We lost control because of two rash and unnecessary tackles and shot ourselves in the foot.

Tackles ? Dont think Tangangas was a tackle it was a Yellow at most. Soumare lost control of the ball and tried to win it back. It looked worse than what it actually was but it was a red. Not a lot different to the tackle on McCallum that went unpunished

Tanganga but it makes no sense get in the referee’s face and then clatter an oppponent in the way he did.

I dont want players pulling out of challenges. Tanganga challenged for the ball in the air ok he clattered the Charlton player but its a yellow at most some Refs would have let that go. But Langford who obviously didnt take kindly to Tanganga questioning the decision to send Soumare off took his revenge. Ive heard we may appeal the Red on Tanganga

There’s just too many games where we are giving it away (particularly just before and just after half time) and my point is that smacks of a problem with professional discipline and the need for a leader who calms it down and takes control when the game context chnges

I would agree with you we do need a leader on the pitch Wilder has alluded to this
Our in game management is not good enough as you have said WBA, Preston and Wrexham are examples of this

Think it’s fairly common knowledge I’m not wilder’s biggest fan but even I struggle to see how much blame lies at his door for yesterday. I didn’t see anything beyond his standard questionable substitutes and lack of adaptability but nothing objectively worse than what we’ve seen in another game.

Players need to take some responsibility, it’s less about discipline and more about the standard level of intelligence of our squad. Langford had already got a few wrong, don’t give him a decision to make.

Strange that for such an ill disciplined team we have the lowest number of bookings in the division and the 2 red card yesterday are the only ones this season. We can debate whether discipline cost us yesterday but lets not pretend we have a general problem this season as the stats clearly show otherwise.

Once again, In the cold light of day, the fact that another 3 points are lost through our own lack of discipline and leadership becomes apparent, it’s not a blip, it’s a trend. CW stated that “we aren’t an ill disciplined side”. I think he means that we haven’t had a series of fines this season for punch-ups at the end of games. That’s true, but there’s more to discipline than simply not behaving like a disorganised rabble. Preston, West Brom, Wrexham, Mansfield, Charlton to name just a few all lost due to our lack of professional discipline and inability to stay calm and focused when the game requires it. The speed of transformation in all these games (and others) from slick, competent professionals to headless chickens is alarming and repeating and will ultimately cost us any hope of a play-off challenge.

Who’s to blame for this? I think everyone takes a share. CW’s criticism of Brooks last week for ‘wandering all over the place’ was probably accurate but he’s the manager so bloody well do something about it during the game when it makes a difference. Leaving an attacker unmarked at the edge of the box against Mansfield and not addressing it, costing us 2 goals was downright sloppy and again not addressed in-match. Tanganga’s red yesterday was debatable but his in your face rant at the referee and subsequent crashing into the back of an opponent was plain stupid and counter-productive at a time when the team needed a calm head and to get to half time to get reset….and he’s the captain.

The exasperating thing for everyone is that this is a decent side who should be top 4 in the division on individual merit but now languishing in 17th place on collective inability to adapt to the context of a game. CW appears consistently unable to take responsibility or accountability and there’s no -one on the pitch who steps up to settle the side when needed. Poor leadership on and off the pitch leads to ill discipline during games and we are consequently giving games away - it’s so damn frustrating! We are more than good enough, on our day we are a tremendous team, but the ‘spine’ we need isn’t the traditional goalie, centre half and forward, it’s a core of mature, calm leadership starting with the manager and stretching down to an on field captain who reacts and responds to the game, not his own emotions.

What a really sensible and well thought out post.I think the ref set out his own performance though as soon as he pulled players up for pulling pushing at the corner in first minute and not booking their player for the challenge on Mcallum.Inconsistency in his decision making was what riled Tanganga but as you say he should be more professional as captain

Oh ye there's loads they post painfully tedious stuff like this constantly. Been best team in league last 10 games and playing great. Every defeat we have these essays on Wilder. Boring.

I don’t think anyone is questioning the fact that we have done well in the last couple of months, but surely it’s fair to point out that just when we seem to have cracked it something goes wrong.
Of course we cannot win every game, but if we were to make the play offs we cannot afford to throw away games like Wrexham and Charlton.
Why we have these blips is a reasonable point for a forum to discuss. Yesterday was clearly a game where a lack of professional discipline cost us three points.
I agree that continuously attacking CW is unhelpful but pointing out flaws on a forum is ok with me. No doubt CW is well aware of what is happening and, hopefully, better quality reinforcements are about to arrive.

That said I think the reds were just unfortunate. Soumare has a modern overstretch studs showing red in him. I've known that for a long time. I think Tang just mistimed his jump. How we went from total cruise control (but having our customary lack of ruthlessness) to nine men was inexplicable.

Not sure many would get in the 2016 - 19 team, either in terms of fitness or commitment.

We've got a lot of quality for the level but we have zero idea on how to manage games. There's no real leaders in there and we're very flaky. I can't fault us yesterday in how we played and you can put it down to a freak game but too many times we've been in complete control only to be hanging on or losing by the end of the game.

That said, I don't think we're far off being a top 6 team. I know we will lose players next season but there's a good group there you can build from
