Is our transfer inactivity beginning to worry anyone?

I'm not worried. We have to accept its a unique market at the moment due to the pandemic. Championship clubs are teetering on the brink and do not have the financial security of EPL TV money so their prices at the start of the window will be grossly inflated. The window doesn't close for dealing with EFL Clubs until 16 October so there is the potential for a mad scramble and more realistic prices during that last week, some 6/7 weeks away.

Most EPL clubs seem to be dealing with the Championship in the right way for now going to a sensible ceiling on fees and not going above that. The exception seems to be Villa a club renowned for breaching EFL P and S regulations. I am pleased that we seem to be adopting the strategy of the majority during this early phase for incomings. Its a game of poker and whoever twitches first loses out. We need to hold our nerve.

I'm more concerned about us getting money in for outgoings. Nottingham press stating there is an option to buy Freeman at the end of his loan. You would hope that we have set a figure no lower than £5 mill with an uplift should Florist go up. Similarly if we are going to swop Robinson for Burke there has to be additional money coming our way if we value Robinson at £8 mill and they have Burke at 5.

Our first eleven when fully fit is a match for any team in this division so no concerns on my part about not getting in more players before the first game now we have a goalkeeper. The only slightly worrying aspects of pre season so far are the absences of Mcg and JOC two crucial players who need to be on the pitch against Wolves. Our conditioning team will have learnt some lessons from restart so hopefully the players will have not over trained and will be firing on all cylinders on 14 September provided we avoid injuries in the non event Internationals.

We can only evaluate whether CW has been provided with adequate funds to strengthen the squad on 17 October, the rest is speculation. It may be that we need to focus our efforts more on the foreign market in future but that in itself will have logistical problems if the virus continues through the season.

Yep ... we must be a soft touch re loans and fees we receive for our players... resigning hasbeens and no ambition re premium signings ... its a joke ... but I won't be laughing

Not really a glass half full person are you?

Don't panic, I'm sure a few versatile cover players with good attitudes will be along soon.

It's great news too because no other Premier League clubs will be interested in them, so we won't get gazumped by all those mental clubs that will stay in the Premier League long term

Wilder says business in will happen next week, trust the guy he knows what he's doing.

If you are the kind of person who likes to be at the front of the queue for boarding a flight where all the seats are pre allocated I can see why you might be worried.

We have this every year without fail. We’ll sign some players next week then the same people rather than hold their hands up and say they jumped the gun will be on to complaining we’ve not spent enough/spent too much/not looked to the foreign market/have brought in a foreigner that’s unproven in the Prem.

I’m still waiting to see the ones putting their hands up who spent years saying how McCabe was great for Utd and the Prince was gonna be terrible.

The way I see it is that it's the same first team squad as last season, the squad that was good enough to finish 9th which nobody would realistically have dreamed of a year ago, but with a slight downgrading of the goalkeeper. Add a quality quick striker as an upgrade on Moose and Sharp and it's not looking bad at all, is Brewster that man I don't know it's a gamble but I'd take him but the lack of signings so far is certainly not a reason for doom and gloom unless anybody realistically expects to be challenging for the top 6
That same squad needs tweaking as a priority we are in for a tough tough season

The only player we've lost that I'm disappointed about or we haven't replaced is Luke Freeman. Otherwise I don't think we're currently worse off apart from numbers wise incase we have an injury.

Lots of fringe/emergency players who don't normally have a sniff have gone, we've also shifted a load of loaners off the books like Heneghen who must have been on a fair few grand a week.
I really like the look of Freeman but his impact last season was minimal. 3 starts and 360 minutes played over 38 games means we won't miss him as long as Wilder can replace him with a player he trusts.

Mmmmmm......you really must try harder, which is, obviously, based on the premise that you know more than eagerly offering empty slogans or intellectual fluff dressed up as a serious idea.

If you've paid attention, as so many regulars on here have done, and which you've been conspicuous by your silence all the while Wilder took us to the upper levels of the Premier Division on relatively meagre amounts of money, should it need repeating. For you to mention 'has-beens' reveals an acute lack of what our manager has had to work with. Let's be clear, we do not have a wealthy owner, at least by Prem standards. We do not have the luxury of having an owner who will put their hand in their pocket and subsidise the acquisition of a highly valued player. To suggest that the club lacks ambition is naive and far removed from the knowledge that you'd think would be clear as day?

We're what we are, and the fact that we momentarily toyed with the idea of European football seems to have dropped like a lead weight and convinced a few, mostly younger supporters, that this would happen regularly. Take my word, it won't, at least not until the moment arrives when our infrastructure changes and we have genuinely aspirational and wealthy owners. Given that we've managed to arrive in the Prem and remain there, at least for another season, is a fantastic achievement. No matter what clueless drivel is posted, base your opinions on facts rather than uninformed ignorance.

