I won't be going to Wembley because.......

When someone (Swiss I think) said he wasn't going last year I replied that I have to as I don't wanna be the Jonah!
I couldn't think of anything worse than seeing em score and me not being there ( or even win perhaps ).
And then I went..........

A lot of the desperation, heartache and genuine pissed off with it allness that has been conveyed on here over the last few days has been with me all season.

I don't think that we will get there to be honest and as last year I really really don't wanna go.

Unfortunately the reasons I gave for going last year would also stand this year so No doubt I would make the trudge there again.

Football is fucking wank isn't it????

Mr Bloom of Cbeebies 'fame' is doing an outside broadcast nearby to me on final day that my 4 year old really wants to go to. I don't want to go to Wembley but I've been to all the others and I'm loath to miss the faint opportunity that we actually do win there.

A potential pickle... up to United to fuck it up in the semis.
 
I won't go and I won't watch it on tv. For me this season ends next weekend. I'll be back in August be am fearing the worst.

Just realised that my post assumes we'll make the final which I don't think we will. Hence the edit.
 
I'm not going because I'm on my work rotation in Japan. But in a weird twist I could end up being in the UK that weekend as I am due a meeting with one of the Contractors vendors, mid may in derby. It could be that I'm back in blighty that weekend.

But I bloody hope not, my Japan excuse is a good one...
 
My season finishes at the final whistle against Preston. Mind you the players season finished weeks ago.

Cant be arsed to spend all that money for me and my son to go. If they do get to Wembley then I will find somewhere with Sky to watch it.(maybe)
 
Too many dissapointments over the past 30 years and far too much money wasted witnessing them. This year if we get there I will not be attending. Probably have a day at the coast with the missus and the kid's.

Although, if we win through to the final I am afraid I will just have to go. The prospect of winning and missing out is too great.

I hope we get Yeovil first and can have a weekend in Somerset to wet the appetite. Much better than going to that shit-hole in London.

Same here.

As for a day out in London, there's a bazillion great places you can go before getting a tube to Wembley. Last time we barely left the pub in Marylebone in time to make the game. Had to drag ourselves out of a sunny beery venue in order to spoil an otherwise lovely day.
 
Yorkshire playing Unicorns at Chesterfield in CB40 that Sunday, seriously considering that over PO final, if we get there. The main thing putting me off is a) being no doubt surrounded by pig fans, who no doubt will be in full gloat mode if we lose b) if we win being surrounded by pig fans when I should be at Wembley.

If we get to Wembley I'll probably go and have £50 on the opposition for promotion. Not getting a season ticket next season for the first time since 05-06 season but I'll be going to most if not all home games and a few away games. No matter how sh1te we are and what division we're in I'll go to watch United. Don't get me wrong I booed the f***ers off the pitch yesterday but i'll always stick by the useless tw@s no matter how far they drop.

oh i forgot about when we last won summat in about 1912. i dont even know anymore. i used to know what we won and when, but the mind gets weary. im sure someone will correct me. i remember division four champions, cos i was actually alive. so yes, ive seen us win an actual proper trophy. cant remember what it looked like though. bet it wasnt much cop. do we have it in our *cough* trophy cabinet? do we even have a trophy cabinet??

Yes - we struggle to score at home like we do at Wembley and generally freeze on the big occasion. On current form I'd be amazed if we got as far as the final, though if Brentford beat Doncaster, there is a chink of light because all four sides in the play offs will be terrible form with the exception of Yeovil.... oh wait, hang on....

No idea. Can't even bring myself to go to the Preston game Saturday let alone Wembley if we get there. I've had enough, and cricket season is here, I might just enjoy a Saturday for once in a while!
 
Simple really. Whilstever it's played at Wembley and they insist on ripping people off for shitty seats at a third division standard game then I won't go anywhere near the place. Seasons over for me and YCCC take centre stage until the Ashes.

PS: Old Trafford/Millenium Stad. and properly priced and I'd be there like a shot.
 
I wont be going. But I said that last time. This time I have the excuse Im working till 2AM the night before. So I very much doubt Ill be there.
I m even undecided as to whether to go to semi at home.

Like blade too long I will watch in the pub making sre Im well bladdered before KO just to ease the pain.

Reading all these posts If they are anything to go by and we do happen to make it to Wembly it looks like our end will be half empty. Can you imagine what that will look like if we are playing the Mighty Yeovil with their huge following??

Could be the quietest play off final ever.

Well.
88 Went to home leg semi
97 Went to all 3
98 Went to both of em
03 Went to home leg semi and Cardiff
09 Went to home leg semi and Wembley
12 Went to home leg semi and Wembley

Couple that with witnessing all our semi final defeats since 93, Wigan in 07, missing Leicester in 90.

I was only 13 in 1990, and my folks were away that weekend, so going to the game was not much of an option. But looking back, one of my biggest regrets is not being able to witness that. Probably the one moment of my Blades supporting life that we DID IT when in all came down to the wire (I know it wouldn't have mattered with the Newcastle result, but anyway, we weren't to know that going in to the game). I was too young to appreciate the 4th division, so Leicester is the only shining beacon of success and I missed it.

Hull in 06 was decent, the play-off semis away at Ipswich and home against Forest have all been brilliant days, but never did we do it when at was all on the line apart from Leicester.

Part of me wonders about the law of averages and the 7th play-off attempt.
All things being equal (*but this is the Blades we're talking about) the probability of 7 consecutive play-off campaigns ending in failure is about 13%.
The probability of losing 5 successive play-off finals is 3%.

I actually think we're due a loss in the semis and our current form points directly to this. But we know the FGs like to mess with us, so we'll might sneak through a-la Stevenage and Preston.

So all that considered:
  • I understand any Blade who doesn't go to either the semis or Wembley. It's now so many times of the same owd same owd when it gets to this point. I know loads of Blades who aren't going, and I don't blame them one bit. It's getting tiresome, the magic of Wembley has totally gone, and it's almost like a lot of us are war weary of the whole process, especially after this awful season.
  • But... Can I live with the risk of missing it? If we did win in a final, that would be #2 missed of the occasions when we did it when it mattered. I know we 'never' do it, but 'what if'. Put it another way having invested all that time, emotion, money and ultimately disappointments with all the semis and play-off finals, to miss the payback if we do win one would be hard to take.
So if it comes down to it, I will probably go, as I just can't imagine the thought of missing it if we do finally do it.
 
Sticking with the gambling theme, like the addict who keeps doubling his stake to win his money back, I have to go because I've invested too much already. If I don’t and they win, the tears of Play Offs past will have been shed for nothing.

Yeah I know, makes no odds on this year's games. All things being equal we have a 75% chance of failure this year. But it does go to show how much fun the FGs have toying with us over the years. (and the collective lack of bottle of multiple United teams over the years - maybe that's closer to the mark than bemoaning luck...)
