I'm still unclear and uncertain why some of my fellow Blades think Jake Wright is the new Franco Baresi.

Can someone please tell me what Wright brings to the table that Stearman doesn't.

In every game I've seen Wright play he's never stòod out to me.
exactly.

Bollocks. Stears did nothing wrong at all, apart from being part of a defence that didn’t cope well at set pieces. He was a victim of a referee error for the pen. No doubt. He played the ball.

This capmpaign will fail. Jake’s had his time. He’s a Wright-Off now. Tufty is moving on. He prefers Stears. No amount of vindictive tantrums from Shakey Jakies will alter that. In fact, I bet Big Ben Heneghan has moved ahead of your boy.

Go watch him at whatever lower league club signs him next season. We’ll manage.

Well done Stears and the boys. Great point despite the ref’s blunder.
why do you feel the need to turn this debate into a partisan hostile one?

he doesn’t stand out.. he doesn’t need to
if you are making last ditch tackles you were in the wrong spot in the first place

What's Stearmans record now?

Pinchy? Care to inform us, since you're his fanboy?

I’ve made it perfectly clear that I’m not. I saw you Shakey Jakies coming. I always do.

Stearman’s record is a career played at a significantly higher level than Jake Wright. It seems all the professional managers have got it wrong and everyone is out of step, including Wilder, but you Shakey Jakies.

Chris Wilder is Stearman’s fanboy, not me. Ask him. Make sure you do so in a really mardy fashion and emphasise that you put your boy above the best interests of the team. It’s the Shakey Jakies’ Way.

That’s a bit rich. I don’t. I balance the argument that the knee-jerking, tantrum-throwing Shakies would love to be all one way.

Ask your question of those who can’t wait to vilify Stearman, ignore his obvious qualities and blame him for mistakes he doesn’t make. Or does that not suit your partisan approach?

It was a penalty, he didn't touch the ball..

There was no need for him to do what he did. The kid had his back to goal, there wasn't much threat and Baldock was backing stearman up

It wasn’t. He did. I saw it. You saw what you wanted to see. You’d be stamping your little foot and bleating if that was given against Wright.

Oh, you Shakey Jakies...

i’ve never doubted stearmans ability pinch.. read my posts back.. it’s a question of getting the right formation
personally i’d go joc.. wright.. stearman as the back 3 as i believe stearman has the footballing ability to bomb on something ccv does not.. the spanner in the works isn’t stearman it is ccv who it seems ‘must’ play

all this playing at a higher level means nothing .. i normally enjoy your bombastic posts but you’re going a bit daft this time ;)

If you're correct, then that unique skill probably makes Jake Wright the finest Centre Half to ever grace the Bramall Lane pitch.

We've had some very good defenders in my lifetime and what often sticks out to me is some their amazing goal saving last-ditch tackles.

What do people think about Villa’s second goal ? Pretty much a free header - and who’s the nearest united defender ?

Had Wright played it would likely have been him. He wouldn’t have won it. He’s a very small centre-back and not particularly good in the air.

It was bad defending at a set-piece by the team as a whole. It was a problem throughout the game.

Have Tufty and one or two of us who have dared to notice Wright’s limitations got it completely wrong?

no .. that would be the guy whos name you use for your sig ;)
big paul rarely made last ditch tackles he didn’t need to.. the guy could’t even run ffs

As are you, You’ve decided that a limited, lower league CB is far better than he really is. Happily, Tufty selects the team and isn’t troubled by tantrums and knee-jerks.

read back the thread.. who is having the tantrum?

Lucky we posters aren't either! :D;)

Don't think I've mentioned any preference for wright over Stearman have I?

The manager says it was a penalty, the lad who gave away the penalty says it was a penalty..

But it isn't a penalty because you say so?

Lay off the port!!

I've watched it back again this morning, it's a penalty, but it wasn't Baldock backing stearman up, it was JOC.. Baldock stood and watched the lad cross it!!

Oh wow, pinchy having a go at people for their vitriol. I will see what Long and Reed think. You really are a plank

Tell them I noticed they were rubbish a long time ago. Mention that I predicted that neither would have a career at our club whilst the parochial Bladey Blades waffled on nonsensically about potential, game-time and givimarun. Ask Little Louis how he did yesterday. The Wishing Star is now a black hole.

Chesterfield. A local club for local players.

Played well tonight did RS,never a penalty

It was for me. Watch it again. It's a red boot that kicks the ball. If Stearman had one it with that force, it wouldn't have landed at Basham's (I think) feet, it would've cleared the area. The Villa player knicked the ball with his toe and it rolled to Bash.

Neither Tufty nor Stears have said it was a penalty. You’re making it up. I saw it clearly. Stears played the ball. Nobody would say it was a penalty had it been their favourite making the perfectly good tackle. Nobody would disingenuously blame Wright fir the second either, when all three CBs were weak and hesitant at the set piece.

Oh, you Shakies do amuse me...but I see you coming.

He's got his back to goal, no imminent danger, no need to make a rash tackle.

You say you saw it with your own eyes and he won the ball

I've seen it again this morning from various close-up camera angles. He didn't win the ball..

He has given the referee the best opportunity to give a penalty when there was no need to..

The kid had his back to goal!!

Is Harry Arter out if his depth in the Prem? He started lower down, as have many a player. Ian Wright wasn't bad was he? Didn't turn pro until in his 20s.

To say Wright is a limited lower league defender is a bit... Well... Shortsighted.

I've not said Stearman is awful or shouldn't be in the team. It's about balance. Sometimes your players with more 'ability' don't fit in the TEAM quite as well as others.

CCV adds much needed pace with bash in midfield at the moment. Wright and stearman would be taken to the cleaners

Disagree, especially away from home. We need to be tighter and CCV goes missing far too often.

Oh th vitriol

To sum up, Chris Wilder is a great manager, the best thing to happen to us in many a long year, but he doesn't know as much about players as some on here.

Fair?

I fully agree with regards to the penalty. Stearman did nothing wrong. No foul was committed.

Mind you I don't think it was a foul when Grealish went down and it seemed that Basham might get sent off. IMHO Grealish should have been booked for simulation. He was not impeded in any way.
