I would like one of our local journalists....

I think we are a long way from being able to play the current system. We are doing things the hard way, offensively and defensively. Opposition teams are running straight through our midfield - it is too weak and we are lacking the numbers to be competitive. Although the squad is not ideal for it there are combinations that could be tried. I don't subscribe to the idea that the creativity from Baldock and Stevens would be a huge miss if played at full back, rather than wing back. Is it two assists between them so far?

I agree in terms of being overrun in midfield (but if you take a defender out we'll be overrun in defence!).

The logical step would be to play 1 up top but we simply don't have the player to play there or any decent midfielders.

In terms of the wingbacks, how much did the midfield create today? Our danger was Stevens first half and Baldock for the diagonal ball in the second.

I honestly believe that this team is just too bad to be functional, whatever system we play.

It would be interesting to hear if he's been advised to keep the current system and not make too many changes for his spell as caretaker.

The Wilder-inspired formation and style and our foolish belief that somehow it will start working again seem to be holding us back, in my opinion.

This season, and not one real attempt at trying a different approach? Surprising.

Are we actually playing the same system though? We’re playing the same formation but that’s not the same as playing the same system. I’m struggling to watch at the moment, it’s on TV but I lose attention quite quickly and only half watch it but it seems to me there have been a few changes.
We seem to be more rigid about playing out from the back. Under Wilder, when our defence was pressed, we’d go long to try to push the opposition’s back line deeper so they couldn’t press as high and then, when we’d force them back, we’d start passing it around and playing out from the back.
Overlapping centre halves. Do we really do that these days? I’d like to see heat maps for Bash and Bryan and compare with Bash and JOC from a year or so ago.
Effective pressing from the front. We don’t seem to be able to press as a team anymore. Our presses are naive, we don’t seem to know how to “set traps” anymore. Instead of two or three pressing together to try to force the player in possession into playing a ball to a poorly positioned opponent or force them backwards, we have one or two run towards the man with the ball and he just beats it and takes two players out of the game.

We seem to have abandoned the things that made us effective, along with urgency and aggression. We were losing all of this under Wilder but it seems to have been accelerated since he left. Our tactics don’t seem to take into account what the opponents are going to do. It’s very much like I’d expect a development side to play like, where the emphasis is teaching kids to play ‘properly’ rather than first and foremost trying to win the game.

At our best under Wilder, we made the opposition look crap, we stopped them playing their game, then tried to impose our game. Now we make every team we play look like Man City.

We struggle to get to the stage where the centre halves overlap. We try to play out from the back, but usually end up having to pass back to Ramsdale to escape the opposition's pressure.

The differences you point out are the results of things generally not working, rather than tactical changes imo.

Yes, I was going to put that we rarely retain the ball long enough for them to get forward but then I forgot and moved on to my next point.

I thought the P&G 'Giddings' fella showed a disgusting attitude on Saturday, to three Blades callers who rightly questioned the desire, input and application - and not wanting PH on the displays witnessed.
Not sure if anyone else has mentioned on here, because it left me fuming, after just watching such a pathetic display.

I agree; it made P&G a painful listen yesterday when I was looking forward to a Pork tear-fest. And yet the woman who said she admired him for putting up with nasty Blades fans and the bloke who said he wasn't bothered so long as he could see the effort next season and we weren't in danger of going down again so give Hecky the job, were both given a free and easy ride by him.

If he was adhering to the BBC policy of not giving an opinion and displaying the Stephen Nolan technique of arguing with everyone, no doubt playing devil's advocate on many occasions, the first thing he would have said to the bloke was, "Where was the effort today?"

I don't listen to P&G much these days, and this reminded me why - it's shit.
