They've wanted shooting for a while. Wilder already seems to have been set up as the latest fall guy .

Give over. Yes most of the players we have had recently have had a attitude that stunk the place out and were quite rightly given the cold shoulder by the fans at the lap of shame after the scunnie game (pity Higgo and Collins had had already gone) but who brought this set of losers in to the club in the first place and who had them strolling around as if they didnt have a clue about what they were doing and showing a 'i couldnt give a toss attitude'? Clearly its the managers fault. Now we can all disagree about who is at fault most ...Weir...Clough...Adkins...the Board...but ultimately no one made the players fo out on to the pitch and stroll about like they were playing testimonials and not doing the basics of their jobs while they were being handsomely paid. The players bar the odd exception were a disgrace last season but it is the managers who brought em in and who should inspire them to better things.
The hard talking interviews are wearing thin already, fix it or do one
My heart sank a little when hearing the Bolton reports that Wilder wants us to be more direct and play off knock-downs etc. I like his no-nonsense approach in regards to interviews and the like; I think it's what the Club's been needing for years, I'm just a little concerned that the style of play may be a little too back-to-basics. Here's hoping I'm wrong. To be honest, I hate the attitude of 'don't take the easy way out and pass it sideways or backwards'. I just think that's such an outdated attitude to football.
I know blades fans are generally a fan of 'get ball, gerrit up there' but we don't live in the Bassett, or even Warnock, days. To me, what Wilder calls 'taking the easy way out', I would call 'rotating the ball, maintaining possession and passing and moving. Even I was taught as a child that you take one touch out of your feet, look up and play the ball to feet. You can't score without the ball, after all!
I dislike it because it's the reason Proper football/ footballers will seemingly never succeed here. Kevin McDonald, Leon Britton et al were all players that 'took the easy option' but look at where they are. Proper footballers, and you need them in your team to be successful. The game is much easier (and much less tiring) when you have possession for the majority of it.
When Wilder talks about getting it forward quickly, that just says to me he is incapable of building a proper football team that draws teams out exploits the gaps in behind. Instead, it will be percentage football and try to feed off what we can in and around the box.
For those wondering what's happened to Sharp, I think the explanation lies in this. Sharp's previous spells at the club were under Warnock and Blackwell. He has been successful everywhere else in FOOTBALLING teams. He doesn't suit kick-and-rush, never has, never will. So now, not only is our team fairly average, we seemingly won't even be playing to our biggest strength.

Think your right Swiss blade,Wilder has commented on the square and back passing which has become the norm for us ,he is determined to change thatI think in the 7 years i've been on this forum, i've said at the start of every season, lets see where we are in 10 games... Fair enough we've still been shite after 10 games, but i think to take a reaction after 1-3 games is always going to be knee-jerk, especially when one of those games in the JPT like last night.
I paid little to no interest in the game last night and i don't think its really a measure of where we will be later in the season. From what i have read from Saturdays game there were holes in the side, we lacked creativity, pace and we had no shots. Apparently last night we had some shots and looked ok in the first half, but we didn't close the game as well as tiring.
We've lost a lot of players and we've also brought a lot of new players in, so there will be a period of settling, naturally, as players find their feet in an evolving team. I'd take a guess that the side that starts this season will be a little different in 10 games time.
i think most of us said the same at the time.. i certainly did. we've had years of pass it sideways or back. it is going to take getting rid of all the players with that mentality to leaveI am starting to think every player before this regime, probably bar Sharp needs to go.
Not listened but the first two lines sound like something the previous manager use to say.
Taking the easy option in football is more about what you do without the ball. For far too long we've had players who hide and don't want the ball. Sideways and backwards passes are the symptoms; the disease is laziness.
Fleck looks like a step in the right direction but we desperately need someone to play alongside him and a winger who is prepared to take his man on.
Absolutely agree with all of that - but they didn't look very "inspired" last night :-(Give over. I see what you mean (save for Leon Britton, the World's most overrated footballer), but what Wilder is talking about, I think, is not hoofing it but actually being braver and attacking, rather than dithering.
In recent years our build up play has been ponderous. We never get to the byline. We never break and attack quickly.
Possession is important, but is useless if you never get within 20 yards of goal.
Exactly. He wants much more purpose with the passing in the final third and I think we can see it coming in patches. Some interchanges around the box were very good but we aren't finishing the final product.I see what you mean (save for Leon Britton, the World's most overrated footballer), but what Wilder is talking about, I think, is not hoofing it but actually being braver and attacking, rather than dithering.

Going on what i've read only, its certainly going to take a little time to adapt and i think whilst we will get a decent picture of how we're progressing after 10 games or so, it may take a lot longer until we start to see the benefits of the progression... Clean Sheets, big wins, run of wins etc.Think your right Swiss blade,Wilder has commented on the square and back passing which has become the norm for us ,he is determined to change that
either the players we have now or additions show more bravery when in possession.
Weir clough and Adkins favoured this slow build up which got us no where in the end. Those three managers never brought in the players to be successful
with that style.Chris is going to do it his way and it maybe we have a few players playing at present who can't cut it with this style.
This is where brave management comes in ,obviously with the support of the owners..lf certain players dont show the same kind of bravery! they will be gone as Wilder says. When saying bravery it's not about being bra e in the tackle ,it's about taking responsibly and being positive ( going forward ) it's going to be an interesting few weeks finding out who has got the bottle to take it on! There could be a few surprising exclusions ,as Wilder says no one
including his own signings are safe from the chop.
Me too mate. I'm one of very few who, while praying CW would be the answer, I've refused to get carried away given that I thought the last 2 managers would be and was kicked firmly in the bollocks by both those. In true pessimistic style, I'm waiting to be impressed. He made a good start with interviews in the summer and a couple of his signings appear good but I really don't think he understood what a horrendous attitude most of the players he inherited have. Now we'll see what he's made of and whether he really can drill his expectations in to them and get a reaction. Players not following instructions was used quite a lot last season.
This isn't a pop at the manager, just a wake up call to the many who appeared to get carried away with his appointment like I did last year. We're miles off IMO and he's no miracle worker.

Yes but the chances he talked about were real not imaginary as per our previous manager.
He certainly sounded frustrated, and who can blame him all he is asking is the players to move the ball quicker play on the front foot be positive, he's not asking them to split the atom, I watched the U12 and U15 in Ireland the other week and their coaches asked them to the same things and overall they seemed to grasp the tactics. What does that say about our first team squad.
They're either
A) ignorant bastards
B) thick as fuck and don't 'get it'
C) don't want to do it
D) aren't good enough / fast enough
I suspect there's a combination of not whole-heartedly wanting to do it and not pushing themselves to do things they aren't entirely comfortable with. It's an expected by-product of constantly changing your manager and approach with lots of inherited players for each new manager who are more comfortable playing a different way.
