If we had won tonight...

I don’t think our squad is big enough or has enough strength in depth to take 3 competitions seriously.
It’s enough for me this year that we are even in the Premier league.
It’s gonna be hard enough just staying up without using our first choice players in later rounds of cup competitions risking injury and fatigue.
Just a point at the lane on Saturday could be worth 20 times any cup run.

If we had won the League Cup it would be our first domestic trophy since 1925, with a place in the Europa League to go with it for the first time in our history. Hell, if we only made the final and had day out in Wembley it would be the first time since the 1930's.

I don't see how we can be so snobbish/apathetic about it considering our history. I'm not saying we really could have one it, only that we should have taken it seriously.

I'm yet to see a negative correlation between taking the league cup seriously and a relegation battle. Birmingham actually were well clear of the relegation zone after they won the cup in 2011 it was only after that they collapsed.

FA cup has weeks set aside > league cup is midweek.
fa cup has 3.6m > league cup 100k,
Fa cup is on free to air tv > league cup sky sports
Fa cup europa league group stage september > league cup 2nd qualifying round in mid july
FA cup community shield > league cup nothing
FA Cup is taken seriously with big hertiage > last night liverpool had players i didnt even recgonise

That's a common mistake to make. If we had won we would not have necessarily been playing Oxford in the next round. Anyhow, we didn't win, so it's rather irrelevant. It's a bit like the ghost of Jim Bowen this thread! ;)

Did anyone tell Wilder that you get a speedboat for winning it ..............? :)

Spot on Pal👍

Yes . It showed we are consistent.
Coming runners up in the championship gave us 150m quid . Winning the league cup gets you 2m quid

If you were chairman what would you get excited over

You and the Chairman can get excited over whatever you want, but I'd rather have a cup win than money and a year of consistency. As would any normal football fan. Isn't that what we all dream of?

If the time has come when football fans dream of more money in the coffers than actual trophies, then football is dying.

It would kept the reserves busy for 2/3 games...........Never mind eh

Look what it's done to other previous winners
Luton fell out of the league
Oxford same again
Wednesday . Gave their fans belief they were a big club . But they are just. Shit now

I cant understand PL clubs who never do anything better than finish mid table disregarding the cups and playing weakened teams and getting knocked out.

Quick poll

Who'd rather get knocked out of the cups early keep players a bit fresher and finish 10th-12th in the league every year.

And who'd rather have a go in the cups with most other clubs putting out weak teams, get to a final and possibly even win the thing and have a run in Europe - but the downside is because of a few extra fixtures we finish 14th in the league?

The moneymen at the club will probably look at the few extra million for finishing 2 places higher, but for a fan surely it's a no brainer?
