I will be annoyed if Sharp is still taking the next penalty

No. I am very disappointed to go out tonight as I genuinely want to win this trophy while we are in this league. Might as well... No shame in wanting that.

But Silent is right. Taking Sharp off pens must be the main lesson tonight. He misses as many as he scores. We can't afford that. We're not that good. ;)

Don't worry, there's always next year!

It doesn't matter though, I thought penalties didn't count. Enough people slagged Nick Blackman off because he "only scored pens". It was the same with Beattie to an extent.

Madness.

Anyway, back on topic. As good a striker and goal scorer as Billy is, I'm in full agreement with Silent Blade on this one. He isn't a penalty taker.

Well he is a top draw championship striker.

Well said Silent Blade ..............
........... another failed spell at the club for Billy blunt anyone ?
I wasnt keen on bringing him back because of his lack of pace and height. I was in agreement with Bergen Blade last summer when he expressed his reservations about signing him again (his post was before we signed him). He is definitely stronger and more intelligent than the last time but he isnt really troubling the defences as much as Adkins probably thought

Not one of Adkins signings have been any good as yet, hugely disappointed with Adkins so far :(:(:(

but but but how can he be the 20 goal a season striker we've been crying out for if he's not taking penalties?

He hasn't really troubled defences as such throughout his career. He predominantly is a nuisance who scores from chances laid on by others. That's why he needs the correct players around him.

Che Adams on the other hand will scare defences and score goals out of nothing. Which is great, but doesn't make him the ideal partner for Sharp. Everywhere on the pitch we have a quandary!

Reluctantly agreeing, having previously defended the past misses. He's a key player for us, but it's clear at this moment in time that Baxter is the more reliable on form to be taking these. Players brought on with a specific reason of them being reliable penalty takers should be scoring them. I'm looking at you, Andy Taylor.

I know we lost on pens but did Sharp miss one during normal time? I didn't listen to the game.

No, he barely touched the ball after coming on.

Che Adams is a good prospect John, but he is hardly ripping this league apart is he ?.

Just because Sharp isn't good at penalties it doesn't mean he isn't a top striker. I admit this is a wild comparison to make but most people who regularly watch La Liga will tell you that Lionel Messi is not a good penalty taker, he has seen many saved - it doesn't stop him being the best player in the world

Ha - said that on the Shouty thing box muller whatsit last night

Depressingly, that is highly probable at this rate :(

Never mind Kenzo, the prospects for our beloved club are delicately balanced. Should Adkins be given the time he needs, plus achieve success in this timescale, then we'll all feel a lot happier. However, should we fall foul of poor decisions and signings, then we could well end up in the type of free-fall that will make our current plight seem like a walk in the park by comparison.

I've just read an article about the Tottenham manager, Mauricio Pochettino. It showed his complete devotion to the job and his expectation that players accept the same rigorous approach to wanting to succeed. He's has a clearout at the club, including it seems, the highly talented Andros Townsend. It seems that Townsend's commitment was questioned and found wanting, so although he's just about hanging onto his career at Tottenham, he now trains apart from the first team and would probably be sold if a suitable offer appeared.

I mention this as I do hope we have the same approach and that players respond in kind.

Fully agree with the OP. Baxter HAS to be the No.1 penalty taker on current form. Billy has already cost us at least a point this season missing against Colchester. Arguably, he missed 2 in that game but was reprieved for the first as the keeper almost saved it at his feet!

One less goal than Sharp having had three (is it more? I know Billy's scored two and missed at least one) less opportunites from the spot isn't a bad return, is it?
