Iain Turner has also signed. Turner, a goalkeeper, also boasts at spell at Oakwell on his footballing CV and has spent the past fortnight training with United.

Was also on loan at the sty for a while and did very well.

Please enlighten me as to the problem with Turner? We have 2 very good young goalkeepers who need game time so both will be loaned out which leaves us with 1 goalkeeper in Howard so we sign a back up goal keeper on a free for 6 months who has a pretty decent CV and still people want to criticise the manager for it? Honestly. The mind fucking boggles at some people on this forum.
 
Well he is 30 year old and never held a spot anywhere he has been (says it all for me), always sent out on loan just another journeyman taking a wage, oh and if that isn't bad enough he has played for the pigs.

As you keep raising the question about who should play between Howard and Long, I think we'll leave your goalkeeping opinions out of this.

so we send out 2 young keepers to gain first team football and get a decent keeper with 7 years at everton and barsley and the pigs all as no2 .its a win win for me good back up and the young uns get game time

I slightly favour long but pretty indifferent really. However, laying into Clough for bringing turner in as no.2 seems hypocritical when his career record is the same as Howard's. I aren't best pleased with some of our signings, but this one seems fairly sensible, don't see a problem with it.

Oddly enough a Wednesday mate of mine said he could be a decent signing for us and good cover for Howard. Turner was on loan at theirs when they were in this league a while a go and did alright it seems.

He signed for Sheffield Wednesday on a month's loan in February 2007[7] making his debut at home in the win against Southend United on 24 February 2007. Prior to Turner signing for Sheffield Wednesday, the club had failed to win in nine games. His arrival at the club sparked an upturn in form[8] and he helped them to avoid defeat in each of the eleven games in which he played during his loan spell.

My mate said he was surprised Wednesday did not try to sign him from Everton at the time.
 
I'm glad that Young Mr Clough has more knowledge, sense and planning abilities that some on here give him credit for. He does this job for a living you know.
 
Why are we waiting wages on a keeper like this whats up will willis as number 2? If Howard gets injured call Long back. Hate to see us waisting wages and as for the other signing I won't even be commenting on that.

Because, with cheap but experienced backup, we can also get Willis playing regularly, instead of sat on the bench doing nowt.
 
This be wrong ,
But I don't think you can have a recall on a 6 month loan .. Makes sense seen as Turner is on 6 month contract
 
Its a strange and thankless job coming in to be a second choice keeper. I'm glad we've got someone experienced to do it.
I do hope however that long and/ or willis progress quickly as I do think Howard lacks some presence and maybe at his level now.
If we want to progress we might need more
 
Decent cover for Howard this. His wages won't break the bank and Willis can go out in loan to get game time.

I don't know why you waste your fingers sometimes.Cloughy has all ready said what youv'e just said and if people aren't willing to listen to him,then there is no point in you telling him either.
