55 permanent signings, only two of whom required a work permit and hadn't spent most of their career in the UK (Berge & Verrips). The other 52 were either British or Irish, or signed from a British club.

Wilder does some things extremely well. Signing players is not on that list.

Some facts are best forgotten though and replaced with 'social media facts' also known as myths or Chinese whispers.

I would say that you couldn't possibly make it up, but on social media you could state that black is actually white and it would gain traction in some quarters.

If Wilder did identify him and wanted him and pushed for his signing, then well done him. Credit in the bank. I can also credit him with identifying Blaster as a Godsend of a midfielder when half the experts on here wanted him loaned out for two years. However Brewster and Cannon are on the debit side.

So poor that we got promotions in 2017 and 2019 also got a 9th place in the PL in 2020?

I think if your having to go back more than half a decade to find the last decent signings your probably proving your opponents point for him.

In its entirety Wilder (bar a short period during 2018 and 2019 (but even then amongst the great signings were some absolute dross)) & the club in general have been absolutely horrendous at recruitment going back decades. We frequently get out of jail thanks to our academy dominating the local area and turning out talent that we can cash in on. If we were relying on player trading we’d have been in administration ages ago.

It’s why a lot of us keep pushing for change. Nothing we build is sustainable because it’s always a fluke.

Inspired by the 4 blades podcast I’m actually working on this, a lot of the data is hard to come back from the league one days so I’m making sure I can check multiple sources.

There's probably about another twenty in fairness! Bamford, Baldock, Rideweld, Cooper, McCullam, Burrows, Norwood, Egan. I think overall he's done reasonably well in the transfer market.

On the other hand what he's not gone us use the foreign based market to good effect like what Coventry and Norwich have done. So there is berit in saying Wilder is narrow minded in his transfer outlook.

I look at his record as a whole.
Leaue one upwards - 2016 onwards - simply incredible.
PL we totally stank the place out after the fun bus broke down
Similar under Hecky and CW in PL2
Missed promotion to the PL last season for on pitch reasons, tactics, fitness and bottle.
Sub optimal last season, whichever way we cut it and the 'atmosphere' said everything about us.

A great first spell but reality bit when we went to play with the big boys, both for Wilder and the club and we haven't recovered from that yet, IMO.

Looks now like we needed those PL promotion £££'s more than we all thought then?

We were fine playing with the big boys until Jack O'Connell had to retire from football because of his knee injury.
zHe was irreplaceable and the base of our style of play.
Once he left it all fell apart.

There’s a massive amount of confirmation bias cause it’s harder to remember all the shite like Holmes, Rodwell. Morison. Retsos etc… that never played.

I think we will beg to differ,I agree it's been a mixed bag but for me we have had too many bad buys and gambles on the likes of Phillips,Shackleton and Tom Davies.
