Think Wilder might need a pair. Time and time again he’s absolutely shit his pants and opted to defend for 20/30 mins when one up. When’s he going to realise the best form of defence, is to attack? Pure shit his kecks again!

He is too afraid to lose instead of thinking of hammering teams .Get a lead then fall back this usually backfires as one defender will make a mistake. Sitting back is a big gamble as you give away the incentive to get another, drop the tempo which invites teams back into the game.

After 20 mins they had a tactical keeper injury as we were steam roller them. They went 5 at back and stop us playing and and nearly took us for a draw. If Hecky had our squad and vice versa he would have put 3 past us. His promotion season was more entertaining than this, though not as successful.

After the tactical stop, the space seemed to open up even more. I had a conversation after the tactical chat about what could he possibly have said to make it worse?

Their one chance in the second half was from a calamitous defensive error by Seriki, not some tactical genius by Hecky.
Some managers in the championship make better tactical decisions than Wilder: I don’t see that as some big surprise; but I honestly don’t think Hecky is one of them.
More generally, when you’ve won more points so far than literally every other team in the league this season, it seems weird that so much talk is of how bad we are. Our points per game so far mean that, if we keep going at the same pace, we will end up with more points than anyone has won in 17 out of the last 20 championship seasons.

Choudray dropped too deep in the first half.
He dropped into the centre of the defence just to get the ball and pass it sideways. Their 6, 8, 10 & 12. Were constantly moving, getting on the ball with little pressure. Peck was struggling to get on the ball.

Seriki was sucked into the centre and was too far off his man when they attacked. We didn't control the game and attacked on the break. Hamer coming on helped get a foothold as he got on the ball and looked to pass forward which was absent first half. Brewster again was direct in how he played.

Leaving aside player performances and leaving aside the penalty incidents. There is one major flaw in how Wilder uses substitutes. We can put 5 on the pitch, but we end up with moving players about unnecessarily. 3 of the back 4, we're subbed or moved. 1 of our CMs, and 3 of the 3 +1 attacking players. So in fixing one or two problems we weaken our defence and lack fluidity and cohesion. We end up dropping too deep and are less cohesive in defending.

Lastly we have a coaching or set up/ tactics issue when it comes to defending. We are too passive and stand off too far when the opposition have the ball in the wide channels. Our full backs retreat in to the box which usually the wide player can cross the ball as we can't block it as we are too far away. Bristol moved a lot of ball across the edge of the box all night with very few interceptions. We scrambled and blocked but it's risky and unnecessary

rubbish, must be one of his mates. We have under achieved, he has built a great team, used his resources well (Canon apart). But is so negative, as soon as we go one up. I want us to win the league, it will be the highest thing we have won in the 50 years I been going. If Burnley catch us it will be on him.

Totally unfair on Wilder, as he pointed out in his post match interview it was the players fault for not trying hard enough.

I suppose it depends on how much you believe his post match interview, but he did point out that it disappointed him also. He felt we were too deep and the 6’s sat back with no intention on pushing to the half way line.

It didn’t work! No shape what so ever first half!

But then its on wilder to bollock them and change it. If it's not working or the players ain't following the plan then they need telling and fucking off to bench. There's no reason he couldn't tell them at half time or get message on to pitch, also robbo as the "captain" who's watching it all in front of him should also see this and bollocks the players and tell them - it's his job too.

Either wilders set them up like that and covering his own arse in his interview or his players are ignoring his tactics.

At this stage of the season it’s not really about playing well. Granted that would be nice.

It’s about results and dealing with pressure.

The three of us vying for autos will all drop points. Even Leeds who just 2 games ago most said would run away with it have dropped 5 points in the last 2 games. Burnley with their infallible defence have started conceding. We aren’t playing overly well or haven’t been free flowing most of the season but have been getting results.

For all those moaning about sitting back to preserve a lead, obviously it’s not 100% effective (neither is attacking and pushing for a second goal!) but given our point tally it’s clearly working in the longer term.

It’s anyone’s guess which two teams will prevail, but I’d be surprised if it didn’t go right to the wire.

It was a defensive formation, but with a mix of tiring and naturally attack-minded players, and we did not look solid or organised. For the goal, we couldn't press the man on the ball here, we look flat footed, and they find space between our midfield and defence:

Felt like it was a mix of both tonight.

From the first minute they were flying up the pitch to push us back (that number 7 and Sinclair Armstrong mainly), especially when Cooper had the ball.

I think we could have worked a little harder to get out of the press (especially with better balls over the top for Campbell) but City were playing very high, and they pushed up even more at 1-0.

I agree .. we looked tired in our press though , their No12 had freedom of Sheffield in midfield really missed Vini last night in the middle . We improved when Hamer came on but couldn’t hold the ball up top when Campbell came off . The equaliser came as no surprise, they’d pushed us back the last 15 mins & we’d ran out of steam .
