Didn't give too much of a thought for United or the fans whilst he ummed and ahhed over signing a contract for months before pushing a move through at the last minute and just before the season began, leaving us in the shit - forgive me for not feeling too sympathetic towards him.

Undoubtedly one of the best I've seen at BL but let's not pretend he didn't fuck us over when Marseille flashed him a bit of tit.

Yes, I'm bitter.
Wish nothing but happiness for IN. He was a wonderful player for us and always came across as a kindhearted person. Arguably he went to Marseilles listening to his heart more than his head (like Didsy and NC) which I respect. Genuinely hope it comes good for the lad

That’s a contradiction no? He ummed and ahhed and almost stayed despite working his socks off to get himself in to a position where Marseille - a big club who play European football every season - wanted to buy him. Most players - even those who didnt support Marseille as a youth - would have forced that through, downed tools, whatever needed to be done.

Yes he went in the end but sounds like Marseille played very dirty and we had left ourselves the possibility of him leaving for free in 12 months.

How could we have avoided the possibility of him leaving for free in 12 months?

No, that was kinda my (admittedly badly) disguised point - it was a selfish decision (which was entirely within his gift to do so) with little thought for the consequences to United's preparations.

I get why some want to see him do well. But not for me. I think he let us down badly in the end.
I think you’re being a bit harsh. Yeh it left us in the shit up top but I’m not sure that’s on him. You want him to be like “oh I’ve not been able to make my mind up but I better stay now cus they’ll be short up top without me”. Realistically no footballer is showing that sort of loyalty, ever. We also don’t know the finer details of what he told United. That signing video… is it possible that was all organised by United as a sort of seduction tactic using Sharp and the 10 shirt etc. I’m not saying it happened that way I’m just playing devils advocate towards a situation that may have been taken out of context as it was made public - possibly as a way to protect the hierarchy. Two sides to every story.

He was great for us. I wish he'd stayed, but it's not just about football. We spent 2 weeks in Provence on holiday earlier in August. Been a few times before but not to Marseille. We went "for the day". It's f****n awesome. I love Sheffield, but it ain't Marseille, especially if French is your first language!! He gave us some great times, but I hope it works out for him.

yeh as I thought - loaded question

What are you on about? It wasn’t a loaded question, I’m not sure why you’re getting so defensive.

You made a point, I was attempting to have a discussion about it, as per the point of this forum, and you’ve got all weird about it.

Ok I didn’t mean to make you cry

He'll be alright.
We live in a social media age where everybody craves instant gratification.

New club, environment, system of play etc.
The kids too talented not to make it work eventually.

He's still young and has a lot of pressure on his shoulders going back to his hometown club.
If they back him he'll return it in spades and I really hope he does, selfishly because the club has a vested interest in his success but also because I like the lad.

Illy was so happy at the Lane , when he was on the pitch with his daughter after WBA , you could just see it , it’s going to take some for him to get the support from anywhere like he had from us , he misses us and we miss him .
He really should have stopped one last season but I think he was pushed into going .

But the one thing that had surprise me is the reaction of the club in buying players, got to say I have been impressed with it , and am 100 % behind Hecky no matter what happens !

He made his choice. He is going to have to live with it.
Looks like someone who is now unhappy having made the wrong decision.

He was happy and United and appreciated. Whilst there is some sympathy amongst their fans to give him time, it’s absolutely not the start he wanted.

Worth following this. He’s not money motivated. He was very happy with us. Could be a possible loan bid in January to give him back some joy?

This, and as much as he was good to watch, and we’d have loved to have watched him i the prem, he champ stats for top,ha;f but there was about 6 strikers who had better stats.

I don’t blame him for going late though, the club should have said to both him and Berge either you sign the deal before pre season starts or we’ll sell you and youn won’t be part of our pre season plans
