I want that title

Honestly, I don't see winning League One as any kind of honour. I couldn't name any past winners, and I doubt many others could either. We should be ashamed of being in this shithole of a league, not celebrating winning more games than the others in it. All I want is out, whether that's in first, second or sneaking through the back door of the playoffs.
I'd be more ashamed now if Fleetwood beat us to the title

Agree with that. It's like the Checkatrade Trophy. Given a choice of playing the football we have and finishing second, or playing alehouse football and finishing first, I'd take the former.

(I'm not saying you have to hoof it to win the league or that they were the only two options, I'm just trying to explain my priorities)

Chris Wilder is a winner and he'll be more than annoyed if we don't win the title from the position we now find ourselves in.

That'll do me.

Me too. To see the skipper, Wilder and the likes of Jake Wright with the trophy would be unbelievable.

I agree, I've seen us win fuck all.

Winning breeds winning, it'll be good practice for the cup we will win under wilder

Lads and lasses , I said it at the start of the campaign, said various times during the season ,
100 points 100 goals , we probably won't get to 100 points , we'll get close to 100 goals though ,
gutted today as I should be in Manchester now getting on train for Sheffield , for Millwall .
We'll be promoted and up as champions before I'm next over v Chesterfield,
Excluding watching em v Bradford , but hay ho .
It'll be good to see Chessie giving us a guard of honour , while they take the pikeys place in league 4 .
It'll be another piece of history for our club by winning all 4 .
UTB .

I hope they do give us a guard of honour, and I hope it stings to the very core of that arrogant, immoral, stupid welsh scumbag who cost us so very very dearly 5 years ago. Looking forward to watching him rot in League 2 while we march onwards and upwards under Sir Chris.

I suspect that if it still goes down to the wire, nobody will give a toss if we finish top or second as long as we're up, but if we're promoted with a few games to spare, the Blades who say that they're not bothered now will then be desperate for us to go on and win the title, and many will feel little let down if we didn't.

It's all down to expectations, meet one and there's always another in line, but for the record, I'd love us to win it and in style, especially after the fantastic football we've played this season.

You paint a reasonable picture, Presty ( ;) )

Thankfully, I have seen us win summat and I was a Darlington but that was 35 year ago.

So, I'd like to see us do all four in reverse order from now on. Third div title this season, Champ next and the Dilly Ding, Dilly Dong trophy a couple of years later.

I have been lucky enough to enjoy the historic matches at Darlington and Leicester. I just hope that our younger fans, who haven't had much to smile about, get their title celebration day out at MK Dons - in whatever fancy dress they want! See you there.

My £50 on us to win the league at 6/1 gives me a financial interest.

£350 will nearly cover my season ticket for next year, so a big like for the OP......

They have to win it. Not just because of the fact that they deserve it, through being the best team in the league with the best manager. But because we deserve it. I'm 30. All I've seen us do is that intensely anti-climactic 2nd place promotion over a decade ago. Apart from that, I've seen us lose 4 play-off finals, 3 FA Cup semis and 2 League Cup semis. That's almost a double figure amount of big occasions I've seen us fail at. It's time for my generation to have some glory.

My dad still speaks in wide-eyed nostalgic joy of the 4th division title win. He went to every game that season, and says the day we went up was the best day of his life. I want to be doing that to my kids in 30 years about Tufty, Sharp and the league winning heroes of 2017. We've had over a decade of steadily increasing despair over the state of our football club. Now we're finally pulling ourselves out of the mire. It's the title or nowt for me.

Would be delighted if we went up in second on goal difference as long as we get out of this league. Were the best team in the league without doubt and should have enough there to win it but if we don't to class it as a failure is silly after the great football the teams served up this season. First or second I will be there clapping them on their lap of honour after the Chesterfield game whatever the final position.

99.9 percent of the time, the best team does win there league so if we don't and maybe finish 2nd, were not. Love to go up as champions but 2nd will also be fine, will still celebrate hard!

I have followed United from the early 60's seen us promoted but every time bar winning the 4th Division we have gone up in 2nd place, not even had the joy of winning the play off's again nearly always 2nd. It is high time we won something and were able to say nobody was better in our division. Come on Blades do in style this time. I am desperate for us to win League One.

Supping my morning brew and casting an eye over the forum I see talk of 'second will do'.

I can't disagree with the sentiment but consider this: At the wrong side of 30 years old, and an attendee at Bramall Lane for as long as I can remember, I have never seen Sheffield United win anything.

I saw Chris Morgan lift some made up dinner plate we got for finishing second in the championship.

I also have a photo with TC stood next to The Steel City Cup which was traded betwix us and them for a while in the mid 90's (do we still do that?)

You all know the close but no cigar stories. Safe to say none of us got into this for the glory but something would be nice. A story to tell the grandkids that doesn't start with 'let me tell you about that time we came close...' I've enough of them to write a book.

So... No second place please United. Foot down and get that title because there's a generation that have grown up, had kids of their own and are going grey at a rate of nots without even a sniff of a trophy.

Its time to change that.
amen brother.. no fucking prisoners.

Recent history has shown that winning the title is not necessarily a positive indication of how we will perform in the Championship next season

But I too have fond memories for us winning the 4th Division title and would really love us to go up as Champions. Second place would still give us what we want - the cake without the cherry.

Momentum means a lot though and and if we romp over the line it's better than the form we'd be in if we finished 2nd.

Next season is a whole different kettle of fish. I've got no lofty assumptions about that - I think we should feel happy with anything above relegation. But right now, we've got the opportunity to actually win something. We may not get that for a while. I'll be over the moon if we nab 2nd and go up. I'll be out of the Solar System if we win the league tho!
