I like Duffy!

That was Duffy, thats what I meant Hussey is the supposed Dead ball specialist

I like Duffy as well. I heard some boos in the first half and couldn't understand why he was targeted.

He never hides and is always looking to do something positive with the ball. He's going to make more mistakes if he's seeing more of the ball than other players, but I think he'll be one of our best assets as the season wears on. We could just do with someone with genuine pace playing alongside him, or even on the other flank to take full advantage of what he offers (IMO).

First half we were poor although played some decent football at times.

We look composed when we have the ball and in control of the game. Scougall played well, looked like the old Scougall, if he can keep that up will be like having a new player. Reckon him playing just behind Done & Sharp could be very effective, running with the ball and threading Done / Sharp through.
Done, Coutts & Freeman all played well too.

I thought he got stronger as the game went on. Hesitated in getting the ball in the box in the first half.

Provided Duffy gets the support from his team mates, the mistakes will disappear. At times he lost the ball in possession purely due to lack of options

Yes, at other times he simply lost possession through his own mistakes, but lets be fair here, he gives us more in an attacking sense than a number of signings we've made in previous seasons

I like the fact he gets in the right position to create goals but his end product leaves a lot to be desired.
But in fairness, after a diabolical first half he improved considerably in the second.

Just to revisit this thread. I watched the Gills game through again this week and paid particular attention to Duffy.

I can understand why some get frustrated with him, but I think the reason that he's been spotlighted is that he never hides and is always trying to get on the ball and so is always involved. Added to that he's always trying to make a quick one-touch positive pass and looking split the opposition's defence with a killer ball. This is why his mistake ratio is higher than the other players who maybe take the easy option. He played 3 great balls to Sharp, Freeman and Clarke which all could have resulted in goals, but he tried other times and it didn't come off.

We've had so many players in recent years who've just gone through the motions, always played the easy sideways pass and even hidden when things weren't going for them, but Duffy isn't like that. I agree that he's taking time to settle, but I really think he's quality and will become a major asset to us over the season.

I don't see him as a winger, he hasn't got the pace. I see him more as a playmaker, and he'll probably come more into his own with players with pace around him like Lavery, Chapman and even young Brooks.

Agree with all of that Gray. Duffy's a clever so and so, and his ratio of misses is surely part of the learning curve of getting to know his team-mates?

He's a talent for sure, and I'm quickly changing my view of his value to the team. I've seen several of his passes that haven't been exploited positively, hopefully this will change the more he and the other guys play together.

He genuinely wasn't bad against gillingham - the only think that made him stand out as having played poorly was a couple of admittedly crap shots.

Don't think he'll be pushing the team of the season this year but certainly provides us with a different option. We are still trying to find the best formation and combinations going forward, and I reckon once it settles down we'll have a decent asset on our hands at this level. He doesn't hide and hopefully can develop some consistency, once we get a settled way of playing.

If and when we go on a run this season he will be a big player for us, he has as much ability with the ball as anybody and will hopefully dictate the play from central midfield with coutts and fleck, three good footballers to build the team around.

Duffy will be the player of the season YHIHF

He's getting better with each game for me. When we signed him I was ecstatic as I know he's ripped us apart many times before but he seems a lot slower than I remember him. Thought 2nd half v Oxford he was great (I'd have taken him off at HT too), played great v Gills too.

Growing into his role nicely, be interesting to see how his partnership with Freeman progresses now there's no Beard

Its odd how sometimes some people really rate a player and others are completely at the opposite end, not saying whos right as its obviously about opinions but I understand some folk on here really aren't that fussed about Duffy.

Duffy, as with the rest of the team, will improve as we get to grips with the style and how each other play. He gave too many passes away for me at Gillingham but like Billy up front with shooting, he was in position to actually try the passes. He doesn't look quick enough to be an out and out winger but he does have something to offer in the make up of the team. After last week I'm looking forward to see how we progress and in particular Duffy, Freeman and the centre backs. Hopefully we have started to turn the corner and the season is about to take off for us. UTB

I like how positive he is and that he’s always willing to receive the ball and try to make something happen. His form has been patchy so far but it’s important that we keep encouraging players like him so they don’t retreat into their shells. Not everything will come off but it’s vital we have a player or two in the team who look to create something when they get the ball rather than just passing the responsibility to somebody else. Basham and Coutts have some good qualities but neither takes responsibility in the final third. It’s a good thing that Duffy does even if it doesn’t always come off. Those 3 complimented each other well last Sunday. Let’s hope they continue to do so. If not, Fleck should be a decent alternative as he has a little bit of the qualities of all of them (except height).

Thought Duffy was poor myself at Gills and had a bit of a mare. One of those days when virtually everything he tried turned to rat shit. Still kept probing and ahowing for the ball and i liked his charachter on the day as he could have easily 'done a Hoyland' and played the invisible man for the rest of the game. He didnt though and thats to his credit. He tries to be positive and Utd have lacked players like that so i will cut the lad plenty of slack to get his feet under the table and settle down. I like the look of him in the team. Plenty more to come from that lad.

Spot on pal. For me Duffy HAS to be played in the 'number 10' role. The lads got bollox. Doesn't go hiding and that's the CHARACTER that Wilder has talked about. We've lacked BOLLOX in the squad for too long now and it seems Wilder and signings like Duffy are bringing it back- just look at Coutts and you can see how it rubs off on others.

Stop saying nice things about him when you know we need a scape goat , our lot occasionally , would boo Stephen Quinn , who was our best player 80% of the time .

He was garbage under Semi-Pro. He later said publicly that his career had gone backwards under first him, then Quickfix.
