Supping my morning brew and casting an eye over the forum I see talk of 'second will do'.

I can't disagree with the sentiment but consider this: At the wrong side of 30 years old, and an attendee at Bramall Lane for as long as I can remember, I have never seen Sheffield United win anything.

I saw Chris Morgan lift some made up dinner plate we got for finishing second in the championship.

I also have a photo with TC stood next to The Steel City Cup which was traded betwix us and them for a while in the mid 90's (do we still do that?)

You all know the close but no cigar stories. Safe to say none of us got into this for the glory but something would be nice. A story to tell the grandkids that doesn't start with 'let me tell you about that time we came close...' I've enough of them to write a book.

So... No second place please United. Foot down and get that title because there's a generation that have grown up, had kids of their own and are going grey at a rate of nots without even a sniff of a trophy.

Its time to change that.

Totally agree. Let's be ruthless and win the title at a canter. If we do, that's something they can never take away from the club or the sufc players this season. They should be desperate to win something for us since the only thing I remember us ever winning was the 4th division title back in 82.

I was at Darlington and it makes for a great day. I agree with you totally especially as (I hope) we will never again have an opportunity to that exclusive club of teams that have won the title of all 4 tiers of English football :)

I would have taken a 6th place finish and playoff win, with the winner going in off Billy's arse at the start of the season. Now, however, we have to win it. There'd be a slight aroma of failure if we went up 2nd from this position.

Lads and lasses , I said it at the start of the campaign, said various times during the season ,
100 points 100 goals , we probably won't get to 100 points , we'll get close to 100 goals though ,
gutted today as I should be in Manchester now getting on train for Sheffield , for Millwall .
We'll be promoted and up as champions before I'm next over v Chesterfield,
Excluding watching em v Bradford , but hay ho .
It'll be good to see Chessie giving us a guard of honour , while they take the pikeys place in league 4 .
It'll be another piece of history for our club by winning all 4 .
UTB .

I'm too young to have seen the Div 4 title as well so come on please Blades, get the job done.

You paint a reasonable picture, Presty ( ;) )

Thankfully, I have seen us win summat and I was a Darlington but that was 35 year ago.

So, I'd like to see us do all four in reverse order from now on. Third div title this season, Champ next and the Dilly Ding, Dilly Dong trophy a couple of years later.

You forgot our glorious triumph lifting the 1988/89 Yorkshire & Humberside Cup at Scarborough.

Winning the title might even surpass that though.

We're the best team in the league by a mile and should've already had enough points to have it all but wrapped up.

It would be a bloody travesty if we lost out on the title now - especially to Fleetwood.

Fortunately the players and staff will feel exactly the same.

I'm not going to be gutted if we finish 2nd, as above all getting out of the division is the main issue. But that being said winning the division outright would be a great way to finally get out of it, and I like Presty have never seen us win any trophy. There was always a slightly odd feeling of embarrassment on that final day in 05/06 when Morgs paraded the DIY-plate round...

I'd be well fucking pissed if we came 2nd. We've been at the top of the tree for. Bit now and that just simply cannot change. Also this is the only league we haven't won out of the 4.

I agree. I have kept my old 81/82 Hobbot replica shirt and am forever asked why I don't have any upto date ones.
I instantly reply that it's the last time we actually WON something!
Fuck second.........Let's lift this bleeding title.

Well i'm 64 and have seen us win next to nowt but have tasted the feeling of winning a league title like at Darlington, although those who went to Leicester with Bassets bunch of hero's will tell you we didn't give a shit that day about not winning the thing. Just for once it would be nice after the pain suffered in play-offs and cup semi's to actually win a trophy. COYRAWWIZZZAAARRRDDDZZZZ!

The squad we have, the team we have, the management we have and the individual players we have, don't want second best. This is the best we have seen for almost a decade, even the journey back from Walsall seems a distant memory. It's in our hands as a club and we (the fans) have a big part to play, let's really get behind the lads all the way to the finish line, we can do it!

UTB!!

It would be fantastic to experience winning a league again after so many nearly years. But the overriding factor for me this season is that I am getting so much enjoyment in watching us play football. Our midfield and the way they pass and move is a joy to behold after all the dross we have had to put up with over the last few years. Whatever happens if we keep playing this way I am loving every minute of it and success will surely follow.

I was 15 when we lifted the title at Darlington and the memory of that day will never leave me. My best ever day at a match and the things that happened will never be repeated as us fans got away with far more back then. Leicester came a close second but for many younger fans (my daughter and her boyfriend included) they have never seen us win anything. A great day out is one thing. A victorious one and a trophy is another. If and when it happens let's all savour it..... they don't happen that often

Honestly, I don't see winning League One as any kind of honour. I couldn't name any past winners, and I doubt many others could either. We should be ashamed of being in this shithole of a league, not celebrating winning more games than the others in it. All I want is out, whether that's in first, second or sneaking through the back door of the playoffs.

anything less than the title will be a failure now.

and we need to become only the second club ever to win all 4 divisions.

Nobody will be advocating replacing the Yorkshire rose with a star on the emblem but for once, just once, seeing a Blades skipper lift a trophy would be nice.

I really couldn't give a shit that it's just the third division... At 30 years old and 3 trophies a year up for grabs I want us to win at least one of them before I rack up a century of viewing failed attempts.
