I won't be going to Wembley because.......

Exactly. I'm sorry to inform people but the "law of averages" doesn't exist :(

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_of_averages

What I would say is if we fail to prepare properly, don't have much attacking ambition on the day and don't have any shots as is the usual Play off final performance we will lose again. And if we're crap in the semis, we won't get there.

Unsworth having a few sessions on how to take penalties might help.

Free transport might persuade me. Oh, hours on the Blades coach, especially on the way home. No, I take that back.

Dunno... if each of our followers donated 5p match for the updates, we'd be laughing (4226 followers and counting).

But as it stands, I look forward to the abuse next season when we break the news to them that they'll be putting up with Radio Sheffield for the foreseeable future. I genuinely believe some of them think we get paid for doing that shit.

I've just donated $16 to you :) The Twitter commentary is invaluable.

It's never been something I've had to consider as I've always been 1000's of miles away but this year I'll be in sunny Sheffield for the weekend of the game. Pretty sure I don't want my lad's first Blades game to be a play-off final though. Wonder how much they'd charge for an 8 month old.

I'd be on the Krug if we won, so 200 smackers wouldn't seem out of the ordinary :)

It was more the "speeding" I was alluding to...

I'd say Krug would be your going up to the Prem pop of choice. This would be Pomagne territory at best!

No point saving that fine champagne for a day that never comes! nowadays I crack open the good stuff when KMac has the balls to have a shot!

......I've got a romantic weekend away with Mrs SV in North Yorkshire the weekend of the playoff final. We'll be in Leyburn, and have planned a nice walk around the Aysgarth Falls, as seen in Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves when Kevin Costner falls in the river. We will also be taking in the romantic delight of a trip just down the road to Masham, home of both the Theakston's and Black Sheep breweries, where I shall try and interest the wife in drinking bitter because it's nice and not because that's all we have left in the house after the wine has all gone and the malt whisky is safely hidden.

This trip was booked ages ago without any thought for the date of the final, and as the in-laws are paying for it as a Christmas present, looking after Small SV and providing spending money too I'm not going to finish it early just for United to disappoint me again.

I shall watch the final on the telly when we get back, safe in the knowledge that it won't be costing me over £150 in total like it did last year. I've been to the other four and spent quite a lot of money to see us be shit, every time. The one thing you can guarantee is United being rubbish in a playoff final.

That's why I'm not going if we make it, and it is a big if. So if you've said you won't be going in the past will you stay true to your word? And don't give me any of this "if you were a proper Blade you'd be going" bollocks, I've watched United all over, and this year a trip away with my wife is more important than a trip to watch United show they don't give a monkey's about winning a final.

Make sure you go for a meal at The Blue Lion, East Witton

Well i'd be slurping my krug off the arse of the lapdancers that you'd scored. :)

He's made the rookie mistake of not quantifying the attributes of said Lapdancers and has posted his word on here, a matter of public record... This could be interesting.

As it'd be me chucking the cash at said lap dancers they would be lap dancers of my choice.

It's rare that I can't back these things up in real life situations ;)

That's what makes it interesting, you've only committed to chucking the cash at them... he's in for a whole world of pain should you choose hilariously ;)

The man has a point... But of course if I was sampling his rather fine Krug, I wouldn't then select some hairy arsed lap dancer to then allow him to risk tropical disease from.... Would I...?

As blades we've suffered enough....

Come on you lot. You know you will be there. There are somethings you just can not escape from.

I am sorry but it is true.

Do the 'ladies' in the Flying Sportsman at King's Cross count as lapdancers? Mind you, probably struggling to get Krug in there

If we get to Wembley I'll be going. Hopefully I'll get to at least one of the play-off semis too. The problem is the creeping dread and anxiety that accompanies those statements. Thankfully Derry City are banging in the goals right left and centre at the minute so my summer football following is looking a happier prospect.

I won't be going to Wembley as i don't support Yeovil, Swindon or Donny.....................

Am out the country anyway thank god.

p.s i put donny as Brentford will lick em satday :D

I won't be going to Wembley because I doubt we will get to Wembley this time.

I'm not going because we're shit.
3 Play off finals and we'll lose for a 4th.
Not getting any more out of me.

If we get there, I will going!!!! You have to support the blades no matter what. One day we will win it, who knows, it might just be this year. However I think the hardest part will be getting to Wembley!!!!

Couple that with witnessing all our semi final defeats since 93, Wigan in 07, missing Leicester in 90.
So all that considered:
  • I understand any Blade who doesn't go to either the semis or Wembley. It's now so many times of the same owd same owd when it gets to this point. I know loads of Blades who aren't going, and I don't blame them one bit. It's getting tiresome, the magic of Wembley has totally gone, and it's almost like a lot of us are war weary of the whole process, especially after this awful season.
  • But... Can I live with the risk of missing it? If we did win in a final, that would be #2 missed of the occasions when we did it when it mattered. I know we 'never' do it, but 'what if'. Put it another way having invested all that time, emotion, money and ultimately disappointments with all the semis and play-off finals, to miss the payback if we do win one would be hard to take.
So if it comes down to it, I will probably go, as I just can't imagine the thought of missing it if we do finally do it.

There is no comparison with Leicester in 1990 Wilf - That was to reach the top flight and yes, it was a fantastic day to be a part of. Undoubtedly my best ever away day experience.

This is a shitty play off for the third fecking division cos we were not good enough to get into the top two when the points required have been lower this year than for many.

IF we get there and even if we win then , meh - it's just a poxy third division play off. Am I supposed to care?
It will be dull and boring and very low on quality so what's the point in spending that kind of money?
The real achievement this season would have been winning the league - so we have the full set of championship titles. Having to resort to the play offs, in competition with Donny, Yeovil and Swindon is an embarrassment in itself. It's worthless, meaningless, expensive, unrewarding (seriously I will not feel elated by winning this charade)

So for those reasons - I'm out.

Update! Due to my penchant for not putting dates/events into any sort of diary, I'd temporararily forgotten until my secretary (*cough* "mrs" *cough*) reminded me, that I'm actually in Manchester for a wedding on Saturday 18th May and booked to stay overnight.

Now my former self, Super Diehard, would've booked out early on the Sunday morning to ensure I was back in London in time to get to Wembley. Current self will partake of the facilities offered by the hotel, indulge in a leisurely breakfast and take a steady drive back to London, with maybe half an ear to 5 live if the unlikely happens and we're there.
