Improvements needed in match day atmosphere?

People have tried in the past but it is oftern met with ridicule. Examples are in this thread.

To fix the issue and generate a good atmosphere in a 0-0 with Coventry the same as a night match in a cup quarter takes planning. This unnatural approach comes across as cringe but is the steps needed to get there. I remember going to palace when they had just started their section and it looked as poxy as our upstarts but they stuck with it. The only way to improve it is by grouping together those of a similar mindset and hoping it rubs off. This failed in the past for reasons such as people not wanting to lose their traditional seats and early ridicule from others.

Can i point you back at this tomorrow when it's as flat as a pancake?

You almost certainly will be able to because it's not a massively important match in my eyes. If we lose, the very very slim chance of top 2 is gone but we're not out of the play off mix up by a long shot. If we win it's another step closer to play offs and the miniscule chance of automatic lives on for another few days.

That and the fact it's an early kick off which automatically means the atmosphere will be shite as it is 99 times out of 100.

Tomorrow’s game should have been a huge fixture with a crackling atmosphere.. unfortunately it is kicking off at an atmosphere destroying 12.30 lunch time.

I hate this kick off time more than any other, it always has the feeling of half the crowd being still hung over from Friday night and the other half not having had the pre match drinking time to get in the mood..

…which brings me to another personal bug bear.. the 3pm Saturday television black out of EFL games.

Now the argument goes this is done to prevent attendances at other lower league games being affected, and I can understand that if it was a top end Premier League game .. But Sheffield United at Home to Bournemouth in the second tier? If this game was being broadcast live at 3pm tomorrow, ( or for that matter any other Championship game) what effect would it have on attendances at other games across the country ? Next to zero in my opinion.

Every football fan in the country would rather have have as many games at Saturday at 3pm as possible.. the EFL and Sky should work together and get a season long trial of EFL games live at 3pm to see what happens.

And you think if safe standing or whatever its called was put in over night would suddenly make Bramall Lane a cauldron of noise.

Atmosphere is all down too who you are playing, the amount of away fans and if the match actually means something.

Prime example Fulham last match of the season let's say we have too beat Fulham to pinch 2nd cracking atmosphere, maybe even if its just too get in the play offs. Already assured of a play off place atmosphere and no chance of getting 2nd pretty flat. No amount of standing would change that.

They could put the flags back on the side of the kop for starters. No idea why they were removed, unless it was summat to do with the dispute between the Prince and Kev

What we need is for the opposition to cheat or dive in the first 5 mins and the ref to be an absolute prick. At present that is the only way anything gets done.

I also think the away atmosphere with a big following is 10x worse than if only the core 1,500-2,000 go.
Noticed that myself. The crowd only get loud if we have a crap ref, cheating opposition, time wasters or a Ex Pig goalkeeper playing.
Away games are always standing and the fan participation is dreadful at times.

I definitely DISAGREE with any suggestion that home fans need away fans for there to be an atmosphere. Or indeed, need away fans to be in a particular part of the ground. Home fans should be able to generate a positive, supportive atmosphere with no away fans at all. I think we've forgotten what atmosphere is. It's regressed into singing about the opposition & their fans. It should be joyous, upbeat, about our team. It should be for something. Not against something.

Bantz Chantz have replaced true atmosphere.

There are 3 options for tomorrow:

1) Flat - Saturday early afternoon KO, not a great spectacle of a game, they are better than us on the day but we don't play that bad.
2) Hostile - Billing does Berge in the first 5 mins and the ref ignores it, then the fans notice that Scott Parker is a lot like Frank Lampard and start getting pissed off.
3) Toxic - They press the shit out of us and comfortably beat us with our players looking sorry for themselves and play-off hopes fading fast.

Which one will it be?!

Too many women and kids on the kop. Kids on their tablets or phones and folk filming the game and therefore watching it on their screen whilst the game is actually on in front of them. There's a video of PSV fans at Leicester last night. Not a woman in sight. Made a racket.

Safe standing (or rail seating if you will) is the answer. The back 10 rows of the kop stand up anyway so it wouldn't bother them much. Away games tend to be dictated noise-wise from the back where everyone is again always stood up. Each to their own of course, but I prefer a good racket for 90 minutes.

Obviously costs are an issue.

OP criticises the artificially created atmosphere then suggests an area in the corner of John street called “Shoreham Boys” cringe. Chase me ! come on chase me !

Personally can’t see anything wrong with the current atmosphere. OP and others could consider moving to the back of the kop if they want atmosphere.

To be honest the games lost its umph and simply, it's become too Stop and Start. The game just gets into a rhythm and peep game stops, under way , peep, game stops, under way, peep a defender nudges a striker peep stop, striker goes down , on walk 2 trainers 2 minutes pass. Defending team make a wall , keeper not happy , ref draws a line , shot comes in , hits Eighteen Month( see nickname thread) whose sat in row Z.
Crowd sit down. Rinse and repeat.
The game never seems to hit boiling point.

Standing on the kop also needs to be normalised, and i mean from kick off to minutes added.

Can think of loads of Kop ends across the country where everyone stands for 90 minutes. Man, woman, or child. At our place though it’s just not accepted - at least it is away from home I suppose.

Like others have mentioned, having a group of fans stood next to the away end usually creates some atmosphere but it’s just not a thing at the Lane.

Saturday will most likely be dull as, despite being a huge game at this point in the season. It’s the same for every early kick off. No one’s had long enough in the pub but that shouldn’t really be an excuse.

Doesn't stop some....like I said, Cov fans never shut up at their place a few weeks ago and that was way before they were 4-1 up...

We need a section of fans to just sit together doesn't matter where really if you put 2,000 fans in-between the poles in the middle of the kop it would drastically improve the atmosphere

Hopefully the club will sort something like this if the rail sitting gets properly introduced

Really? I sit in the middle of the kop - if you can't see what's wrong then you've forgotten (or just don't care) about what it used to be like.

Many people who sit on the kop, sit where they stood 3 years ago. The difference is they've become old bastards, and don't want to stand, or sing. They are taking up what should be the "singing section".

I'm one of them, but I'm in a minority that still sing / crave the old atmosphere, and would happily stand / move to bring it back.

Get rid of the boring old gits, get more youths on the party powder in 😂

The club is missing a trick here. They could sell the perfectly legal* talc and Vim mix most of the silly twats are hoovering up in the belief it’s the real deal. They can’t even drink properly and have to throw their beer away.

*when l say perfectly legal!
