If we can only win Blackburn once ............

Which one would you choose Saturday or the Quarters ??
Gun to my head - Saturday - this is the future of the club we are talking about and a win on Saturday chalks another 3 points off our target.

Anyone saying cup needs a reality check - we aren't likely to win the cup, or even reach the final.

In reality, a draw on Saturday would be an ok result (although I'd rather look at it as 4 points from the next 2 would be a good result).

Maintaining our gap between now and the QF would put us in a stunning position. If we go into the international break 7 points ahead with a game in hand - and only 8 games left for Boro - just wow...

I had a vision we would get Grimsby in the semis and man u or man city in the final and after we finally won a game at new wembley the floodgates open

Tbf we've had good cup runs in a few promotion seasons so there's no reason we can't have both. Assuming we don't hit another injury crisis.

Promotion appears essential this season purely for the short term future of the club, unless something surprising happens.

My head says promotion is the most important but as a near 50 year old who's been going to the Lane for 42 years, the heart would take an FA Cup win.

The latter is very unlikely however, especially with the draw.

Maybe I should put this on the paranoid conspiracy thread but for anyone with the time snd inclination, check out the last 30 or 40 FA Cup QF and SF draws. All will quickly become clear.

So the league it is.

International break after the quarter final, interestingly. So maybe a stronger starting eleven.

Though we are playing Sunderland the Wednesday night before the quarter final.

Weekend of the 18th March. I assume that as we were already scheduled to play WBA on Saturday at home, we will just use that slot.

Doesn't work like that unfortunately.

All 4 games will be televised. I've just looked and it's saying the next round will be played between 17-19 March so I'm guessing it will be 1 game on the Friday night, 1 on the Saturday and 2 on the Sunday.

You would like to think that, given we are playing away at Sunderland on the Wednesday, that rules us out of the Friday night slot.

If I had to guess:
BHA v Grimsby on the Friday
Man U v Fulham on the Saturday evening
Blades v Blackburn Sunday lunchtime
Man C v Burnley Sunday afternoon/evening

Aha, switch the Man U and Man C games then.

There's no doubt in my mind we will get the least prestigious slot. No PL interest. No giant killing potential. Its quantifiably the least interesting tie from a neutral PoV.

True but hopefully on the Sunday as we play Wednesday (albeit Mother's Day).

Always always always league wins. Every 3 points we earn either maintains or distances us from Boro and sticks one more nail in next seasons championship campaigns coffin. Fuck the cup.

If we're talking hypothetically though, if I can guarantee Boro don't pick up points on their next game I'd take bearing Rovers in the cup as long as I know we'd go on to win. Imagine the sheer melt down in S6 if we somehow pulled off PL promotion and brought a cup home too. I think half of them would move cities.
Why would they leave Barnsley?

Quarter Finalist games in the week leading up to Quarter Final weekend...

Tuesday 14th March
Man City - home to RB Leipzig

Wednesday 15th March
Brighton - home to Crystal Palace
Blackburn - home to Reading
Burnley - away to Hull
Blades - away to Sunderland

Thursday 16th March
Man Utd - away to Real Betis

No midweek game
Fulham
Grimsby

So looking at that Man Utd v Fulham will DEFINITELY be on Sunday.

The Friday evening game is going to cause some bother with whichever team playing on the Wednesday gets it, as one of them, maybe two of them, DEFINITELY will.

Based on those fixtures, they have to scrap the Friday game and play 2 on Sat & 2 on Sun. Not fair

And to complicate things further, Sunderland will be reluctant (totally understandably) to move the Wednesday game to Tuesday as they are playing Norwich the previous Sunday.

Burnley should be able to move to the Tuesday - and then play Friday (although I'll bet Man C won`t like that) as both them and Hull play on the prior Saturday

Brightons midweek game against Palace could also move to the Tuesday, as they both play on the Saturday, that could be a Friday night possibility.

One thing is for certain, SUFC (and Blackburn) need to resist any suggestion of a Friday night, or Saturday lunchtime KO for our tie. Ideally we want it on the Sunday.

I concur that they need to scrap the Friday night game.

FA Cup game for me. The result on Saturday is important, but it won’t necessarily define the outcome. We could win on Saturday and lose every other game until the end of the season. We could lose and win every game thereafter.

Really hoping it’s not the Friday night. At a funeral on that day.

Yep think you're pretty spot on there.

The Man U and Man C games will get the "prime" slots although could see Man City v Burnley being on Sunday night potentially as not far to travel and better viewing figures. Hopefully would push ours into the late afternoon slot then.

The Sunderland game is on Sky. Can’t see that being moved.

We can't win the FA Cup without knocking Blackburn out.

We can get promoted still whilst losing on Saturday.

But we also can and should get something from both.
