Is it Time To Drop Clarke?

The loan system has many pros & cons for all involved & we may be suffering from one of the cons.
One big reason owning clubs loan players out is to get game time. Whether it’s to get the fit, get them in form or get them in the shop window.
Man U - especially Mourinho - will be unlikely to do a deal that doesn’t specify game time for Wilson.
Wilson had bags of talent & looks like he could be what we need - but so far has been poor & might benefit from being dropped. Then again, he’s less likely to settle & find his form if he’s on the bench. Only Wilder knows what he HAS to do.

If this is true I will happily drive him back to man utd today , can't believe for a second Cw would take on a player on loan and say 'yeah sure I'll play him even when he is playing crap and strolling round the pitch like one of the thousands man utd rejects that are not good enough '

Although if he keeps starting / coming off the bench first even after ongoing crap performances I will worry !

154 minutes per goal and second top scorer in the league...not sure Clarke is the problem.

Billy is captain. Clarke when Billy’s not starting..personally I’m not a fan of strikers as captain but no one could really argue with Billy being captain..I’d like to see Stearman captain thecside but. It sure he’ll change mid-season unless both Billy and Clarke don’t start.

Clarke isn’t the problem, but we’ve changed the way we play, although first half against Villa we were back to the quality we know.

We tend to play higher for longer spells when we don’t score and sides are able to put men behind the ball. Not explained that very well but it means that Clarke gets crowded out and can’t get in behind teams (which happens more when the game is stretched)

We’re almost a victim of our success because teams know that we’ll attack them early, but if we don’t score early they are able to sit in and then hit us on the break.

Clarke isn’t the problem but then again we need to make sure that we change things around when they don’t work

Stears is the obvious choice for captain. His leadership qualities are conspicuous. He’ll have the job next season because Sharp won’t be playing much, if at all. Sharp is no more suitable a choice than Leon or any other striker.

As for Sharp’s ‘passion’ that some daft Bladey Blades claim equips him to be captain; can we see a bit of it in his performances please? Maybe joining in the game when he’s not scoring?

But Steargoat is rubbish, past it, a donkey. I was assured of that by several posters on here, yet you want to make him captain? Pah!

I think both do at the moment. The service has been poor, granted, but the work rate isn’t there currently. It’d be good to see Sharp and Donaldson.

I’m not sure why Clarke has been given the arm band either, he seems quite extroverted. Fleck or O’Connell, would be better choices if Sharp isn’t playing.
Introverted.

That chance he put over the bar shows to me he is lacking confidence?

He's going to get 2 weeks of now anyway, I would rest him against Leicester.

I thought he was extremely poor. Half-hearted challenges for the ball in the air and attempts to press their defenders and too busy complaining.

Having said all that he performs an important role up there. One which I don't think Wilson or Donaldson can really do next to Sharp. He seems to have lost confidence and to be going through a bad patch. I'd rest him for the cup.

Wilder obviously thinks if he keeps playing him he will come out of the poor run of form.

Just look at Billy today, he looked revitalise after a rest, they aren’t young strikers they need to be rotated in my opinion.

I think the return of Sharp could be what he’s been missing. Sharp does create a lot. The ball across the box was perfect. Also Clarke getting the nod on for Sharps first too

Well that’s one goal in close to 1000 minutes of continuous football.

On top of which are lacklustre performances and an uncanny ability to turn over possession at an alarming rate anytime he goes anywhere near the ball.

You know where I stand.

I'd like to see Holmes/Brookes playing off Sharp instead of Clarke, he is offering us nothing at the moment.

New contract syndrome seems to have kicked in.

The biggest thing for me is that Sharp would have been subbed on 60 minutes had he played at Clarke’s level today.

Wilder sees something in Clarke I clearly don’t see and it’s his opinion that matters.

I'm not sure if Clarke needs dropping, but he should have been subbed off in most recent games as his performances haven't been good enough. His immunity from being replaced denied us the chance of a win against Wednesday when the game was begging for Sharp, but Wilder's refusal to remove Clarke limits our options..

It was Clarke's harrassing of the defender that led to the ball breaking for Duffy for the first goal, I think.

I think it's unfair saying that the new contract is the reason for Clarkes drop in form. At no point has he looked lazy since then, he still chases and harasses everything, he just hasn't managed to play as well as before - It's simple poor form. But I guess we have to turn on someone?

No, drop Wilson first and give Billy a run. Need a bit of passion back in the side. We're looking like a team of steady eddies.
Well said Mr Jelly

Leon was very poor today and no doubt you'll be celebrating wildly. Very sad.

One of the worst performances I have ever seen by any blades player today. Offered nothing all game.

Was brilliant up until Christmas but needs a rest and putting on the bench.
