Interview With Adkins After Bradford

Decent interview and there appeared to be none of his usual Adkinismns.

He sounded more serious and slightly annoyed, rightly so after todays performance.

He has a difficult conversation with his captain coming up.

HB , also perhaps a difficult conversation with Brannigan and the board , with regarding the ongoing negotiations for certain loan players , especially in certain instances , were the hold up , could be at our end . We may have to be prepared to meet players / clubs wage demands to sort it .

The longer this goes on , the more points we will drop , and play more catch up . I know its been talked about the 93 loan days , whatever it is , but the quicker its sorted , perhaps the more stable / consistant we will come.

We just require some quality to pull the team together . Sometimes we say we are not far off , and then other times we look miles off .

Without making any assumptions Bos, if I understand your point about the loan period, I raised a similar point in another thread (don't ask which one, I can't recall). I've paid a great deal of attention to the loan period scenario, especially the matters that have arisen over ensuring that we manage to hold onto loan players over the xmas period. With regards to this, sometimes I think it's possible to box too clever. The assumptions appear to be based on the fact that, while we're holding off from signing loan players, we'll still gather enough points now, which in turn allows us to try and manipulate the loan situation to our advantage. In short this strikes me as daft and ill-advised.

Aren't points gained now as valuable as points gained at any other time of the season? If loans secured now contribute towards a winning mentality surely that will enhance the habit of winning? Should we be unable to hold onto any loans over the xmas period it could be that the desire to win will have embedded itself in the squad's mindset? We've dropped 8 out of the last 9 points, so whatever the why's and wherefores surrounding the 'do we or don't we sign' scenario, as things stand we're hardly bubbling with the sort of winning mentality that a successful team is meant to embrace.

My advise is to not overthink matters. Secure better quality players sooner rather than later. Otherwise it might make the task of winning games that bit harder as we attempt to reignite our promotion push.

Terrible interview.

When asked about how we are going to stop shipping goals says he is going to work with what we've got.

Not much of a glimmer of hope on players from outside, offered nothing on that front.

From about 3.05, 3.30 side steps it.
It's obvious he's trying to get players in but every time he makes a direct comment on it he gets slated for not getting it
over the line. things are obviously on going but no point in bringing anybody in , loads of punters on this site including
Me feel we have enough squad fillers, game changers are the ones he's after and they don't grow on trees at this level.
We may have to be patient a bit longer as it takes two to tango and clubs look after there own interests first.

I'm sure McEveley will accept that it was a professional decision as we looked to get back into the game, switched to 4-3-3 with little protetction in front of who was playing left back. As McEveley, already booked, would have had to deal with the quick Marshall for the entire half it made sense to make a change.

Hopefully we can get a GIANT of a CB in before the weekend and I hate to say this but a nastier version of Bash as well - to replace Bash
Baxter, Scoogs and Reed to fill the other CM spot.

I just can't wait until we have Matty and the Beard back in the team.

Oh and has Freeman got a left foot? Could do with him there until Harris returns - that's when JB is back up to speed. Freeman not done a lot wrong imo

When some said at the end of last season all we needed was a big Centre Back and a big mobile Striker we would be okay I disagreed then. My opinion was we needed five quality additions two new defenders a left sided midfielder and central midfielder and the Centre forward, and that was before we lost Murphy.

Since then to fill any of those gaps we have got Edgar and Sammon (jury out on whether they are "quailty" or not) Woolford to replace Murphy (stop laughing back there) We also Brought Sharp back.

Still need at least four additions all of whom need to be better than the average players we have in those positions now.. Big job.

What, all 3 of them :)

This is was the key bit of the interview for me:

“We’ve got to cut down on the number of goals we are letting in, that’s for sure,” Adkins said. “It’s too many, simple. We’ll keep working hard with the players we’ve got and, if we can’t improve it in-house, then we’ll have to go out-of-house as it were.”

A message to our defenders to shape up or ship out.

I think that statement from Adkins may well also include the goalkeeper.

Not being funny but what was so good about that interview, pretty bland, predictable and formulaic for me

We might as well wait until Sunday now - a 93 day loan would then include all the December games.

We should have enough to deal with Donny, they've only scored 4 goals all season.

However, I realise this is United and we are very likely to fuck it up.

It might be a crazy idea, but does anyone think Sammon could play at centre-half?

He wouldn't be the first centre forward to switch to defence. Let's face it he isn't going to get much more than ten goals a season, maybe less.

Just a thought.

We looked a lot better with than without him up front on Sunday. Let's try proper defenders before converting strikers :)
