For me, I’d been feeling a bit flat of late and I’d not paid too much attention to this place or any football coverage.

I’ve been racked off at the recent results against Brentford, Cardiff & Barnsley, where we’d created shedloads of chances and effectively missed out on 7 points.

Of course, ideally, we’d have those 7 points already. However, tonight’s result and looking at the fixtures coming up has left me feeling like this is still all very much in our hands. On the one hand now, the Barnsley defeat has totally taken the pressure off and we don’t expect a playoff place. On the other hand, we have Millwall, Preston and Bristol to play and could make a real opportunity for ourselves.

Ideally, we’d have the 7 points, of course. But now, I wonder whether we have a situation where we have all of the opportunity, none of the pressure?

UTB, great result tonight.

theres 4 games of the season to go , we are up there with a chance

beat Millwall saturday and it all gets very very tight, might still be 9th saturday night but it will go to the last kick at bristol

lets enjoy the ride for once
we moaned for 6 years about the dullness of league one
surely we can allow ourselves to smile a bit that we are involved 90 per cent or more into the season

we could be on the brink of our best ever surprise finish

We need to improve our goal difference for it to be in our hands. Beating Millwall 4-0 would be a start

If we win all our remaining games we still only finish with 77 points - a couple too few I reckon.

UTB !

Have a look who the following teams have left to plays:

Boro
Milwall
Derby

It's 1000% in our hands, we win on Saturday and I would put money on either us or Bristol Coty getting 6th spot based on the remaining fixtures of everyone else.

It was in our hands but we threw it away.

Now we have to expect everyone to falter around us.

Was all about the result tonight as it will be in the next four games over performance, been too many of the latter this season and we’ve come out with empty pockets .

A battling performance ,a few nerves in there as you’d expect at this stage at the season , opposition were always gonna go for it and fair play to Pulis his changes tightened up their midfield and made it that the only way we were gonna get the extra man over on them was one of the 3 centre halves carrying the ball to make them commit , similar to Cardiff again their direct &get the ball in the box at every opportunity & typical Pulis set play team.

We need to work on defending balls into the box & second ball better as were conceding more than a few of these and Millwall will definitely give the centre halves a work out on Sat .

Ultimately job done tonight , well done lads , great effort & battling performance give us the same on Sat and see what that gets us .

All depends on millwall game, win & we are level. Lose, we are 6pts behind

By my calculations we'd need one favour from somewhere. Boro play Milwall second to last game but unless it finishes as a draw either of them can still finish above us by 1 point/goal difference respectively by winning their other games (excluding Millwall this Saturday of course).

Millwall are on a fantastic run. The last time they lost was New Year's Day. Won't be an easy game.

Three teams above us so no it is not in our hands we have to aim to win our remaining games and hope those teams above drop points somewhere, a win over Millwall would be a good start.

I don't think we'll win all four remaining games, but I still think we've every chance of making the play-offs, on less than 77 points.

It is all down to us really. 3 out of 4 remaining games against play-off rivals - that's the key thing about our remaining fixtures. Win 3 out of those 4 and we're in.

Just about.

The problem with our recent form is that we really needed to win a couple to give us a slight cushion. For weeks we've been saying 'we're only 2/3 points off it's in our hands', but that means one bad weekend of results and suddenly you're 5/6 pts off and completely out of it.
We really can't afford any mistakes from now on, and likely need to win almost every game to be sure of a p/o spot. Millwall can afford to lose on saturday and still be in with a chance, which is not the case for us.
To suddenly be relying on (almost) perfection at this point of the season is a big ask. I'd like to say we can do it but have my doubts. Honestly though it's nice to have an exciting end to the season, even if it's excruciating at times.

The only question I still have is that we seem to always be the nearly men, with the exception of last season. I really do think in our current situation that it's almost inevitable we will once again end up this way, finishing 7th/8th and just a couple of points off, asking ourselves what if and once again cursing our luck. The truth is it's fantastic we're in this situation to start off with, but it won't feel like that when the final whistle goes at Bristol City if we haven't made it.

But it's not like it's a better option to simply give up and avoid the pain of narrowly missing out. We absolutely have to give everything and try. It's just slightly sad to me that this year may well be another one chalked up with so many other seasons where we almost made it. I really hope i'm wrong but a sober look at our form and the table would tell you that's where we're headed.

We still might not get into the play offs if we will all the remaining games. If Boro win all their 4 games and Derby win 4 of their 6 games then we finish in 7th place

Nice balanced and honest post that mate. If ever there was a time to hit form though...

Think of those performances (and not the chuffing infuriating results) against Brentford, Cardiff & Barnsley and thinking "surely this has to fall for us soon"...well, could it?

Middlesborough won't win their remaining games. They might not lose any of them, but they certainly won't beat Bristol (H), Derby (A) & Millwall (H). There'll be at least one draw in those three. If, and it's a big if, we can win our last 4 games we'll get 6th. I'd love it going down to us v Bristol, last game of the season to see who claims the last play off spot. Pay back for 87/88.

Got to give a big respect to Millwall, almost a stealth like climb into the play-offs.
It is without any doubt for us a must win game, should be a cracker, wish I could be there.
