Sheffield United fans woke up in dreamland today after a deadline day to surpass even the wildest expectations.
Having stormed League 1 by a country mile last season, most fans were optimistic that the squad which amassed 100 points and over 100 goals in all competitions was well enough equipped at least for survival in the Championship without major surgery. However after bringing in 10 new players covering all areas of the pitch, ranging from seasoned pros, promising Premiership loans and up and coming talent from the lower leagues, sights are now surely set on a comfortable mid table finish at the very least, with the play-offs no longer looking unobtainable either. Not only that, the club bucked recent trends by holding onto its most valuable assets, including precocious talent David Brooks, player of the tournament at the recent Toulon England success and on the radar of several Premier League sides. Indeed, the only significant departure was the mutual contract cancellation of John Brayford, a former fan's favourite who seemed to have become disenchanted with life at Bramall Lane and who's departure may actually prove beneficial to morale.
With a favourable wind, passionate and talented manager, and money to spend in January, there are those at Bramall Lane with sights set on the biggest prize of all.....
Just an alternative perspective with a twist to the transfer window for those blasting the club.
