So continuing on from the previous defunct thread and looking at the business we have done in the transfer window how do people feel about it?

Keepers: Bunn/Kenny/Bennett

RB: Walker, Geary,

CB: Morgan, Nosworthy, Seip, Fortune

LB: Kalio, Naysmith, Taylor

C Midfield: France, Monty, Harper, Williamson

R Midfield: Little, Ward, Yeates

L Midfield: Stewart, Quinn, Cresswell

Forwards: Ched, Hendo, Camara,

That looks to be quite a tidy squad and certainly comparable in terms of quality with our Play off final side.

So despite totally rebuilding the playoff final squad spending little money has Blackie assembled an arguably better squad than the one which finished last season?

Personally certainly in terms of technical ability this squad is superior, the question still remains will Blackie make use of this?

Bob stop poking that wasps nest with that stick

I think that's a cracking squad. I'm actually quite looking forward to the second half of the season now.

You stay the fuck off this thread, you are the reason the last one died ;)

Anyway I'll not take advise from the guy who keeps taking fish off Len.

No he isn't doing a remarkable job, unless you mean in terms of making a huge meal of it.

No, he won't make use of it and for as long as Monty and A N Other play in centre midfield we have no chance. If Willo plays majority of games (in the middle) things are slightly different but I really believe Monty holds us back.

No pace in midfield. No creativity in midfield and no muscle or height in midfield.

I'm very pleased with the signings today though - fair play. Good chance of keeping an interest in top 6 for rest of season.

Oh and Bob another thing off topic for this thread. How many did it say Boro brought in the Reading programme? Anyone got a figure to hand? You said 'no way was the away end half full' in response to comments that only 1,500 max paid on day to get in.

Time will tell Bob but that squad should be capable of securing a play-off spot given the position we're in now. I think the defence will take care of itself now so it's all about whether KB can find the right balance ahead of them. History tells us he can get us into the play-offs but can he mould a team capable of winning them ?

As I said last time, I think he has done a decent job given what's happened and rightly or wrongly, he will probably be judged by play-off success. A top 6 finish would be an achievement this season but I doubt whether that would be acceptable by a large majority.

I'm assuming you are talking central midfield not across the entire midfield.

No idea no got one to hand although I'm guessing you know the answer.

3000 capacity in the lower tier yeah I'm happy to say that less than 1,500 were in there.

Didn't you also say we wouldn't get 24,000 for Reading in the same thread?

I don't know the answer and no I didn't say that about Reading, nor make any other comment about Reading crowd - which was pretty decent.

I don't really count Cresswell as a midfielder. Ward is quick yes.

Just read back, you said we wouldn't average 25,000 against Reading without a ticket offer. you were right. But it wasn't really rocket science prediction 25,000 against Reading (who brought a minibus by the looks of it).

I don't think you commented on my believe that we'd get close to 30,000 on Saturday.

Apologies!!!! Forgot the offers bit.

Hopefully we will. 3k from Derby would be a help

In answer to your first question Bob, I'm very happy with the 2 signings that KB has just made.

Is the squad better than the one that finished the season last year? Personally I think yes. This is a point of contention and could be argued either way.

For me that squad is easily good enough to make the play offs. I'd be surprised now if even numpty Blackwell doesn't achieve a top 6 finish.

Depending on injuries, tactics and a bit of lucky I'd expect us to finish around 4th/5th. I think that Newcastle and West Brom are better than us, but none of the other teams have impressed me. Leicester, Forrest and Cardiff look decent at times and awful at others. The others (Swanseas, Preston etc) have not impressed me at all.

For your final question Bob, I think that KB is will certainly not make the best use of this squad. I have every confidence that King Kevin will not get the best out of this talented bunch of players. He'll continue to play people out of position (Ward, Quinn, Williamson etc) and continue with his 'hard work' rather than flair/creativity ethic. I think he'll do enough to get us a top 6 finish, but I don't expect him to get the best out of this team. Mainly because he'll fail to identify the best players and best tactics for the squad.

Well done for opening a can of worms agan Bob!? :D

And Boo, don't you go spoling everyone else's fun by getting the thread stopped!!!??? :p

Not a bad transfer deadline day.

CB and LB needed: we got both, prem players, should be solid at least at Champ level.

"I'd expect us to finish around 4th/5th"

"I think that KB will certainly not make the best use of this squad"

Those statements cannot be related. You expect us to finish 4th/5th (which in my opinion is a bit optimistic) and easily make the play-offs but if we do that then KB will certainly have got the best out of the squad.

Maybe expectations are too high but if we finish in the top 6 KB will have done an amazing job considering the injuries we've had, the wage bill he's slashed and the transfer money he's generated.

Compare our squad with Newcastle and West Brom and we're nowhere near them so top 6 is the height of what we could realistically expect to finish this season. (though everyone knows we wont win the play-offs regardless of manager. We're still Sheffield united after all!).

I've got faith in him to keep our progression this season going and to kick on to finish in the top 6 (injuries permitting), and these two signings have just re-affirmed this.

Who Me:eek: I didn't start the name calling or even join in Linz couldn't take the jokes. I understand that though she does a great job. but just to reasure you all

"Surprised if numpty blackwell doesn't achieve a top 6 finish??" Would you really be surprised Olle? because i wouldn't be surprised after saturday, we haven't beat any of the teams above us this season.

Funnily enough, I was thinking during the long Len fishing session on Sunday about Fortune, and how it was the indicator of terminal malaise about the club...'I wonder if he'll eat some humble pie if we sign a couple of decent defenders on Monday..?'.

Anyone got a decent recipe for Len..?

Anyway. Pleased with the signings. Unwards and upwards...

Not at all. The division is fucking ruibbish and we simply are not! Look at the squad above SE1. We now have a very solid team and competition for places in every position.

There are few better teams in the Championship. Newcastle and west Brom are better than us. I'll give you that. News flash though SE1, they are only 2 teams. I said we'd be 5th or 6th. None of the other squads are better. Forrest, Leicester, Cardiff, Preston, Swansea, Blackpool are all average (at best).

So I stand by my statement. A really good manager would have us in the top 4. A good tactician, who got the best out of our players and played to our strengths would have us chasing the top 2.

So I stand by my statement(s). Kevin Blackwell will not get the best out of this team, but will probably get us in the play offs.

If cheap as chips brings success to BDTBL i'll luv him.............. until then he can fook off !

It's hard to say really, what I will say though is, Bunn, Kalio, Seip, Walker and Nosworthy are not out players.

Bennett, Cresswell, Naysmith, Little and Geary won't be able to go on for much longer.

Monty and Harper are out of contract at the end of the season.

France, Stewart and Fortune are not good enough.

When he makes an appearance I'll include him ;)

Why is Nosworthy in your list then ;)

Because he ain't a keeper like Harber for example and he is likely to play.
