Why on earth would we put a release clause in?

To convince Ndiaye to sign the contract? It's basically a way of saying "we value you highly enough that we're not going to lose you to the first bidder, but if someone hits this mark then we won't (and contractually can't) stand in your way".
If he insists on one, sure, but why we would consider offering it out in the first case I've no idea. Why limit the price on his head if we don't need to?

Because we need to have something to encourage him to sign one. Plently of players now willing to run a contract down to move on a free and get the transfer fee as part of their wages at their new club.

We won’t offer a release clause. His agent will insist on one and it will take a lot of negotiation because the agent will want it set as low as possible to maximise the signing on fee from his next club.

But we counter that by offering him a percentage of any transfer fee.

Not going to change for the better but I hate the way this world operates.
To be fair a good agent should just be looking out for the best interests of the player. What the player values is up to them but it’s not in Illiman’s best interest to sign a long term deal with us right now without some break clauses that he can exercise if he likes the opportunity and he can always turn them down if he doesn’t.
The club aren’t powerless here either though. If we offered him a three year deal on 100k/week without any clauses I’ve little doubt that he’d sign it but we won’t because that’s not in our interests so we need to find the middle ground which suits both parties and that’s what takes time.
I think we’ll tie him down at some point this season.

To think we were pissing about 12 months ago trying to decide if we would offer him a decent pro contract. I think Slav pushed it through so he could select him

Yes that’s my understanding that it was Slav who pushed through getting him a contract. If the rest of his term was a bit of a disaster, this one thing he did was worth having him and the pay off he would have got!

Called up for Senegal again.

Friendlies v. Bolivia (a) on Saturday 24/9, ko 18.00; and v. Iran (a) on Monday 26/9, ko TBC
Both games are in France. Not having to travel from Bolivia to Iran in 48 hours (think 2nd game is actually Tues 27/9)

Hopefully some common sense can prevail. We've been good for him and likewise he has for us so far in his limited time.

Liverpool can fuck off by the way. He's not going there! Unless it's a club record for them. They paid almost 100m for thet guy who had a decent season in the Portuguese Farmer's League. They'll come in saying "we'll give you 15m for him". Hopefully we'll just laugh in their face! (Not saying they are interested, btw).

Be a bit shit to go up, then lose Egan, Berge and N'Diaye! That would seem a very United thing to happen!

As his reputation grows , defenders will resort to just kicking him , so he's gonna need to get a bit cuter when a free kick offers a better reward than riding horrible tackles.
This wouldn't be necessary if refs penalised nasty tackles with a booking whether or not the victim stayed on his feet + advantage was played.
I wish he would wear shinpads - I cringe when he gets chopped.
He also needs some protection from the refs.
As for his own tackling , I agree that refs need to be more careful when defenders dive after he's taken the ball from them fairly.
In the lead-up to Berge's goal , their defender put his shoulder into Ndiaye chest with force - I understand why Ndiaye went up to him afterwards , but he's gotta be careful not to antagonise refs because in order to be at his most effective , he needs them to see his speed & quality and not take the lazy way out of seeing him as a temperamental lad who is just as naughty as his opponents.
I also wish he'd wear proper shinpads.

Separately (and ignoring the cheating) I always think a lot of Premier League players wouldn't roll around as much if they had decent shin pads... And whatever happened to ankle guards?!

It would be a more United thing to sell all 3 of them this January.

Really want to see us get that new deal sorted with him soon.
He's been away on international duty of course but seen other championship clubs recently agree new deals for their assets.

Iliman feels like he's possibly one of the best assets we've had a for a while.

I'd like to think Prince Abdullah's appearance tomorrow might be to finalise this and any others (And it could be so) but think it's usually more down to Bettis etc. under the rule of our owners.

His contract may well be a big purpose of the Prince's visit

We've sorted contracts for key assets around this time before

This is such a brilliant video. Must mug off 50 players. His close control is something you only see from the absolute best players. We all know he's going to go to the very top, this compilation shows why. It's ridiculous how good he is and how easy he makes it look

Best player I've ever seen at Bramall Lane.

That's just visual Viagra.

Very good isn't it? Loads of it I've missed in real time. He's heading for the top. I don't think there's eve and a PL player to compare him to. Zaha maybe?

I've become accustomed to seeing Ndiaye sprinting into space with a confused group of opposition defenders trailing in his wake. He's exceptional.

That is just ridiculous, what a talent, what a player...

Close control and dribbling
Pace
Linking up play
Creativity
Goals, assists
Bringing others into play
Turning circle, centre of gravity
Sheer strength and tenacity
Tracking back
and whilst appearing very humble and down to earth, with a RIDICULOUS work ethic, and unbelievable honesty (never tries to con the ref or opposition).

Incredible.

I'm with Ainsley Harriott - best player I've seen at the Lane, easily. 🔴⚪⚔️

Does anybody know a good way to make an erection disappear. Don't say think of your sister naked, tried this and it only made things worse.

Just needs to add a little bit more composure in front of goal to his game if he wants to become a top, top player.

A few times there he makes good space for himself, it opens up and then he fluffs his lines.

He's improved this season but the misses against Forest in the play-offs still hang over us.
He can finish, so it's not a technique issue, just needs to become more consistent with it.
I think sometimes he'd benefit from getting a shot off quicker and striking it with more power.

What a talent though. An absolute joy to watch him breaking into open field leaving helpless defenders in his path.
