To be fair that season was very much a freak. We got the equivalent of 54 points under 3 for a win, had a positive goal difference and were never in the bottom 4 until 4.40 PM on the last day of the season. In 98% of other seasons we would have been lower mid table with that record. As always happens with SUFC (cf 2011-12 and 90 points), freak seasons continually happen to us.

Maybe we've been cursed? Maybe McCabe should go and piss in all four corners of the pitch like Barry Fry did at Birmingham?

Why would most people not want Steve Evans? He seems the obvious candidate to me (excluding NW).
Why should appointing a proven successful manager be a controversial choice?
If I remember correctly last season, Rotherham fans were all wanting him gone and then they put a decent run together and they love him again. Maybe that's all we need. Or more I hope that's what we need

We did aright the last time we nicked Rotherham's manager

I blame the F.A. This ridiculous rule that clubs can only appoint Managers who have previously played for or managed them makes no sense at all. Worse still, other clubs flagrantly breach this rule without any sanction at all. It's not fair.

The suggestion of Steve Evans as the sole alternative to Warnock is a very daring one indeed. Rotherham must be at least 7 miles from Jurassic Lane. Revolutionary stuff.

Can you provide us with a list of people who we should be allowing. You're now saying Evans shouldn't be on the radar because he manages a team not so far away.

Who should be looking for here? I am thinking we are looking for the right man, whether he has played for us or not or manages down the road should not matter.

Well, I've heard all the following managerial giants suggested on here at one time or another:

Warnock
Adams
Blackwell
Wilder
David Holdsworth
Andy Scott
Morgan
Slade
Pulis
Robins
Brown
Parkinson

Diamonds, every one of them. Just take your pick. OK, one or two are outside the permitted radius from S2 but we can dream, can't we?

What happened to the Sven rumours? Were they a load of crapola?

Personally i'd like to see Diego Maradona get the job. I don't really think he'd be a good manager for us, but i'd like to see his fat arse running up and down the touchline screaming at the players when he's off his tits. Be worth the admission money on its own.

Whats Parkinson done to offend you, he has no connections with us and his team score goals and win matches

Plus they have all managed teams that have picked up more than 4 points

Good point. We've done this since Warnock left.

Anyway, back to the thread topic and just noticed your avar, Bergen. Might be getting on a bit now, but is old Drillo available? :)

He actually is, as he left the Norway job a few days ago. Well past his sell by date now though at 71!

So, given what people have posted here Weir is a potentially good manager..in a couple of years when he have learned to add a bit of fluidity to his teams/gameplans/style etc.
But that it´s by no means certain that he´ll have years..or even a week, to learn that at SUFC

Nah, we are fed up with the board appointing trainee managers

Agreed classic example is Martinez at Swansea and Wigan, he started the hoof revolution there. Bag of shite they are, appointing an ex player like him. Jurassic Dave Whelan.

Great, the perfect example of giving someone 5 years to get nowhere. Let's just give Weir another 4 years to get to the same place
So you don't appreciate a manager who has massively reduced the wage bill, removed the older players, developed a good young side which promotes it's own youth while playing good football and staying in the Championship. If only we'd done the same.

That's not where we are right now.

Blackie achieved a lot of that but we had our tits bored off

Footie is about winning nothing else, people have lost that

Not for me it isn't, I want to be entertained and watch good football.

>30,000 watched us under Warnock (I don't want him back). It will be less than half that on Friday.

Just about everyone would rather watch attractive football, but it won't dictate their actions.

Just about everyone will eventually stop going based on poor results alone and just about everyone will start going based on good results alone.

Have a look at our pitiful crowds under 'successful' Bassett for a definitive answer.

My god, you're condescending Pinchy. Everybody else is wrong, and you are right. And if they have a different opinion to you, you'll just call them Neanderthals. Does this stem from your profession by any chance?

he's right though.. heh :)

I'm well aware I'm not amongst the majority on lots of things football. But I stopped going when Blackwell was in charged for a while due to the dire football, but it was successful some would argue.
Weir given time will turn the results around too, I just hope the board have courage in their convictions and don't bow to fan pressure.

I'm with you on Blackwell. That football was really dull. Not so Warnock, who delivered our most exciting times, as judged by peoples wallets. I'm happy that we've trying to play more football, but it seems fairly clear it's not working.

I completely reject the notion that there are 2 choices, as offered by the likes of Pinchy, and there's a hint that you fall into that camp. You can still be the Polar opposite of Blackwell yet boring too. We're there now, with the added effect of losing every week.

There's not enough evidence that anything's going to change. For me, you aren't asking for anything other than blind faith in this experiment. I just don't see it.

Unless we beat Crawley with a good performance, he should go.

I think that is unfair. People going to the games seem to be stating things are getting better and small changes are being made within his formation of choice.
What I'm asking for is that you can't be successful by continually wanting everything to work short term and making changes if this doesn't happen immediately.
