Just thinking about how much has been said about Didsy being injury prone before he came here. We have a number of players who are “mature” yet they have (largely) remained fit all season despite the high tempo approach that CWAK demand. I’m no sports physio but they and the back room team must have a special talent for training players in a way that keeps them healthy and able to recover well. There are other managers who seem to have players breaking down too often hence the cries of “if only we didn’t have so many injuries” etc. You can’t legislate for players getting clogged but strains and tears must be, to a degree, down to conditioning? and the desso of course.......

It's interesting how often some players get hooked even when playing really well, Duffy and Sharp are examples, and often get rested during a Satdi - Tuesday , spell of games. Perhaps some of that is down to the sports science and the strength of the coaching staff in telling star players it's time for a rest rather than listening to what they want

Yes, I saw talk from a guy that worked for one of the providers of monitoring kit to
Professional sports teams (the little black boxes on the back
Of their shirts. He reckoned that by monitoring players throughout training and matches, apart from flagging up when they were knackered, you could pretty accurately predict when they were likely to sustain and injury. Worth bearing in mind when substitutions are made that don’t make sense to the fans.

Matt Prestridge is a God.You'd have to go back to Tony Daley to find a bloke that got our team to a comparable state of fitness (Warnock era). He fell out with that moron Robson and was relieved of his duties, setting us back many years in terms of the fitness of the first team squad.
The management team also deserve credit: we take players out of a team as soon as they feel something. No risks to keep them on the pitch; no rushing players back. I asked Wilder and Knill at Farm Road Club - just after he'd got the job - whether they'd be making big changes on the fitness and conditioning side - after the unacceptable fitness of the squad in the second Clough and Adkins season. He said it's a massive part of the recruitment process, and that they had massive faith that Prestridge would make us the fittest team in the league and that he has a seat and is consulted re player acquisitions. They considered him an innovator in his field who also used some old style methods and values. Remind you of anyone?

Worth bearing in mind that we also rotated players a bit during the first 2/3 of the season or so - Baldock and Freeman have played about the same amount of minutes, Clarke started a few, Sharp had a couple of games on the bench, Johnson had a few games at LWB, Duffy had a few games off and Dowell played... we’ve really managed the squad fantastically this season, playing the long game. Even things like not rushing JOC back from injury.

I’m not a sports scientist but you’ve got to think that even the odd game off here and there has long-term benefits.
