If the board decide to sack Micky Adams i really want them to do it soon, please do not do a Kevin Blackwell and 3 games in show him the door. This will be a very important summer and if micky isn't sacked he should be given until at least xmas to see if he is the man to take us back. I think the sacking of Kevin Blackwell after 3 games was a major factor in our relegation and i truly believe had he been in charge all season we would not have gone down. I am not saying we would have got promotion, made the playoffs or even finished top ten, i just think quick changes in management made a massive difference in our season. I don't want this to turn into a should he stay or go post, just whatever decision the board makes i really want it to be instant after the Swansea game.

Come out and back him or sack him.

From his post match interview, it seems that discussions will take place with all concerned in the next 10 days so you'd hope one way or the other it will be sorted quickly.

I have to admit to being pretty mixed about Adams. A part of me wants to keep him, but the other half of me wants to kill him. Since he arrived I can see more of a team pattern however his purchases, his substitutions and press conferences just anger me. I remember when he first came that someone said be careful because he is more stubborn than he is a blade and that seems certainly true.

I just think sometimes he doesn't get it and what we are angry about. When Cresswell came on as sub on Saturday I just walked out.

Should he stay or go, unfortunately I think we are stuck with him, and if we are I hope that he reflects on some &*(&*(&( shocking decisions since he has been here

He's made mistakes sure but there's a big difference in trying to paper over cracks and re-decorating. We're probably going to need DIY SOS'ing in the next few months.

Its Decision Time

This really is a very important season coming up. There are two ways which we could go, based on clubs of a similar size to us who have found themselves in League 1....

Option A is to make poor decisions with regards to management, and end up like Wednesday, Southampton, or Charlton, stuck in League 1 (I know Southampton are virtually promoted, but it took them a while).

Option B is to completely clear-out and rebuild from scratch, introducing young players who are hungry to play at a higher level, want to get this club back to the Championship. Look at Leiecester and in particular, Norwich, to see what can be done.

Over the next few weeks, each member of the squad needs to be carefully examined by the management team to determine which represent good value for money, and which are a waste of space (I'm naming no names...) ;) . I'm undecided as to whether or not Mickey Adams is the right man for the job, but then again it isn't my decision to make. I just pray that the board get the decision, and the timing of it, right this time. If they do, it could put the club in a much better position on and off the field, for many years to come.

The board have come out and admitted mistakes have been made over the last few years. Now is the time to go out and put right those mistakes. If they show just how determined they are to get Sheffield United back to the Championship as a stronger unit which can compete at the right end of the league, they might just be forgiven for the last few years...

Unfortunately, the starting point for the board will be 'right, how much money have we got, where can we make cuts and what's the least we can get away with spending'. Any big plans about re-structuring, team building etc etc will be finance driven rather than from any footballing standpoint.

I still think this may be a blessing in disguise in that we will have a decent group of young / development type players to start from (subject to sales) and we might stumble on a young, hungry team almost by default but as I say, everything will be driven by finances, not necessarily 'learning from mistakes' about loan players etc.

I don't think the loans players are as ready available in league 1, bad grounds, poor pitches etc i think most clubs prefer championship clubs. Either way playing in league 1 may mean certain fringe players can handle themselves at this level and young players haven't as big a step up.

Au contraire.....the step up will be just as challenging for the youngsters IMO. L1 (albeit a lower level than the Championship) is a very competitive league and requires just as much physical and mental toughness as the league above. As I've said before that league is not as poor as some would like to suggest and it will take our senior players time to adjust.....never mind the youngsters!

The transition from youth team to first team is always a big step up no matter what division you are are in. We have to be prepared for a tough season ahead but if we put together a decent squad and prepare our players in the right manner we can compete near the top. Just dont expect it to be easy because it wont be.

yet we are always sending players there for 'experience' .. they'll just have to gain the experience with our shirt on from now on.. as long as we shed the 'big club' mentality signing past it premiership players to show how big we are then we'll be ok

For a club that always crys that it doesn't have money cutting talent for the past few years, fielding a skeleton squad presently have every player from the youth to the first team open for sale.
Just where are they going to find the money to buy out the two years remaining on Adams contract ,he isn't going anywhere.

I don't think loans are less likely, we'd probably just be shopping in a different market. Rather than taking Prem players, we'd be looking at Chumpionship 'spares' or maybe one or two from our array of foreign links ;) Having said that, as we should have learnt from the season before last, loans should be for filling gaps, not for filling 1st team shirts from day one.

ok so if we do get rid of adams ,who gets the job ? pembo ? an outsider ? this is a path we hae very carelessly trod in the last year and look where its got us
i for one think adams (with the right backing ) could do a very decent job in lg 1
but im no expert ,dont envy the people in charge of making this decision to be honest

well said SP, the big club tag dont apply to us anymore.....it did,nt help wednesday last year did it

Now is the wrong time to be binning people off. We need some stability and consistency at the club if we are going to stand a cat in hells chance of attracting anyone to the club next season to play. We have enough problems without going looking for a new manager unless someone of significant note has raised their hand (and they haven't).

I have said it before and although I don't care for Adams one way or the other McCabe and the board have to have a big enough pair to stick them on the line and give him the season to prove himself. Only that way can they expect any continuity at the club. We have shot ourselves in the head by changing managers too many times now and undone 10 years of good progress with 2 years of stupidity. Amazing how quickly you can fuck things up and how long it takes to put it right.

As for envying the decision makers, if they are paid to make those decisions then I envy them greatly. Its a piss easy decision to make.
