International breaks

Would be interested to know how many of the 'international football is dull & shit' advocates gave the WC semi vs Croatia a miss.

I consider myself in the 'dull and shit' camp (in so many ways), but of course I wacthed the semi v Croatia.

I wanted Ingerland to win, having been born here and lived all my life here, but really didn't give much of a toss about the outcome. It wasn't a particulalry good game and true to form, Ingerland lost.

I'd rather the Blades got promoted or won the FA cup, than Ingerland winning the next 10 WCs and Euros.

I don't 'hate' Ingerland, I just don't really have much passion left for them. It all goes on United.

That's what the 'loyal' fans chant isn't it?

What's with the 'priceless' jibe?

You love international football and live your life around it, I don't. Where's the issue in that?
Fair enough. I was at the Spick v Ingerland game in Dago Land the other day.

Despite my bristling, I do of course understand & accept your posts & position on this nonsense. I just find I never have to choose between SUFC & England. Particularly now we're in The Championship & get the International Break. I was in Seville. Tonight I'll be at the SUFC U19 Futures away at Worksop Town, my 29th SUFC Game of the season.
It's clearly SUFC AND England, not SUFC OR England

International Break Lovers may care to note the upcoming FIFA Council Meeting in Kigali, Rwanda on Thursday/Friday this week. It is widely expected that the existing proposal for (working title) World Nations League will be further developed & debated.
That would be the natural successor & extension of the UEFA Nations League. That would mean competitive games between (for example) England & Brazil, England & Argentina, England & Nigeria.
There is also an expanded World Club Championship likely to be on the table. UEFA, protecting the Champions League & the Nations League, are strongly opposed to the new proposals.
But, the carrots & sticks remain the same. FIFA will be able to promise untold riches to smaller, very poor national associations from the funding they already tentatively have in place for World Club/Nations.

A 3 hour flight back after a game in Sapain, with a 1 hour time difference is one thing.

An 8 hour flight back from Brazil/Argentina with a 5 hour time difference is another. The big club's are the players primary employers and this will not go down well.

Why not just expand the WC finals to 96 teams initially, with a proposal to move to 192? It could be played EVERY year.

In the spirit of debate.....
Part of it has gone "beyond football" though.
You say the Big Clubs are the players primary employers...
Yes, but increasingly, Big European Clubs pay those players with Commercial, TV Rights & shady Government Money generated in Asia, The Middle East & Africa.
That "money" wants to see those players they are paying for in the flesh. Big Clubs will have to let their players jet off to World Nations or World Club games if they are to stay on the Mad Financial Treadmill.
Also, Brazil & Argentina & etc who have many of their stars playing with European Clubs, will end up playing World Nations "home" games in Paris, Rome, Doha, Dubai, etc - rather than Rio or Buenos Aires.

Great performance by my Club side last Friday. Possession, passing, overloading, cross field pinging, recycling. Unfortunately, just couldn't get it over the line.
A fantastic International Break coming now. Disappointingly, a few Blades will no doubt be pretending they hate them & they can't stand waiting an extra few days for the next Utd game.
We'll have no problems filling our time with goodness. Four SUFC Futures games & one SUFC Academy U23 game to get to before the Rotherham game. And a long shot chance of seeing England win their Nations League Group and qualify for the Finals in 2019. If we can't get that over the line, v important England don't get relegated to the Nations League second tier.
Rugby v NZ at Twickenham yesterday, & Rugby League v NZ this afts & Twickenham next week again v Japan. Love International Breaks me...
Go......

It's a 12 hr flight from Rio to England.

the only real reason for England apathy is the total failure to achieve reaching a final since 66 while at times still having one of the best groups of players in the world available .

The FA are entirely responsible for our lack of success, other countries employed the best available managers while we picked nicely spoken old school nice men .
JOE MERCER DON REVIE RON GREENWOOD

this mess meant dropping from world number 1 to also rans in 12 years, and a pit weve struggled to get out of
no risks taken nothing gained
so many decent managers over looked
