Today was our "oldham" from last season.
We were shocking from front to back and the only player who deserved paying was flynn who at least tried.
Our frailties have been noted many times but today they stuck out like a sore thumb. We have no pace out wide to get behind determined defences and provide "quality service" to the strikers. We have a very fragile defence and regrettably Hill, Williams and Westlake are, at best, very average League 1 players. Cofie is like a fish out of water and will never make an impression in this league.
Is it now time that the supporters put pressure on the Board of Directors to freshen up the squad with the 3 or 4 players necessary to compete for the top 2 places.
........before I get my legs slapped, I'm not talking about "big" signings. They are not necessary in this division, just strong, consistent players at this level.
Over to you Board, because, like last season, I do not want to know about playoffs !!!!!!

How? Unless they will play for nowt then we can't just sign four players unless there is movement out as well. On todays performance I wouldnt be upset if harry was sold to get some funds. He let everyone down with his booking which I think rules him out of the Donny game

Top stuff Darth.

Pressure on board? Sadly too many of our fellow Blades would rather clap the club into oblivion.

Wilson has already said we we need to sell to get anyone in and keep within the new rules....so if no one buys who do we blame?

Some of us are still blaming the sale of Mick Jones! So who's fault is it really??

:)

How to put pressure on the board?
Ludicrous car park demos again..shoes off..

Board members dont like criticism, nor do they like public displays of fans displeasure. It makes them feel uncomfortable. We, the supporters, give them too easy a time of it !! If they're on the board then they have a responsibility to push the Club forward. That means strengthening the squad in this situation. I'm not suggesting we all take our shoes off (its still a bit cold for that) I'm suggesting that we ALL do what we can collectively, to put pressure on the Board to take what steps are necessary to take the Club forward. I'm open to suggestions !! Personally, I write to McCabe reminding him of his "supposed" ambition for the Club, although these days he never replies ........

noone is advocating clapping the club into oblivion Mic but after one defeat it is a knee jerk reaction.. people are disappointed .. bottom of league club and all that .. some were expecting a massacre.. that's football

my current opinion isn't cast in stone.. i don't believe there is enough evidence to commit suicide atm.. although i might have changed tack though if we don't improve rapidly

people say without mccabe we would go bust. well the path were on right now, were going to be anyway. every year we sell players and dont replace them. every year were getting worse as a team. every year were selling everything that isnt nailed down at bargain basement prices and investing nothing in the club.

if that pattern doesnt change we will be in the conference before long with gates of 5,000. the ground a new super casino, playing at don valley shithole and supporters starting their own afc blades. im sure all that sounds ridiculous right now, but that imo is the path were on. if we dont actually go out and sign players in january, i can see the crowds dropping dramatically as we slide down the table. 2nd going on about 8th with a couple more defeats its that tight. we arent far from the shit really hitting the proverbial.

Aye, but forget carpark demo's, writing to the club, making your point at a fans forum, attending a shareholder meeting - no, internet trolling is the way to get real action.

Keep it up Mic - the effects are being felt all around.................your bedroom.

Bollocks

Just needs the will to do it from McC.
Any money pumped in is declared as a sponsorship deal and therefore income generated and available for players.
Stop buying into this 'can only spend a % of income ' bollocks.

Imagine if Chelsea or Man City were relegated in Rangers situation and their owners living on a £4M wage bill.

Only thing missing is 'the will'

By the way if I was McC having blown as much as he has on SUFC I'd be reluctant to do so as well. Just want to point out that it;s not the % of income holding us back, thats just a get out clause not to spend and we're buying into it.

One thing we've been for most of this season so far is hard to beat.

Today we showed that a few changes to the line up and we struggle. We don't have strength in depth. I though KMac put in a decent display today and pulled the strings, but is also limited... By the fact that he will try everything and anything to avoid taking a shot!

The back 4 was ripped apart from that which coped comfortably against scunny and tranmere. Only Harry remained in place and it showed.

Up front we struggle, but it's not just about the strikers, it's about the supply for the strikers we have.

I think we need to play the JTW smart, we don't need to pressure the board for that, we know that the answer will be that we're at our FFP limit but Danny has to perhaps shuffle his cards a little... We need a strong centre half, if there is nobody in the development squad, get out and get someone.

I'm concerned about fullbacks, but If we get a decent centre half then I'd be happier to play 3 at the back instead of subject ourselves to westlake and Williams.

But we also need a finisher, a fox in the box... We have big target men, we need a poacher now. Sadly, today was probably ideal for Miller...anyone in the academy?

exactly. load of old flannel. can easily, and legally, fiddle the figures. he just wont spend the money. if that was a problem we'd just employ cresswell stupid money to do mccabes gardening instead of being a player to get him off the wage bill. he'd probably be better at that anyway.

Agree totally. I thought we showed alot of pace down the flanks today but the amount of times Westlake,Blackman,Williams,Chappell and Flynn didn't beat the first man with the cross meant Kitson,Cofie etc were totally ineffective

the trouble i thought was we completely lack ideas. it was pretty obvious early on that Hartlepool were set up for our crosses into the box and dealing with it. so we just kept doing it. hardly any of those crosses looked dangerous, sometimes due to the delivery, often due to the quality of their defending crosses.

we should be focussing on the fact we have KMac and Kitson, both good quality quick passers and capable of the one and two touch stuff that unpicks poorer sides. the pitch didnt help as the ball wasnt arriving fast enough, but we just ran out of ideas i thought. Wilson should have changed it earlier, but i still dont think we'd have won.

i also thought Maguire had a good game, but that might be due to my alleged presidency of the Harry fan club. i do love that man.

He was awful. Looked heavy legged and off the pace. Howard bullied him all game. Him missing a game might do him the world of good as he can rest

That's the key to it. We were told recently that we had budgeted in such a way that we can afford one more loan on top of what we have (explaining the non-renewal of Gallagher).

So we need to release someone to buy someone. If, as rumoured, we're sending Porter to Motherwell in return for Murphy, that's great business on the face of it. The one type of player we have too many of is target men (Kitson, Cresswell, Porter, Ironside).

It really irks that Birch's contract award to Cresswell is still - after all this bastard time - costing us dearly. Just think what we could with his salary in this division. Two decent players?

i think he was a bit off the pace, but he's still our best defender and he cleared up most of what came at him. first goal wasnt his fault, couldnt really see the other 2 as i was in the kop and they were at the other end.

im probably biased for 3 reasons:

im allegedly president of his fan club
he made me and the entire row behind me laugh when he comically went down for a free kick on the edge of their box
i had him for last goal at 25/1 :)

I disagree regarding Cresswell. I'm pretty sure we could've offloaded him if Danny wanted to. But I'm inclined to think that as he forms part of Danny's back room staff that he then wanted to keep him.

We can't keep looking back to previous regimes and their decisions. The current manager also plays his role in naming those he wants to keep and in which capacity.

What I will say on Cresswell is that on the playing side I currently don't see a role for him. He's not an impact player, last season he complimented ched well. This season he's struggled. The wide role needs more pace than Cresswell can give, centrally if we have a fit Kitson then Cresswell is just a replacement for him, but Ironside can offer more if given the chance.

So does Cresswell come off the playing staff completely? Unlikely, which leaves Danny with an expensive sub that he probably won't use much... But then Cresswell surprised us last season....
