Would you consider him as a club legend?

  • Yes of course, took us from League 1 to 9th in the Prem, bouncing day massacre and derby double etc

  • No, he walked out on us when we was in the dumps, wasted millions of pounds on crap signings etc

  • Not sure

For me, he made me fall in love with football again and fall in love with SUFC.

Not because of attractive football but because of a connection between the city and the club.

Yes there has been disappointment along the way and I get why it might be time for him to go but I will always have the memories and think he deserves to never have to pay for a pint again

Legend is an overused word in most sports to be fair and it is very much of being in the era of the time. My Grandads legends are in need of research for me whilst my Legends that I grew to love player wise are mainly of the early 00s however that League 1-Prem team for me, in my era of watching 94-current, probably has the best combined memories. Although there were some iconic trips and moments in the other times, judging him on the first spell (excluding the exit) has definitely delivered although it could be argued after 6 years we were probably a bit bored of mid-table league 1 football. It’s difficult what status you would give if it was on the below “scoring system” I would probably have him as a club Icon rather than Legend, no statue in the car park just yet

Legend
Icon
Remember when…

It should be yes but he's really tainted his relationship with the fans
Only with the nit picking he's not perfect mardy fans who get right on the nerves of normal fans. Abdullah was lucky he agreed to come back after he virtually gave him a nervous breakdown. All the talk of mental health in football in the modern game goes on but our vile fans say dreadful stuff like he bottled it. He was ill but our neanderthal one cell brain fans don't consider this. Fair enough they're just a gobby tiny minority.

It’s time for a change but that ride from league one to the prem was unbelievable. So many good memories, the best time in my years of supporting the Blades without a shadow of a doubt. So yes, legend for me…Chrissy Wilder and Alan Knill 🎵

Highlights for me:

* The diving celebration with Fleck after his goal against Coventry.

* The coach getting back to Lane after league one promotion and him starting the chants off at the front of the coach.

* His league one interview at the town hall “I get my haircut down there”

* Celebrations in the hotel after bouncing day.

No, John Harris is.
John Harris is top of my list , coaching genius and a total gentleman.
Only time I saw my dad star struck was when we met him one day !!!
Although wilder is up there but his antics and poor decision making since January are starting to make me lose that respect.
It's one of the reasons I want him to go now before he alienates and loses a lot of the fans.

No, John Harris is.

By some distance .

With a combination of promoting local junior talent and signing players of various outstanding but unrecognised abilities on a shoestring budget , he put together the most exciting to watch and effective Blades team I ever saw .

In our first year of promotion to the top division under him and having beaten Arsenal at Highbury , the highly esteemed football journalist of the Sunday Times , Brian Glanville , described us as the best team he had seen all season and went on to wax lyrical about our style of play and the qualities of a number of our players .

I have to say that other managers including Basset , Warnock and Wilder have put together teams which have given me a great deal of enjoyment , but none which match that of that of the great John Harris team .

There's no doubting his love for club. Unfortunately when things are not going right this becomes a millstone round his neck, alot more than it should and what's good for him. He looks a very ill and tired man at times. The pressure on him as a manager and a fan must be tremendous.

He’s on the brink of becoming villain :(
The way i see it is that the good will factor is ebbing / has ebbed away - even from his staunch supporters - this means that there is a real fragility and brittleness within the tolerance levels towards him . This means , possibly , that the whole pack of cards will come down when the first negative thing happens - i think he's now on a hiding to nothing tbh . His more than allowable weaknesses are now becoming bats to hit him with . Shame ...? but what do i know

People both defend and attack him without reference to the facts of what's going on at the time.

Of course there are better managers out there, but he's proven himself to be a competent manager at this level now, after a spell of being well above average up until 2019

There's positives and negatives about him as a manager and the figurehead of the club. He's different to most, 'anti-establishment' and I do think United have operated in a different way to most clubs under him. When he goes, that individuality dies and United are just another club using a variation of the 'buy low, sell high' strategy. People are emotionally tied to that and it'll be hard to give up.

But to the owners, he's led anultimately unsuccessful team despite getting alot of £££, presided over £500k in fines for being mardy arses and had some 'questionable' moments off the pitch. I do see why they'd at least have questions

I do wish football would find another way word than "Legend".
Last week grown ups were describing Trent Alexander Arnold as a Liverpool Legend...He's 26 FFS..

Wilder should be regarded as a good manager who had some success . Pretty much same as Warnock , Bassett. Porterfield ..

No
He's not even the best manager in my time which for me is Dave Bassett.
The Bouncing day game and the Double over Wednesday, while they were nice they are just games of football you get the same amount of points as you would if we had done the Double over Hull.
I actually don't think he is that good a manager and while he has had some success at United he's had the most money too spend than any United manager in my time supporting the Blades.
He seems ok when things are going his way but struggles when they are not, which is probably why he has done ok at United because him being a fan has cut him more slack with the fans.
Wilder has never seemed to have a plan B, even in his first stint with us I don't remember him making many positive game changing substitutions. It got worse 2nd time around he resorted to us sitting back defending 1-0 leads.
The play off final was a good example of this, yes the momentum shifted when VAR got involved with our 2nd goal but he did nothing to try and get that momentum back other than drop deeper and deeper and try and hang on to 1-0.
When you also add in walking out the Backdoor, sulking off down the tunnel after the play off final, Sandwich gate, the totally unprofessional singing in the pub about the Wednesday manager then no he's not a legend.
If he's does leave United it will be interesting to see where he ends up in another job. Can't see many Championship clubs being interested, certainly not top half clubs despite him getting 92 points last season.
I wouldn't be totally shocked if he retired and just popped up on Sky every now and again.

Think that sums him mate👍

If he does stay, I'll be interested to see who, if anyone is willing to ask him why he thinks the team fell short so often v the promoted teams and in the biggest moments, if he thinks that indicates a lack of mental strength and if that's tied to how often the club was fined for acts of petulance during games.

I'd be genuinely interested on if he thinks that's resolvable with this group or if new starters are required to add some grownups

Three out of four of those memories are when he was pissed. Can't give him legend status based on him being a reyt lad when he's had a few.
As a manager, the group he got together for the League One to Prem journey will give him legend status in years to come when everyone forgets the bad bits.