Just to underline, I understand why posters such as yourself view money as the cure-all for a club's problems. Sadly that view is misguided. Key in this equation is the quality of manager that a club employs. Look at Aston Villa. They spent well over £100 million last season, yet they escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth. Perhaps you'd like to offer your view of as to why money didn't bring great success in their case? And perhaps you'd care to share your opinion as to why Chris Wilder, with a team littered with 'has-beens', gave our supporters a fantastic season to reflect on and consider what we'll be doing next. Europe? Nah, leave that for the fantasists, but a mid to upper place position in the Prem and you'll find most of us are well pleased with our progress.

Before replying take a deep breath and don't confirm your membership of the dullard's brigade.

Oreyt Kevin the teenager.

Bang on with your first sentence. We've definitely filled our quota of these for now.

We can only interchange one or maybe two of these for first teamers at one time before we become far less than we need to be in this league.

How the ferk did you find that pic of me.
In no way do I condone bouncing tits, Mark Duffy sorted that, I think I might have had a meal at one of crab industries, subsidiary restaurant's.....
I cannot possibly confirm or deny at this point in time.
You’ve been a hacked db, all over the internet

Agree with what's been said already , the team we had last season finished above halfway and where unlucky not to finish higher, and that's with some of our main players not hitting their best form,
So if we do sign new players, where and when are you going to play them ? .......... :tumbleweed:

Please tell me You are joking teams around us have strengthened yet have we

It is me, a little. Not that the club are at fault, in anyway.

We seemingly set our stall out fairly early doors: Swift, Robinson, Cash - promising youngsters who can grow with us, grow in value and eventually become staples of our side. The right price, sizeable investment for our club, but still manageable financially.

Now, Robinson has gone elsewhere and Cash and Swift seem to have stalled. What worries me most is that we have never been a more enticing proposition to new players than we are now. Strong squad, media darlings, finished 9th, attractive football.

Sign these players now, and we continue to press on and improve. Fail to do so, or to sign improvements and we risk standing still or faltering. Any momentum last season bought us in the transfer market will be lost and we'll be at risk of being just as exciting an option for future signings as Burnley are...

Yes , we havent signed any players that improve our squad we've lost deano and replaced him

We've lost L Freman and look set to lose Lundstram makes absolutely no sense to let them both go at all they will need replacing and thats gonna take money out of our budget and both are great back up options

No big striker signing which is the position that were obviously crying out for heading into the season with 2 32+ strikers , moose who is injured more than hes fit and mcburnie

Fulham,Leeds,Villa all making good signings while it looks like we are deciding to stand still plus west ham/southampton who all looked 10x better after lockdown if we dont pull our finger out i can see a relegation battle this season

Jesus I'm really frightened now, no nails left, sleepless nights, nightmares during the odd five minutes I do drop off. Can't eat, drinking excessively, can't get a hard on ( mind you...).

Hope the Samaritans are working late.

You okay hun?

Was it Chickin -Lickin who ran around telling everybody that the sky was falling in and got them all killed ?
Don't panic until Christmas, by then we'll know for sure what we need..... 👍

I’m not unduly worried yet but we do need to strengthen before the season starts I think. We certainly can’t risk waiting until Xmas.

We had a great first season in the PL but I can’t see us keeping anywhere near the same number of clean sheets this coming season as teams know what to expect from us now and how to get at us (pace on the break). And so it’s crucial that we increase our attacking threat because I think we’ll need to score a lot more goals to get anywhere near the same number of points.

If we can only afford one big signing (which in itself is surprising and disappointing) I do think it should have been a striker. We need to improve our creativity too.

We need to continue with the ambition we showed in the transfer market last season. Hopefully things will look more positive by the end of the week.

List of players we are supposed to be positively interested in (some of you may be able to add to this ) and the figures being bandied about

Matty cash 15 m
Watkins 25 m
Swift 10 m
Nunez. 18 m
Burke 5 m
Brewster 15 m

we have to think we will get 136m from tv etc 20 m we spent in Jan on Berge 18 m on Ramsdale ,50m + on wages etc doesn't leave a lot for a transfer budget
just looking at an article about manure they will loose 5m for every home game behind closed doors so what's our figure 2m all this has to come from the tv monies ??
Not many clubs will make marquee signings (I know Chelsea but they didn't spend much due to the embargo and have a Russian billionaire)
No doubt some of you will shoot me down ( where's pinchy when you need him )

I think a lot of movement will be loans ? hopefully I hope the Retsos avenue hasn't gone

Keep the faith, we will be in a better position by the start of the season.

My main worry this season is will we be as lucky with injuries to our back three ? If we lose any of Bash,JOC or Egan its a significant downgrade. Id be a lot happier if we sign an upcoming or established centre back in the next coupe of weeks.

A fortnight until our first PL fixture and we’ve currently not strengthened at all. We’ve replaced a GK because our cover wasn’t up to PL standard. L Freeman sent out on loan and a couple of squad players released, so depth definitely isn’t a strong point.

As is stands we’re realistically 2 injuries away from a real struggle, if not Championship football. Even if signings are brought in next week, it’s leaving them a week to get up to speed with fitness and playing style which isn’t ideal.

However, if anyone’s gonna sort it, it’s CW. A lot can change in a few weeks, so we’ll have to wait and see.
