Ian was a school friend of mine and I knew him from about 8 years old, at Standhouse school on the Manor.
One of the last messages I got from Ian was about my son who is in the Army as was Ian - and even though he was an Owl said UTB - see you on the other side steve he said. A real choker for me. He was so courageous and never showed any bitterness.
He is the only person to climb mount Everest with cancer I believe raising thousands for charity.
He will be reunited with his old mum now - she would be so proud.
God bless you old friend - gutted
