Good evening all,

I know I've mentioned this before a month or two back, but the original fixture was rained off during the awful weather we had in the first few months of the year. Tomorrow is the first chance we've had due to other fixtures etc. to get the game played.

Therefore... the Inter Blades 10th Anniversary fixture between the "Young Uns" (current Inter Blades under 30) and "Legends" (IB's over 30 plus ex Inter Blades) will take place at the OutoKumpu Sports and Social Club on Bawtry Road, just across from our normal home venue the Sheffield United Cricket Club (just up the road from Junction 34).

Kick off is 11:00 a.m. and it should be an entertaining match.

If anyone is interested in contacting the Inter Blades at all to see what we're all about or are possibly interested on pulling on the famous red and white stripes, then please feel free to contact us via either the "contact us" form on the website (link below) or the e-mail address [email protected]

cheers,

Good evening all,

The Inter Blades 10th Anniversary match took place on Saturday 1st May at the OutoKumpu Sports and Social Club on Bawtry Road. A total of 32 players past and present took part in a very enjoyable game on a hot morning in Sheffield.

The Legends squad was as follows: Stu Mayall, Nigel Trusswell, Rob Brown, Andy Elliott, Martin Jones, Sean Adamson, Adi Brown, Danny Brown, Tom McCaig, Chris Shackleton, Paul Kemp, James Tissington, Jed Buckley, Daz Whitehead, Paul Beckett, Martin Wilkinson, Liam Wasden.

Inter Blades Young Uns squad: Chris Quinn, Ian Jones, Lee North, Robbie Hume, Mark Ashton, Drew Brown, Jonny Cooper, Chris Beckett, Danny Shepherd, Thomas, Aaron Trinder, Ollie Cooper, Dale Weldon, Ash Cowley, Ryan Beeden,

The Young Uns started the brighter over the first few minutes, but the Legends drew first blood after Tom McCaig was released down the right and his low cross found Paul Kemp who slid home to give the Inter Blades Legends the lead after 3 or 4 minutes. The Young Uns saw more of the ball but some rugged defending and experience ensured that debutant keeper Stu didn't see too much action in the first twenty minutes or so. The Legends extended their lead after Tom McCaig out paced the defence just beating the keeper to it and finishing to make it 2-0. The Young Uns fought their way back into the game though when Aaron Trinder found himself clean through on goal and finshed strongly to give the keeper little chance. The first half ended with the Legends taking a narrow 2-1 lead into the second half.

The second half saw an even first twenty minutes or so with the younger legs of the Young Uns and the experience of the Legends cancelling each other out for a while, then once again Tom McCaig's pace proved to be decisive as he burst between two defenders and struck an excellent shot past the keeper from close range to put the Legends 3-1 up. It's fair to say that the Young Uns threw everything at the Legends after this point, and the Legends were forced to defend fairly deeply, but a combination of excellent defending and poor finishing meant that with ten minutes to go the Legends had a two goal lead. A way back into the game eventually appeared for the Young Uns after Drew Brown (I think?) cut inside from the left and hit a low shot into the bottom corner to force a frantic last 5 or 6 minutes, but the Legends held firm to cling on to the win.

For me personally, I was absolutely chuffed with the turnout and it was an absolute pleasure to share a pitch again with several legends players who haven't donned the famous red and white of the Inter Blades for a while. There's so many people I want to thank but I must give a quick shout to Andy Elliot and Nigel Trusswell who both played just the first half hour for the Legends. This was Andy's first game in three years since breaking his ankle, and Nigel I believe was the eldest Legend and two days previously had only just landed back from an extended stay in China.

I hadn't mentioned it to anyone before the day, but I decided to name the anniversary shield the "Colin Walker Shield" as obviously he was the clubs founder and we may not have been playing this match if it wasn't for him kicking it all off and taking it forward ten years ago.

Already looking forward to the next installament in a years time!

Talk about a one sided report Danny,

The youngsters were swarmed round your area most of the game, hitting the woodwork 3 times, missing countless opportunities. But thanks to awful finishing, a loss proved to be the final result.

The old uns had 3 chances, and 3 goals. Prolific

Erm, No.

Our keeper only had 3 or 4 saves to make at the most. We defended fairly deep as you would do with the much older team (two 50+ year olds in the starting back four) and kept you lads out of the area for the most part and restricted you to long range efforts... like yours ;-)

We definitely had more than three shots as well, I can remember a few that tested your keepers and the one Big Daz struck against the post.

You guys were always going to have more of the ball, you should do with the age difference, but at the end of the day it's how effective you are with it, which is something we need to take into next Saturday's game with Barnsley.

P.S. Feel free to contribute your own match report if you like. I have to just type what I can remember, it's not like I have anything else to do on match days and in the build up is it, hence me not even making it onto the photo's.

Being one of the 50+ centre halves I really enjoyed it, and I'd say it wasn't half as hard a game as I was expecting. Think you lot flattered to deceive a little, lots of skipping about in midfield and running in straight lines, but not too much of a threat at the end of it. Yes you had a couple of very good chances, we did too, and as Danny said, you really should have dominated possession with the younger legs.

I think maybe over confidence was the issue. One or two of us looked like old men, and it's easy to start thinking "I'll stuff grandad here then bang a goal in", when it might have been better to play a few quick one two's to get our lungs popping.

C'est la vie, it was a good day, I'm still rocks and gorgeous and you young 'uns are without doubt, GAY ;)

:gallop:

P.S. If it's any consolation Robbie, I thought you were probably the Young Uns best performer on the day.

Also Robbie, check your e-mail later on today (not time at the moment to type it), need to have a word about next Saturday/Sunday.

Like I say, the old uns deserved to win, because they took their chances.

Looking at the young uns squad picture, is like looking at a bunch of obese people in yellow shirts.... me being one of the fattest haha
