I understand why Campbell Ryce has been on the bench...

He's got pace, and a trick or two up his sleeve, but starting him from the start is defo not the correct way to use him. Before today I was of the opinion he should be starting week in week out because he's been changing games coming off the bench.

Today it is the totally opposite, he's greedy, selfish and takes one touch too many. Could of had 3 assists today but instead took an extra touch and lost the ball. Hopefully Clough or someone else has had a word tonight.

Hope hes on the bench again against Yeovil on Tuesday.

He can run past a player but so can a greyhound, who like C-R can't cross the ball.

...and thats why he's playing in L1...

But does drag two defenders out of position every time he has the ball because you know he is going to beat someone thus creating gaps elsewhere...

They could have had the goalie playing centre forward when the crosses came in, it would have given us no advantage.

I agree he is good to watch - he did their defender 8 or 9 times and seemed to be going past or through them at will - but his final ball was dreadful and he needs to improve it - most of his crosses were far too deep - no-one there.

Had a fantastic opportunity to put Basham and others in and did not look up......must be frustrating to play with at times.

Well I might be on my own here but I think he's brilliant to watch, gets you out of your seat I love him.
Completely agree, I thought he was awesome!!! His end product is hit and miss but if it was as good as his build up play then he wouldn't be playing for a team like us.

Very few wingers hit regular perfect crosses, he reminds me of a lower division Valencia at man utd, very frustrating but very entertaining and a nightmare for a full back.

There were times today when JCR did the hardwork and the pass to a man inside was easier than the crosses he put in. .I remember when Lennon moved to Spurs. He beats his man like JCR but couldn't and still can't cross. They made him pass instead to men running on.

Personally, I prefer him as an impact player off the bench.

Recently I've seen a cross of his deflected into the bottom corner for a goal and a pinpoint cross allow Sparky to head in. Maybe his crossing is only good towards the Kop at BDTBL.

I agree with others, he's exciting to watch running at defenders and if his end product was as good to match he'd be at a better club. A bit like a poor man's Peter Ndlovu.

its never too late to learn maybe cloughy can get him think team rather than go for glory he has a lot to offer
and gets defenders on edge come on jam! better final product and you would be a star in this league.

The embarrassing non pass to Basham to kill the game off is enough alone to bench him.

He's excellent and should stay in the team, what a talent! His crossing was very good last week. It looked very slippery today (was funny watching the Bradford struggle to stay on their feet when JCR and Murphy ran at them) but that also means the ball sometimes slides off the boot when you cross it while running at top speed. Hopefully his accuracy will get better if he plays more.

People who are good at dribbling are sometimes poor at spotting their teammates in good positions, especially wingers when they are running centrally, and of course he should have passed it to Basham. Putting him back on the bench is ridiculous though, we should work on getting the ball to him more often and there's great potential with him on the wing and Higdon to aim for.

Woody said the other night that from the short time he's seen him play, he makes things happen, but he told him that he needs to be greedy and carry on at goal/shoot more.

His crossing is awful. Dreadful. Woeful.

Just look at his goal the other week. What a wank cross.

If he can sort his crossing out he will be a great asset to us.

Greedy bastard though, could've threaded it to Basham (I think) to be 1 on 1 with the gk.

Yep. And we could always consider coaching the bad habbits out of him. Or give him some slack because he's not getting regular football. He'd start every time for me.

Since he arrived, my opinion has been that he's a one trick pony who beats his man quite easily but fails to deliver any kind of meaningful cross. That was proved emphatically against Bradford last night.

However, when he came on against Orient, his crossing was excellent. I'd have started him last night because some of his crossing in the final 20 minutes against the O's was sublime. Was that down to the fact he came off the bench against tiring opposition? Or did he just fluke a few?

his crossing was woefull last night but i would give him the benefit of the doubt it was just an off night as he did everything else really well
if i was clough i would get one of the attacking players to stand near the corner flag to retain posession

you can only start jcr if you start a striker as well. otherwise he has noone to pass to.

Yesterday was one of the first times this season that we got our attacking rhythm going in the first half. They couldn't deal with Campbell-Ryce and he ridiculed whoever was down that side trying to stop him. We managed to worry and stretch them, and force them to dropping very deep, and long balls to Hanson was the only way they could compete.

It wasn't coincidental that also Jamie Murphy finally found space to take on his full back on his side. It's great for him when he's not the only attacking outlet in terms of running on the ball. Bradford doubled up on Murphy when we scored, and that's what saw Harris get the space to shoot. On a different day, against an opposition with a wider set up I think Scougall may have benefited even more.

We need to realise which key factors and inclusions actually make us work as a team, and not worry so much about certain poor decision making in the heat of the moment. I think the plan yesterday was for him to hit the ball towards the back post where Basham tried to get up. Their centre halves dealt with most things aerially in front of their goal.

Ben Davies is a solid player and a good alternative to JCR/JM/RF when things aren't working for them. But Davies was part of a team that early doors didn't work at all and Clough has been right to try new things as a consequence. We have to find attacking rhythm to maintain a promotion campaign and yesterday was a step in the right direction.

I'm a fan of JCR. He's direct, has good pace and great close control. Has weaknesses like any player and Clough uses him in the right way, when the side he picks provides enough balance to have him in it.

Good signing I think, he will prove to be valuable over the course of a season.

Absolutely he needs Mcnulty or Higdon and he will provide he goes past full backs for fun and in doing that he draws the rest of the back out of position creating more space for the strikers
