...to ask some tough questions for a change.

- why is Lundstram in the side? It’s an insult to the supporters to see that level of effort week in week out

- given the abject failure of 3-5-2, why aren’t you trying something else?

They were scared of/indebted to Wilder. He’s gone. Ask the questions we want answering. From what I read on here everyone would like to know the answer re Lundstram in particular.

Definitely sending the message that he doesn't want it permanently loud and clear.

Totally agree. I hate criticising players but Lundstram is the exception to the rule. What is the point? He doesn’t care and won’t be here in 2 months and we are relegated. I watched him closely today and there is nothing that he does that a younger player couldn’t and plenty he doesn’t do that a younger player could. He keeps the shape and plays safe passes backwards. The list of doesn’t do is long and everyone can see it

And add to that:
Why haven't we bought in a new Manager.....or at least have one lined up for definite with a defined plan for next season? We are drifting like deadwood with no leadership or purpose.
It was bad enough listening to CW with his excuses, "we can't compete with teams like Leeds", and moaning but now we just have Heckinbottom doing just the same old shit and having no ambition to even get the job, not that he should have it anyway.
It's fucking humiliating watching and supporting us at the moment. At least give us something to believe in!

We have a dedicated thread on Lundstram but to sum up, there was a 10 minute spell in the second half where he was involved:

He fucked up one free kick that fortunately fell to Brewster who hit a shot wide. Terrible delivery though.

He took a corner that failed to clear the first man and set them on a counter attack.

We got another free kick on the right that he also repeatedly failed to get behind the defenders and set them on a counter once more.

He received the ball in the final third, walked straight into trouble and set them on an attack.

When we were attacking down the right he tried a ridiculous back heel which immediately concede possession.

That's not forgetting when we were playing tippy tappy around our own box he laid the ball off to their man and barely sauntered back.

This is all in the space of one half. Even prior to that Jim Beglin was suggesting he might be hauled off because he was becoming a liability.

Play Osborn, Fleck and Norwood if needed be, but get him out of my club!

It's the same formation, with the same players and square pegs in round holes. What point is there in playing those players that aren't going to be here next season? I thought Heckingbottom might change things a bit, but we even have the same in game formation changes, at exactly the same times. With the exact same substitutions. Different guy, same old shit.

Got to say I've watched Heckinbottom on side-lines and he has shown no interest or passion

Some of us 'PlayStation managers' (Chris Wilder) were asking why the fuck Lunny was getting a game back in September. And here we are 9 months on and the gutless feckless twat is still a shoe in week in week out. Fuckin disgrace and thanks Big Chris. Shambles. Maybe us PlayStation Managers can tell the difference between shit and sugar.

I rather flippantly said in the shout box why are we playing the same players in the same system? Lundstram looked like a player deliberately playing poorly yet still plays 90 mins, Brewster on the bench despite the fact we need him playing as many minutes as possible in preparation for next season, it makes you wonder if Princey or Rip Van have been picking the team all along.

Once more.... don't mistake lack of ability for lack of effort.

In a League One side he'd probably look like a decent player.

Suit Wednesday next season.

nope that was a definite lack of effort, a few examples have being highlighted on this thread. Not chasing back after losing the ball (again) isn't anything to do with ability, its basic application

We have a team built and trained for 4 years to play one way.

If he tried to play 4-4-2 and we got hammered 7-0, which we probably would, then he'd be getting pelters on here.

I'm not sure what he's meant to do.

He has 3 midfielders to pick from and anyone else would be shoehorning a player into a position they can't pay.

He plays the kids in this team and in this atmosphere of defeat then he potentially damages them going forward. And again, if he played some kids and we got hammered then he'd get pelters on here again.

It's not like he's had the chance to work with them. Half have been away on international duty so how can you change the system without them there?

Fine. Maybe those are the reasons.

But after watching this week in and week out I’d like the question to be asked.

Not just Lundstram in particular, but nearly all our players finished either 9th in the Premier League last season, got promoted from the Championship, or were involved in the Championship playoffs. So they don't lack ability (not to the extent that the team they feature in would obviously be stranded at the bottom of the table) so surely there's some lack of effort, unless you think we fluked it last year, which I don't.

To be honest, I'm having a hard time believing all but a handful of them give a toss.

They dont care, wilder has gone and they know the supply teacher isnt going to drop them either.

In the press conferences with Wilder they only ask the most softball generic questions such as:

  • Any injury concerns?
  • Summarize the game for us
  • After any players in January?

---

I'm not saying that they should interrogate Wilder or be rude, but why can't they be more specific such as:

'Bogle had an impressive debut against Brighton the other day and has not been seen since. What are looking for for him to be involved with the team?'

'You stated at the end of the transfer window that 'the players in the building are good enough' , do you still believe that that's the case or have they forced you to reconsider your approach?'

'Sheffield United have the lowest number of foreign players in the Premier League. Is this a market that the club choose not to pursue, or is the infrastructure not available to make purchases and loans from France, Spain etc. where player fees might be less expensive?'

'You have called fans who question the system as 'Playstation managers'. Are we to take it you will never start with a significantly different system at the start of the match no matter if things keep continuing in the same vein?'

'Do you believe that other teams and the league have strengthened since last season and that they are more tactically aware of what Sheffield United offer and have raised their game accordingly?'

'Are you considering your position and do you believe you are the best man to keep Sheffield United up?'

I'm sure that others on here could think of better questions than the above.

I recall there was an interviewer a couple of years back from BBC Radio Sheffield who took this approach but Wilder it got a bit spiky and he wasn't used again, I imagine that's the reason why?

Someone from outside sport like Andrew Marr or John Snow would ask more intriguing questions, in sport in general I'd say we don't really have that

Look at how Heckinbottom is getting criticised after 3 matches.

There’s no point introducing a new manager into this toxic atmosphere.
