Enjoyed that, lots of interesting stories. His banter with Simon Tracey made me think of a chat I had with him after a pre season game in Norway in 1997. As there had been a lot of speculation I asked him if we would be selling Alan Kelly. He replied (switching to English and raising his voice so Tracey could hear him) "No, we can't sell Kelly, we can't have a fat goalkeeper!" Tracey then grabbed Jan Åge's throat, but fortunately it was all good humoured. 😁

Brilliant that. The story of why we lost the play off final is madness

Equally, it now explains everything. I’d till now put it down to the heat on the day...

I never got the impression when he was with us that Kendall was anything other than fairly bland – obviously most of the stuff you saw of him would have been limited to a small amount of interviews. The stuff you hear of him now I’d never thought was the same person.

I will remember most of all from this the Charles Green Shower Incident.

Great interview and a few laughs and insights into what went on in football. Really loved the way he played with genuine enthusiasm and his unique goal celebration.

Also got me thinking how we seem to have had more than our fair share of corrupt, inept and terrible owners in the past.

Jan identified the twats running our club from the moment he arrived.

First time I've heard the IoM referred to as a party Island. 🤨

I’m assuming this is a joke all that to this day are playing on JAF, who still refers to it as the party island. I can imagine a few WhatsApps this morning to a 96/97 squad group.

The Hutch: “you guys won’t believe it but just heard the latest Blades podcast and....Jan Aage Lazy Bastard is still referring to it as the party island!”

Reg: “fuck off”

Mitchum “Mitch” Ward: “bloody hell”

Shorty: “someone needs to tell him – this has gone way too far”

Trace: “No chance – he’s probably still calling me fat, nobody tell him anything. He’s hardly in top shape himself now – more jumbo jet than aeroplane”

Ebbs: “hi – just dipping into the first half of this discussion before dipping out again”

Ned: “Good one Trace. I’m actually beginning to wonder: is this what Norwegians consider to be a party island?”

Roger Nilsen: “No.”

Katman: “hi guys!”

Dane: and he thinks when I’m one on one with keeper I’m gunna miss? Gee-orrr man!

Brilliant pod that. As mentioned it's no wonder we looked so lethargic during that PO final. Jesus.

I remember one goal, possibly Grimsby at home, where he pretty much sat the keeper on his arse before lifting it over him. Lovely stuff.

I never had Kendall down as the life and soul of the party. Had him down as more of a surly drunk.

Can’t get my head round the Isle of Man thing either. First off how could it possibly be considered a good idea to take the team off for a 3 day bender the week before the Play Off Final? Secondly....since when has the IoM been considered a “party island”?

He also touched on the amount of strikers we had in 97/98 which was mental in hindsight. I think we had about 8 at one point. No wonder we were fucked financially.

Warnock would be proud of that though.

Loved listening to that. Jan was in the side when I first started going to games and was one of my favourites from the very beginning. An excellent finisher and great entertainer. It’s still tragic we were deprived of the Deane/Fjortoft for longer.

He comes across as a great guy too and a real character. Hope we see him over visiting the Lane soon.

Howard Kendall? In his underpants? Walking up and down the aisle of the team bus? 😆

If they had won he was taking them on a week's bender to Ingoldmells. Suppose that might explain the shabby performance?

I still can't work out why there's a Borussia Dortmund shirt behind him with the Arnold Laver logo on it.

🤔

It's not Laver so I presume you listened rather than watched.

Near the end he picks another shirt up and you can see the logo for Dortmund's finest timber mill 'Der Vooden Yard' or summat.

I didn't see that bit.

Mystery solved.

It is very similar though. Well, the 'er' on the end.
