I'm not sure what system Coventry played last season, but from what I have ever seen of Fleck, he's neat and tidy, not bad with the ball, but he isn't a combative defensive type and nor does he score many goals. He's also not a great athlete. My assumption from what I've seen is that he wouldn't be bad as part of a midfield 3, but we wouldn't get enough out of a Basham/Fleck partnership.

He's strictly mediocre mate. He's also too small. But the S2 cognoscenti have made their minds up so he's a must-have and we mustn't miss out...

Possibly but why would he leave a club he's at to join one who were equally as bad last season? We know it's not because of money :)

I see your issue with how he is as a player. I do think he will be an upgrade on Reed but I don't think any of us believed a small midfielder was on the to buy list

Thank you for a sensible dialogue. It's Flecking refreshing amidst the madness on here...

What silly comments. Are you suggesting his goal scoring record is better than I said? Or that he's taller?

You base your football opinions on Coventry fans? How very odd. I prefer the unassailable facts, the experience of following football for half a century and the evidence of my own eyes. Clearly I'm misguided and should ask the experts...

I'm suggesting Coventry fans are in a better position to judge his attributes than you or I. Are you suggesting you know more about him than them because you've read some stats, what a silly idea.

Not come across you on these forums yet but I get the profound feeling you're a wum.

If he joins, I will fully support him, but I do hope it's not Fleck. Like Coutts and probably Reid, we already have 2 midfielders that contribute very little defensively or going forward.

Would love someone athletic who can go box to box, much like Coady did (and the job intended for J. Wallace)

No I'm new to this sort of thing. I would welcome advice as to how to go on.

I hadn't appreciated that all the fans of a particular football club had identical views or that Coventry fans were imbued with a particular wisdom.

I'll pick it up as I go along. Please bear with me...

Well I think the difference was so marginal as to be irrelevant, wasn't it?

What concerns me more, mate, is what he's got to offer us. I can't share the prevailing enthusiasm. I can see nothing in his career to justify it. Seems like an older, Scottisher Louis Reed to me, and that ain't a compliment!

You have clearly not seen this lad play f you think that he same as Reed.

Energetic, strong, very good passer, quick over 10 yards. Plus he is able to do that for 90 mins.
Good signing if true.

It seems clear that a number of Cov fans rate him

I think he'll do well if he fits in with CW 's required style of play

The main point I make tho, is let's give the fella a chance before we slag him off

Won't take long to form an opinion once he turns out, but at least give him an opportunity to put his boots on

Grandison is right footed I think he plays right back occasionally as well. Knill said left footed centre half didn't he?

I believe he is an upgrade on Louis by dint of experience but strangely enough not stature if Wiki is to be believed. LR 173cm & JF 169 cm. In addition he moves better "box to box" as opposed to young Louis who has a passing game when given time and confidence but who tends to vanish under pressure. Who knows how young Louis will turn out, but purely on the basis of experience and (at the moment ability) Fleck would be an improvement on Louis. To be honest anything would be an improvement in that pedestrian midfield at the moment. Oh for a "playmaker" and a box to box "water carrier". As beggars can't be choosers I don't mind Fleck.

John Fleck only scored 4 goals last season but they were all outside the box. I think hes a deeper lying midfield playmaker. Reckon he'd be a good signing and hes at a good age.

Pick of the 4 at 1.11 secs in.

Fleck would be an absolutely superb signing and for once we would be cherry picking the best players from potential promotion rivals in the same league. Honestly, how often do we do that ffs?

He is a full of energy, box to box playmaker who rarely gets injured. He would run rings around any midfield player we currently have. Anyone who questions this signing has blancmange for brains.

hopefully be getting mcfadzean as well and that would be cherry picking 2 players from promotion rivals

When I've seen him I always thought he's a tenacious little flecker and he can

Everytime I've seen him I always thought he's a tenacious little flecker that can also play .Underrated in my view he would be a excellent signing proven quality at this level also could easily step up .

Didn't we say something similar about Florent Cuvelier though? Don't get me wrong, I'm prepared to believe he will be a decent signing, but I'm not going to wax lyrical about him, as if it's some major coup signing, because like most people on here, I really haven't got much idea how good he is. I know one of our previous managers rated him and tried to sign him, I know he got Coventry's POTY last season, I've seen him play for Cov once last season, and he didn't stand out much to me and I've seen him score that goal on the YouTube vid. So...I've no idea really but let's hope he'll be good. The midfield players that really impressed me at League 1 level last season were Romain Sawyers of Walsall and Bradley Dack of Gillingham.

Cuvelier is totally different. Injuries have ruined him, he was a grand player before them. Now he looks quite muscle bound.

I think you’re deliberately evading the point now Pinchy. The point is that fans who have watched a player week in week out for the last 2-3 seasons are probably in a better position to Judge than the likes of you and I who will have only seen him a handful of times. Of course not all fans feel the same way about a player but there can be a general consensus. I find it amusing that you pick up the point that not all fans share the same view whilst constantly repeating a mantra about our fans as having one particular mindset.

I acknowledge your points about the weaknesses in his game and to some extent share your concerns. I do think you’ve overplayed the non-scoring part a little given he got 4 last season. I do think on the whole he’d be a decent signing from what I know of him. Doesn’t mean to say there isn’t a better one out there. We are however, unlikely to find someone who combines height, pace, stamina, aggression, passing, scoring etc. as if they have all of the attributes of a top central midfielder, they will be playing higher than league 1.

We can only dream of a Bradley Dack. If only we had listened to Barney and Ricky two years ago we might have spirited him away. Bloody Clough eh!
