

I agree, fucking rubbish that Billy Sharp, get shot in January,we do not need a striker who scores goals

Uncomfortable about what? That a 32 year old player may eventually have to be replaced. I think everyones aware of that.

But given that he has the best goal ratio in the division so far and his goals have put us where we are now, some of us aren't particularly eager to send him to the glue factory at this moment.

Pig is my guess

Yeah, I thought so too, he seemed to be looking a couple of years down the line, which a few of our posters seem incapable of doing when it comes to Billy Sharp. He is getting on and sooner or later he will need replacing, along with a few others in that squad. Don't see much too controversial about that. In fact, carving out a Pesch type role for him when the inevitable day dawns is a good suggestion and a suitable reward for Billy for his endeavours over the past three seasons.

After the Leeds game our manager said " no disrespect to our skipper but it's Leon who leads the line".

There lies the point I think the O.P. is getting at in away games in particular. Sharp has been rested in two away games and we lost them both at Forest and QPR. I think that is a coincidence but it leaves the manager with a dilemma re pace and also playing Sharp three times a week when fixtures accumulate.

I guess he wants more pace up front in away games but every team needs that regular goalscorer to count on. Clarke is not quite as clinical as Sharp in front of goal and scores different types of goal in fact, as does Donaldson. Instinct for scoring positions, honed technique and ruthless focus in the opposition penalty area are rare attributes world over.

It's a squad game and let's recognise that if Sharp plays mainly from the bench we will have one hell of a goal fest in front of us if other strikers are keeping him out. Cole or a.n.other might just have that scoring touch and pace to boot.

Worthy O.P. and not as stupid as some of the reactions on the thread.

Six goals in ten starts, third in the league, club captain and beginning to create a good partnership with Clarke. Most fans of most clubs in the championship would snap him up but some of our fans want to bench him cause we lost one game where he didn't even fucking start.

Sorry you're talking bollocks not a good OP raises no real valid points as Browny and few others have said Billy's game is not based on pace so his age is irrelevant infact he's probably got smarter with age.

Not sure what some others may have said as I don't see them but I said it was a 'worthy O.P.' and it was because, like it or not, there is an issue in certain games.

Any O.P. does not have to be 100% correct in your or my opinion but it should serve the purpose of debate which in essence is the purpose of this forum.

Also any new member deserves encouragement and goodwill. Too many on here are so far up their own ****and their 'pals' *****' not to understand that point in this environment which after all is a membership of hundreds of United fans on the same side. They are too busy being smart and clever 'scoring points' to reflect on the need to encourage new members rather than humiliate them.

For the record I'll refer anybody to my last post on here so that nobody thinks I am not a fan of Sharp.

Got a point there Blanche.

This thread is so rediculous, it is Pythonesque. "What has Billy Sharp ever done for us?"

To be as good as Pesci he would need more imagination at throw-ins.

I'll get me coat........

Except nothing of the sort has been posted.

The O.P.'s first words were " Absolutely love Billy Sharp to bits..."

But,then goes on to slaughter him,our leading scorer this season, last season, season before that,he's garbage, get rid

Disagree but there we go.

The context of the O.P. was in the team of a 'top Championship club'.

We are currently a 'top Championship club' but the O.P. is in effect stating an opinion that we need a better main striker to stay up there. That is a point of view from a fan who ' loves Billy to bits". Not that outrageous or disloyal actually. Loads of fans on here keep saying we need at least one new striker come the JTW. That's their opinion too.

We need four effective strikers to see a promotion season through. If we sign Sharp's successor as first pick then we will have made a bold, big move. If we inject pace and mobility all the better. The new man might replace Clarke, who knows?

Surely a developing club seeking Premier League status has to constantly improve it's squad.

Absolutely love Billy, but sadly as the team keep progressing his uses and ability will become more limited. Theres no doubt about it, give him a chance in the box and more often than not he will slot it away and always put in a shift in for us. Just looking at his age and he's nearly 32, do you reckon he might become even more of a cult hero being that go to player of the bench for the last 15 mins when we are desperate for a goal and pushing everything forward?! Can't seem him being first choice as first team striker as a top championship club sadly so hope he becomes and savours this new role?! Please smack me back in my box if i'm talking bollocks!
Entirely possible you are bang on with this.

But.

Until such time that we aquire a CF with better all round attributes than Sharp, he remains the key player in our offensive set up.

Cue the inevitable “Clarke is better and more important” diatribe !

Fair points raised, decent post and in the right section. Don't let people put you off sharing your thoughts.

For me, start Billy while he's still making a big impact. Withdraw him if he stops doing what the team needs.

I actually bumped into billy yesterday and asked him about this thread. He said oh my god oh my god I'm nothing like him
