Is it really an advantage us playing before Leeds?

If we win it’ll put massive pressure on Leeds as we’ll still be 2nd no matter what Leeds do bar a 9-0 win. Their next game is also against the best championship team at the moment.

Think it is an advantage regardless of what you do.

There is no way our players wont know what happened with you and Hull tomorrow before kickoff, in this day and age they will find out somehow, someone will tell them.

And that will make the need to win even more urgent, if you win they have to win because they will know we need to keep pace. If you draw or lose they will know that a win will give them an advantage which adds even more pressure to an already high pressure situation.

A lot of footballers and ex players talk about preferring to play first so there must be something in it psychologically.

Got to say mate, the fact that you've been so well mannered and civil has endeared you to many of us.

Of course I want the Blades to achieve promotion, just as I know you'll want your guys to do the same, but whatever happens it's been a plus having you visit us from time to time, take care fella.

I would guess that there must be a difference, hence the last match of the season sees all the teams kicking off at the same time?
Think it is down to the outlook of each individual.

Personally I would prefer to play first, expecting your rival to win and so giving it 110%. Your rivals will feel pressure to match a positive result or have to resist the temptation to take the foot of the pedal when faced with a negative result.

It's only an advantage if we win, it then puts pressure on Leeds to win.
If we draw or lose then its an advantage to Leeds, they then know that a win could put them 3 or 2 point in front with 2 games to play, but equally a draw or defeat is not the end of the world.

Completely depends on the result in the earlier game. I don’t think it’s fair to either team to be honest. They should kick off at the same time for the sake of the competition, rather than creating such concerns of the sake of television coverage.

In any event, we just have to go out there and do our bit. Win!

Ah cheers man.

I don't think opposition fans have to shout and swear at each other for the sake of it, most of us are adults and should conduct ourselves like them.

I think its interesting to talk to opposition fans tbf, makes a change from your own team and saying the same thing to each other over and over again.

That being said of course like you do us I'm sure, i hope you lose all your remaining games and we win :D.

Not personal but politeness aside that's how it is now for us both and i wish Sheffield United all the worst luck in the world for the next 3 games (dont mind if you win the playoffs of course).

Take care :)

its like in tennis serving 1st only an advantage if you do your job. really they are pros & cons depending what happens in 1st game

In cricketing terms there is no scoreboard pressure if you play first.

Certainly we win, then psychology it isn't going to help Leeds because they know nothing less than a win will do.

That said, I don't know how it changes approach. At this stage, it's all about getting a win. Any team bot going for a win is unthinkable.

It can be an advantage going second. If we have lost against Hull and Leeds are drawing maybe they would consider not throwing the kitchen sink at it as a draw would do to an extent.

Either way, doing anything other than playing for a win is a dangerous game and during 90 mins I'd expect players to be focused on the game at hand.

It is good the last game being played at the same time thought. I think that makes sense.

True I’m just asking the question after Dean Ashton on Quest and Neil Redfaern amongst others, are claiming the fixture schedule has given us an unfair advantage.

Nobody knows for sure but - if I was CW and our team - I wouldn't need any more motivation than Quest's usual 'The Whole World Loves Leeds And Wants Them To Go Up Where They Rightfully Belong' Show. Similar to BBC's 'Breakfast' yesterday morning. Mike Bushell (who occasionally mentions football when he's not droning on about 'extreme sports' like bog-snorkelling and underwater table-tennis) had action from Leeds and Norwich and said as an afterthought 'Oh, and Sheffield United beat Nottingham Forest to go second.' Biased cunts but nothing compared to what we'll get with Lineker and Danny Fucking Murphy if we go up.

Which would be madness. If we lose at Hull and Leeds win at Brentford, next Saturday we've got Ipshit at home and Leeds face Villa. Going for anything other than 3 points at this stage of the season is nuts.

It all depends on the individuals ability to handle pressure.

If you can handle pressure then going second is the advantage,
you know what’s required and are single minded/ focussed enough to achieve that goal BUT most people don’t like pressure and for them it usually it has a negative effect on performance. So for most people going first is a slight advantage.

However these are trained professionals performing every week under pressure, so it may not make any difference.

Because in my view it’s a load of bollox saying it’s unfair us playing first, giving us the advantage as it allows us to put the pressure on them.

They’ll know exactly what they have to do the next two games, even whether to sit on a narrow lead or go for more goals if it looks like goal difference will be a factor.

They’ll know whether a draw would be a decent result and they’ll know whether it isn’t, whether to push on for the win or see the game out.

Sorry but for me it’s Leeds who have the advantage, not us.

Agree with you FF , the advantage is with the team following they know the result they need

We both have to win 3 games.

Then Leeds have to win one of theirs by 7 clear goals to stop us going up.

I say again and will keep saying: We will not need three wins. How many games this season have daft, self-indulgent people on here termed ‘must win’ in the last three months, trying to evoke pressure and panic but in fact evidencing they have no understanding of the game whatsoever? You count the points after 46 games.

On a practical level, it will materially affect how much Dirty Corrupt Leeds feel they have to put in the brown envelope to be sent to the Brentford dressing room.

If it was worse to play second then the second playoff game would be away. It gives the second team a chance to adjust tactics the first team have to win everytime.

My view is that we should be beating Hull and Ipswich, whether we get promoted or not.

We are better than them so we should act like it and win. Leeds are then irrelevant really. Win all three and they’re not overtaking us are they.

We have the opportunity to crank up the pressure if we win tomorrow but that puts pressure on us a draw tomorrow may well be a good result the thing is we don't know so have to take risks and go for a win. Leeds will know exactly what they have to do anything less than needing to win is a massive boost for them as the have some control on how they have to play.
If there was no advantage either way why do the last games of the season all HAVE TO kick off at the same time? It only becomes an advantage to us if we beat Hull anything else is advantage to Leeds.

Very good point Selby.

Ashton? imagine my shock
we didn’t set the schedule it was tv .. if Leeds weren’t so massive then maybe they’d put other clubs on instead.. victims of their own massive ness
if we can’t beat the likes of two mid table outfits and the bottom team we don’t deserve it

They could accumulate the necessary number of goals over three games if you think about it......

Crap

Right now, I'd absolutely say it is an advantage.

Leeds really can't afford to drop points this evening...
Never mind the +9 goal difference!!!. Weeds have to win well tonight. At least 4-0 to put the pressure back on us?.
Really don’t see that happening. IMHO. ⚔️⚔️. UTB

A few weeks ago we played first. I don't recall Leeds fans and more importantly these wanker pundits saying that was unfair to Blades

Fk em

You're either good enough, or you aint

COME ON BRENTFORD!
