I just looked at the prize money for the FA cup and it is, in real terms, peanuts. Other than the cachet of actually winning something significant (which in my 73 years hasn't happened and will likeley never happen to us......... ) why bother.? Extra games in an already busy schedule, interfering with league position, risk of injuries. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see United win something significant, I know, I'm a bit of an Eyore but........

My friend - you are a supporter of 73 years. If anybody is going to be an FA cup lover with its history and heritage, it’s you and those in your age bracket. I feel as if as the years get smaller and smaller, those in say (0-10 years) bracket, they’ll never understand the FA Cup. Fortunately enough I was around during the days of replays/draws being made on 5live on a Monday afternoon. I was also around when Bradford did a job at Chelsea and little old Barnsley went to Anfield. The competition is very special to me, maybe not so to those that are older and saw Hereford beat Newcastle or Wimbledon beat Liverpool, but no one can take away the glamour and the magic of the worlds best knockout competition hands down…even if they put games on a Thursday evening

There's a chance we might sneak into the play offs this season, as well as a chance we might revert to Wrexham type performances and get relegated.

The most likely outcome is that we win a couple more than we lose and end up mid table. Given that likelihood, why wouldn't we try and punch above our weight and get to the latter stages again?

It will probably end with the proverbial 'day out' somewhere, with a big away following making for a cracking atmosphere which, for me, trumps mid table Championship fayre any day.

I’d take the FA Cup win than finishing 6-8th in the premier league

Plus it’s a European slot isn’t it?

If we are just talking money ... it's decent revenue from tickets, concessions etc, every time we play a game, and if we get to 5th round, QF, SF, that turns into plenty of money. Players don't tend to have 'appearance' bonuses in their contracts at our level anymore, so it's profitable to put on a game even without the prize money.

For a business that will lose millions every season, 'peanuts' are worthwhile

A supporter for 68 years, I guess I was about 5 when my dad took me to my first game. But still, 68 years and nothing other than snatching defeat from the jaws of victory....... Its the hope that kills you!

My Dad, who is 88 in February just said to me “I’ve been watching them 80 years and they’ve never done owt!”

I replied with “maybe it’s you?! Maybe you’re a jinx?” 🤣
Oops, did I say 57 years? It’s actually only 53 years…So really, I’ve got nowt to complain about.
