Since TalkPork devoted most of last nights show discussing why Westwood was the dark sides third choice keeper, is anyone here going to call in and suggest tonights show should be a discussion on why Billy Sharp is our third choice striker?

Is he third choice now?

Perhaps he started the season 3rd choice - was brought back for QPR - was rested v Hull and came on v Hull to try and recover the game for us - which nearly worked.

As good a goal scorer as Billy is, not convinced the management think he can play 2 games in a week, hence the bench v Hull.

I expect him to play v Norwich as the shirt should be his now.

As for Westwood and the pigs - they need to off load high wage earners and the pigs are hopeful that he now gets pissed off, asks for a transfer and goes out on this loan deal with a view to permanent in the JTW. The pigs aren't alone in this - we've done it to players in the past, so do other teams, but more so, stupid football clubs, like the pigs who are up against FFP. The chickens are coming home to roost.

I know the purpose of this thread isn’t to discuss Westwood but seeing as he’s been mentioned......

Westwood isn’t being left out of Wednesday’s team for any reason relating to finances. He’s being left out because Jos doesn’t think he’s good enough, simple as that. That’s come directly from a player and a member of their backroom staff.

right - so that's the line they are spinning then?

Is this the same club that wouldn't admit to their fans they were in a transfer embargo?

Chansiri and his lieutenants appear to be closing down discussion within the club - ie: making it less and less transparent to the fans and it won't get any better. Alastair Campbell would be proud of the spin at S6.

The disillusionment is growing as each week passes now.

I'm sure I heard CW say in his interview Billy would be playing Saturday.
He looks in good shape, and scoring goals...think he'll be in the side partnering Leon up front, who I think will also come good.

They won’t play him cos they can’t afford his contractual bonus’. That said I think Wildsmith is better than him - not much idea about the other one. Don’t rate Westwood that much, nor do a few pig fans I know who said he tailed off quite significantly over the last 12-18 month.

As for Billy. Just play the lad - he’ll score goals. He’s the best we have.

Radio Sheffield would probably explain that strikers are totally different to goalkeepers.

Normally a club chooses their number 1 goalie and play them for every match regardless of temporary lapses in form.

Strikers are more of a squad rotation situation based on tactics, fitness and form.
So it’s not relevant to consider someone as number 1 striker or number 3 striker.
They’ll all likely to get a similiar amount of games.

He's out of contract at the end of the season. Pigs are hoping to save on his wages and get a big transfer fee. They can't offer new deals due to the embargo.

My guess is that Westwood has appearance - and maybe clean sheet - bonuses in his contract. It’s common knowledge he’s on about 25-30k per week but if it’s 20k basic + 5k appearance + clean sheet bonuses, it would suddenly make sense. All summer, I’ve expected them to try and move him on due to have two competent kids come through in the GK position.

Problem is that some clubs might be interested in Westwood, Fletcher, Boyd and the like but are not willing to match the exorbitant wages. The players in question are not going to move unless their wage demands - close to the current level - are met. So W*******y are stuck. The only option is a loan - like Rhodes - where a team might take half the wages on but that only puts a sticking plaster over the financial wound - and the plaster will fall off again at the end of the season. It means that they have to listen to other deals - but the chairman is being stubborn. I expected Forest Fairy to go but he’s banking on him getting them promoted. A long shot IMO. It’s why there might be something in the João rumours but - on his current wage - he would still be comfortably be United’s biggest earner. Absolute bonkers financial (mis)management at the Sty.

Back to topic though, didn’t Wilder say Billy would start tomorrow? I’m sure that’s what he said in his Radio Sheffield interview yesterday.

He’s the best finisher we have but not the best striker.

He deserves a chance now but if his team mates don’t set him up playing the ball directly to his feet then his effectiveness to the team is minimal. That’s why in some teams Sharp has been great and in other teams (under Blackwell) he’s ineffective.

Looking forward to seeing how Norwood improves our chance creativity on Saturday.

There was no spinning involved, unless you’re suggesting that the players themselves don’t even know the situation within the squad.

Bearing in mind the bs on here that apparently comes from within our club it's easy to see why some would be sceptical. I understand they've battened the hatches at all levels and aren't discussing anything to do with finances. Didn't they say Westwood was injured and he tweeted he wasn't?

What?!? Jos and the dear leader saying one thing while a player says the opposite??

As a luvvy was once heard to comment, "There's something wrong in the state of Denmark". The casino mentality that now reigns freely at the sty is beginning to strangle any green shoots of commonsense that still appear. Either listen and obey or leave seems to be the mantra that has to be obeyed. It won't be long before quilted toilet paper appears, followed by female sanitary goods, all with Chanser's wise fizzhog demanding your attention. Of course, the real fun is still to come, but for the moment pay attention lad's and lasses, you've no idea what's in store!

Our striker situation has been discussed her extensively already and I couldn’t give a flying fuck about what they’ve talking about. They could have ET in the net for all I care.
Think ET would've scored more than Rhodes last season to be fair.

I can't believe Chancer hasn't had a fire sale already he must be off his head if he thinks those no marks are going to get promotion. Having said that why would players want to move when they are coining in those stupid wages even if they are not playing? We all knew their injury list last season was appearance driven, strange how they suddenly become fit again with only a few games left to play. Funny as fuck, they need rid of big earners but the players won't go and buying clubs won't pay the wages the pigs give them. Half their team will go for next to nothing in January and they will still have a fine to pay or points deduction.
I don't think we need to be debating who is our 3rd place striker that will be chosen on the pitch not by some club accountant.

Which is exactly why any decent manager wouldn't go to the sty when they find out that Jos is a dead loss. 'No control over recruitment? No control over team selection? Hmm. Sounds good. Now where do I sign, Meester Chansiri?'

Some inertesting comments here. But my OP was really about Porktalk bias. Not that they are. Honest. But they are STILL discussing Westwood s non inclusion again tonight!
