Trotting out Berge as evidence that Wilder signs players from outside the British Isles is akin to someone rolling out the "I've got brown friends" line when accused of racism.
Wilder puts far, far too much emphasis on what he sees as necessary for a "Sheffield United player" and his narrow interpretation of that limits the scope of our recruitment to the Anglophile markets.

55 permanent signings, only two of whom required a work permit and hadn't spent most of their career in the UK (Berge & Verrips). The other 52 were either British or Irish, or signed from a British club.
Wilder does some things extremely well. Signing players is not on that list.
