Is it time to bring Moore back?

Inexperience starting to show? Why? Because he was beaten by a very good finish once in the game?

The lad has played well and has made no significant mistakes in any of the games. He deserves to keep the shirt. This comes from a very big Simon Moore fan.

What a talented young player needs is encouragement and to be trusted with responsibility, not to be criticised for being less than perfect.

It's that kind of attitude that prevents good young homegrown players getting first team chances in this country.

Jamal doesn't deserve to lose his shirt and how'd Moore react to being thrown balls deep in to the derby?

Stick with Big Jam for now. Our conceding has been more down to the odd momentary lapse in defending.

Last season Moore was blamed on here for about half the goals we conceded and most of the comments made about Blackman were made about Moore.

Blackman was my MOTM at Bolton, commanded his area and coming for high balls that Moore would not have. Got everything (eventually in one case). Moore was an improvement on a destroyed kid, but Blackman has something extra.

You saw that different to me mate. Blackman dropped several of those high crosses ( I counted three or four) and luckily caught them at a second attempt. I'm not saying he didn't do well, he did. But at 6' 5" he should be able to do well at catching high balls - he's got a real advantage there. Other parts of his game are not so great. His kicking for example. I mean, if he's kicking out of his hands the bloke can't keep the bloody thing on the pitch most of the time. His ability to get down quick for low shots is also very poor imo. I think he should have at least have got a hand on that low shot v Norwich. He somehow dove and got nowhere near it. But whether you agree with these observations or not, the one thing that concerns me above all is the fact he seems very unsure of himself. A bit of a ditherer. And I've seen a goalkeeper playing in a Sheffield derby before who was a bit of a ditherer. Strangely enough he was also one that we'd got from Chelsea. This guy:

and we all know how that ended!

If Moore is fit, play him. Always play your best and most experienced players when you're in a high tension derby game like this.

NEVER EVER SULLY THIS BOARD WITH THIS PHOTO AGAIN. THE STUFF OF DERBY NIGHTMARES.

We signed him from QPR. Why bring him up when talking about Blackman? Pathetic!

Herein lies the problem. Why are we doing Chelsea's job for them in bringing along one their homegrown players at the expense of our own goalkeeper. Nothing against Blackman, but he's a loanee with no prospect at the Lane beyond the end of this season.

I see your point. But I suppose it depends on how much of his wages we are paying? If the answer is "not much" then it's a good deal as he is a decent keeper and we could possibly use the budget elsewhere.

Yep. For me he's an upgrade on Moore and if we're getting him for next to nowt - then that's the trade off.

Didn't Watford get promoted a few years back by adopting this policy throughout their entire squad?

Pretty much IIRC

I don't think it's as uncomplicated as you describe. The agreement between SUFC and Chelsea has mutuality threaded throughout. Yes, Chelsea get the chance to give one of their players the chance to play in the rough and tough of a real league game, thus learning in ways they'd otherwise avoid. What we get is a player on loan from one of Europe's top teams who has helped us in an hour of need. To suggest that we simplify this down to benefiting the club who loan the player misses the point.

To have a healthy relationship with a club like Chelsea can only be beneficial where future loans are required. It would be unbusinesslike to drop a player simply because they were on loan. I'm sure Moore understands this, and it'll certainly push him to maintain his focus when the chance comes his way to regain his first team place. Players should play on merit, simple as. Reversing this, I'm sure the same applies to any of our players who are on loan at other clubs. We'd be puzzled/annoyed to learn that our player, who had been playing impressively, had been dropped merely to accommodate the home player.

I must say I don't understand Jamal Blackman. He has a really strange nonchalant style that makes him almost seem disinterested and has so many qualities that to me in my (admittedly limited) time as a keeper would be detrimental. He isn't as vocal as I expect a keeper to be, he comes out late on one on ones and when corners come he occasionally flaps in a way that reminds me of Simonsen and Howard.

For some bizarre reason though he gets to the ball , the back line has looked solid and he has made some good saves in the process.

Does anyone else feel the same? I mean all of this in the most complimentary way of course. In my opinion it's his shirt to lose.

Looking at TC without the ball he looked a disinterested figure on the field but he did a lot of magical things. Prosinecki was the same when he played for Portsmouth at the Lane

Totally agree with the above. In no way do I meant as a slight on the lad, some players seem to just have that ability to look nonplussed but still do a job. The other one that springs to mind for me is McGrath. At times it seemed like he'd just stroll off in a random direction but then all of a sudden the ball just comes to him. It was bloody fascinating at times!

A Sheffield derby as Moore's first game back?

Not for me. There's still questions about Blackman's game, but at least he's been playing regularly. And well enough to have earned the shirt, too.

Chucking a player back into the mix when he's been out for so long, in this kind of game, doesn't really sit well with me.

Unless Sir Wilder seems it necessary, of course :D

I think Jamal has done a grand job so far but last Saturday I got the feeling his inexperience is beginning to show.
Grate with high balls but some very poor judgements in other areas including the goal, so for me if Moore is fit I think it's time to bring him back....
no sorry.. now is 'not' the time to start dicking around with the team
