It'll be interesting to know what or whom their source is for this...

I'd imagine your card details/bank details would have to be overseas as well.

Indeed. That's fine though due to ex-pat family.

Upon US rollout WWE network needed an overseas address too (in conjunction with paypal). People got round it using schools and other public addresses. Can't say if it would work the same obviously.

I managed to get a subscription simply by finding a random address in America and using a website to generate an American phone number.

I think Jordo is right. IP + foreign address.

I'd suspect that they don't need to go to that level of restriction as its not a legal issue, just a contractual one. The Football League will want to maximise their revenues and they know that people from the UK go on holiday and may even have holiday homes abroad.

I saw on another thread a wider quote that there could be a fee per game (and not just an annual subscription) for individual games. If you have a Blade on holiday in Lanzarote when the Blades v Pigs is played back in the UK, it would restrict his ability to watch.

The IP, whilst it can be got around is a reasonable measure to restrict access.

ITV do a similar package, called ITV essentials.

They do a monthly subscription and a 'holiday pass'

The football league may want to maximise but football clubs certainly won't want to lose out on ticket sales due made up IP address.

I think that's been proven not to be the case since the inception of the Premier League. It may actually encourage more fans to go to the games because it opens the market to kids...

Don't they do something in the US where the match is unavailable to local TV unless it is a sell out?

Surely that has to be the future of watching live football in the UK? Allow fans to pay say £5 to watch a match online if they live over an hour away from the stadium it is being played at.

From a purely revenue point of view, you'd still get people attending live matches but you'd get far more income from the online viewers. Let's face it, if you don't go to away matches, you'd definitely pay to watch every match you can online.

the rest of the report is pure comedy gold from the comedy club

Chansiri is committed to 10s of millions of investment in providing a ground up grade
all funded by prem money, apparently

a small proviso ,
we can announce our 3 tier new 30000 seater kop we are building with champions league money then

he was moaning about having to spend money on safety provisions
hillsborough never really have set money aside for what they see as unnecessary stuff like that

This is from a pigs site, but is relevant for us as well:

Indeed it's crap - sme of us who work in this field complained to the FL when it was first introduced.

Complete and utter bollox of a website.

In reality when it was first introduced, if you had fibre is was acceptable - anyone on ADSL struggled with the amount of content.

Seems reasonable ..... but if I already have a Season Ticket, that wouldn't apply

So I ought to be able to subscribe

I'm in the lucky position that I have a property in Portugal and also a Portuguese bank account. Happy Days :)

Has anybody got a link to this that doesn't come from the piggies?
Can't find anything on Google and it seems like quite a big thing, for all the teams in the Championship, not to have been announced/rumoured/discussed more widely on the internet!
