Did he bollocks!

He was never 'direct' about falling out with Collins who always had mysterious niggles that stopped him being in the squad. At that point Collins had moved all his kit in with the Under 18s and was exiled from the pros.

He also lied about the fall out with Butler, hardly 'direct'.

His press work was bizarre. The Butler and Collins examples I'd pretty much forgotten but constantly calling out McNulty was reminiscent of Blackwell's pettiness.

This is exactly what i mean... why should we care about players like Collins, he wasn't in the side, no further questions. Not our business. What is the obsession with spats and fall outs? As i said in my post, when asked about football he was direct with his responses

With Collins,go back through the archives, he was dropped after we lost 5-3 at Swindon. Clough said after that when asked, that he basically questioned the players for not doing what they'd been asked and what they'd done in training... Collins took exception to it.

When asked about him a few days/ weeks later, he said to ask collins

With Butler, he just said that it hadn't worked out as they'd planned, so he was going on loan, towards the end of the loan, he was asked if he was coming back, he said no, thats unlikely.

He has inherited a squad as you say, but its one which he gave clean slates to instead of shipping out many of them. He’s not to blame for them being here when he arrived, but he’s got to take responsibility for many of them still being here and many being very comfortable, when in reality they all need to be concerned for their contracts.

.

How can you say they are comfortable? He’s got rid of Alcock, McNulty and James Wallace. It’s perfectly clear he’s looking to move on Higdon, Scougall and Kennedy. McFadzean’s also out on loan. He’s also lost Murphy.

The clean slate card gets thrown at him a lot but it was entirely necessary in order not to alienate the dressing room. He believes in giving players the most positive environment for them to shine. Too many haven’t responded to that yet but the recent improvement in Coutts is a sign of what it can achieve. Hopefully he’s bring in more players that will respond well to his methods.

Those players have contracts that we are obligated to pay. He only becomes responsible for them still being here if he extends their contracts. He’s made it very clear he wants to trim the squad to make room for incoming recruitment.

I do agree with you about the lack of pace within the players he’s recruited though. I hope that’s something he addresses when the decks are cleared. We need some pace down the left side either at LB, LM or both. It would also be great if we could find a big, strong, pacey forward to partner Sharp. Sammon is quite quick for a big man but has obvious weaknesses in his game that have been done to death.

Suuuuuuumoooooooo

How would we know who'd won Fatty? I'm Fatticus!

I think we most will remember how we felt after the Swindon game, I'm pretty sure there was a unanimous agreement on the first priority position needing to be filled with 2 bodies at the minimum. .

Collins and Edgar. There you go.

Sharp was entirely down to Adkins, not the support. In fact, the support have been quite divided on whether he should have been signed (many championing McNulty and Done as better players). I’d say Adkins has been vindicated by Sharp’s performance so far.

When talking about the need for him to act in the summer. Can you tell me one manager that has been appointed in June and carried out a major cull of the squad by August? And whilst bemoaning this delay, you want to change managers again so the new man can spend the JTW assessing what he has, not get the business done that needs to be done and delay us further? It’s fickle, knownowt fans like you that have led football to the managerial circus it has become with your “thcweam and thcweam until I’m sick” attitude as soon as immediate success doesn’t appear. I bet you were calling for Clough out after the Crewe away game in 2014 then thought he was the best thing since sliced bread by the end of the season only to scream for him out again a few weeks into last season.

He would have sold his imaginary season ticket at Crewe and bought it back again in his head by season's end.

He will last longer that that piggy twat CARLOS Carvalhal that's for sure, so don't really see what the problem is.

UTB & FTP - that's Fuck The Pigs btw
Oi. don't take my name in vain. I've had it about as long as the 2 bob mouriniho.

Bryan Robson took some beating. His interviews were like a verbal anesthetic.

I think the reason why people were so miffed about Collins was that of all the 15 players Clough signed, he only brought in one centre half (despite a desperate need for at least one) and then fell out with him immediately. Then jettisoned Collins.

What? I was talking about Edgar.

I don't care about anyone else, i'm sure there's been mass clear outs at many clubs.

I'm also sure there haven't been too many clubs with our size squad in this division, so naturally there wouldn't be as many in our situation. It needed doing and it hasn't been done.

Name one.

I don't tend to keep a mental note of things like that, strange that. Are you saying no other teams have ever had clear outs?

There's a surprise.

In the time frame Adkins had, I highly doubt it.

Unless you can prove otherwise?

I'm saying very few managers, if any, carry out a mass cull before a competitive ball has been kicked under their reign. And there are very good reasons for that.

Of course you can argue with his CV, if it weren't for some of the players they already had waiting in the academy at the time, there's an extremely good case to say they wouldn't have had such success. Any success at Scunthorpe is outweighed by a combined failure at Reading and an even bigger one here thus far.

Bobbins alert!

Suddenly his achievements at Scunthorpe and Southampton aren't as impressive because he had good players. I've got news for you mate and it may come as a shock but a manager will achieve nothing without good players. It's a simple formula, good players + good manager = relative success. You can get by with a mediocre version of the latter but you sure as shit can't get by with a mediocre version of the former as our club has consistently found out.

The assertion that his achievements at Scunthorpe are any less worthy of credit because of a mid table performance at Reading is equally ridiculous.

I realise you're probably just on the wind up but it's fun to chat :D

In Adkins' first full season at Reading they just missed out on the Championship play-offs. After that it went a bit pear-shaped - the club were flirting with administration most of the time whilst the potential Thai owners made up their minds.

The things that worry me about Adkins are:
(i) The constant tinkering with personnel and formation - it shouldn't take until mid-March to know what your best XI is.
(ii) He doesn't seem to have learned from several defeats where we've been out-run & out-fought in midfield - it looks like next season's midfield will be built around Hammond & Coutts.

This week Adkins will mostly be reading...

I go for all this if he is successful . If we fail what is Adkins actually reading - Beano / Dandy . Show the books to the public with the statement ---- look this helped me to get SUFC promoted . Exceptional leadership and performance , we have done fuck all ,up to press.

This bloke doesn't half line himself up IMO .

Good job we love and respect him.

UTB

Not really followed Nigel Adkins career very closely. You can't argue with his CV but what are his real strengths. Is he renowned for being a tactical genius or an inspirational motivator. Not really seen much of either this season.
Thankfully he doesn't walk round with a clipboard under his arm like that big daft twat at old trafford. But his excessively positive post match assessments do not reflect what has just happened on the field. Sorry to say it Nige but your recent interviews have had a smell of desperation about them.
Maybe it's time to get the geese dvd out again.

You know you've posted a good one when Barney is the only one to like it.

The original McBlade has been around for many years. Of good Handsworth stock. Well known without going on a forum as well.

He also commented on fitness levels taking time. Eight/Nine months?
