Once again, In the cold light of day, the fact that another 3 points are lost through our own lack of discipline and leadership becomes apparent, it’s not a blip, it’s a trend. CW stated that “we aren’t an ill disciplined side”. I think he means that we haven’t had a series of fines this season for punch-ups at the end of games. That’s true, but there’s more to discipline than simply not behaving like a disorganised rabble. Preston, West Brom, Wrexham, Mansfield, Charlton to name just a few all lost due to our lack of professional discipline and inability to stay calm and focused when the game requires it. The speed of transformation in all these games (and others) from slick, competent professionals to headless chickens is alarming and repeating and will ultimately cost us any hope of a play-off challenge.

Who’s to blame for this? I think everyone takes a share. CW’s criticism of Brooks last week for ‘wandering all over the place’ was probably accurate but he’s the manager so bloody well do something about it during the game when it makes a difference. Leaving an attacker unmarked at the edge of the box against Mansfield and not addressing it, costing us 2 goals was downright sloppy and again not addressed in-match. Tanganga’s red yesterday was debatable but his in your face rant at the referee and subsequent crashing into the back of an opponent was plain stupid and counter-productive at a time when the team needed a calm head and to get to half time to get reset….and he’s the captain.

The exasperating thing for everyone is that this is a decent side who should be top 4 in the division on individual merit but now languishing in 17th place on collective inability to adapt to the context of a game. CW appears consistently unable to take responsibility or accountability and there’s no -one on the pitch who steps up to settle the side when needed. Poor leadership on and off the pitch leads to ill discipline during games and we are consequently giving games away - it’s so damn frustrating! We are more than good enough, on our day we are a tremendous team, but the ‘spine’ we need isn’t the traditional goalie, centre half and forward, it’s a core of mature, calm leadership starting with the manager and stretching down to an on field captain who reacts and responds to the game, not his own emotions.

Excellent post

We are throwing it away

Lack of leadership on the field has been an issue now for several years. Who was the last player you would call a traditional captain? O'Connell?

1st red card. it a certainly a red. but thats not ill discipline. unfortunately you see a carbon copy of that most weeks up & down the country. poor 1st touch & then panicked in try to rescue it making a rash challenge

2nd is incompetence from the referee as i said yesterday. if your going to punish every CB who doesnt win the 50/50 header. there will be alot of abandonments

Didnt look like Tanganga was ranting. Just looked like he was stood talking to the ref questioning his decision, as is his right as a captain, and the ref overreacted like a spoilt queen. Surprised the ref didnt grab his handbag, pepper spray Tanganga and run away screaming that he was being attacked, the little pussyole.

He WAS ranting at the referee who had already shown what sort of a referee he was.
Yes, there was a sense of injustice at the treatment of the tackle on McCallum and the treatment of Soumare but the game was still there to be won or at the least drawn, even with 10 men and the captain needed to be aware of that and act accordingly.
The appalling ref had already told him to calm down and that's what he should have done.
The challenge was an unnecessary one and gave the Ref the excuse he needed.

Boring post. Incredible to me you've sat and typed all that out. We've all heard it before. Long rambling posts that are just the same boring criticisms repeated in slightly different ways aren't impressive.
Not impressive to you, but there may be others who would disagree ?

Can't argue with any of that 👍

In my opinion your post is written purely to deride CW.
A bad touch from Soumare led to a bad tackle! Tanganga's red was only a yellow in nearly every other game.
These red cards we're, "maybe" avoidable, but unless you expect players to pull out of every challenge, these things will happen.
Especially when the referee is a Bellend.

This post is spot on. Against Mansfield we left a player unmarked on the edge of the box and bosh. Not learning from that, next corner there are two Mansfield players unmarked on the edge of the box, double bosh.
In my opinion all the player's congregating in the box is unhelpful and causes disaray at corners. Final point, why don't we have a player on the halfway line, when defending a corner as an outlet?
Too many times we clear a corner and the ball comes straight back as there's no onto fight for it.
These are the basics you teach at Junior football. No need for a Uefa B licence to teach this.

Not sure there was much different in the challenges we see week in week out from both teams on the pitch. 🤔

Talking to the ref, not ranting. Ref was acting like a fanny. But then, he looked and acted like a precious wet fanny as well right fron the off at the first coner we had. Oh and also, top tip - if you think someone is getting too angry, don't tell them to 'calm down' - which is what you assert the ref said to Tanganga. Anyone with any type of brain knows it just causes more anger. Oliver Langford acted like his namesake, Bonnie, the prissy little elf

I guess we were fortunate at Middlesbrough that Peck wasn't red carded for a very poor challenge. Having said that I would rather us have a player sent off at Middlesbrough in a game we were always going to lose that yesterday.

Leave me out of it

Nearly broke her back

How does that, and the OP sit with our 2nd half performance?
Was that achievable with an ill-disciplined rabble?
I don't think so. The self discipline, organisation and focus is what had us pushing for an equaliser, whilst remaining solid.

I take your point but what I said is, I think, still valid. For starters, I didn’t say that at the moment we are an ‘ill disciplined rabble’ - that was a reference to last season where we racked up a ridiculous amount of fines for being exactly that on occasions. The second half display yesterday was good and shows that when we apply ourselves we can do it because we are a bloody good side. However, we still lost a game that we were comfortably in control of - again. We lost control because of two rash and unnecessary tackles and shot ourselves in the foot. After Soumare’s sending off that was the time for cool heads and the need to get to half time to collect ourselves and reset against a very poor side. I’m not ‘after’ Tanganga but it makes no sense get in the referee’s face and then clatter an oppponent in the way he did. There’s just too many games where we are giving it away (particularly just before and just after half time) and my point is that smacks of a problem with professional discipline and the need for a leader who calms it down and takes control when the game context chnges

No, it is an EXCELLENT, constructive and TRUE post. It is you that is boring with your negative criticism. I suggest you read the post again

Sure. And tbh it was kind of trying to reply to the OP in the same post.
Both, to differing degrees were avoidable and also potentially unjustified, especially the second . That's a series of threads in its own right.

But I can't project those two debatable incidents into an image of an undisciplined side. It just seems a huge rant (OP) for a frustrating outcome, points wise. However I feel, the second half shows more about the state of our teamwork and ethos than the sendings off.
