... but this picture speaks for itself:

Monty looks the happiest I have ever seen him!

United players are doing their bit for the city by getting stuck into this year's Big Spring Clean.

Several stars including Chris Morgan, Billy Sharp and Nick Montgomery, donned high visibility vests and joined the voluntary clean-up operation which took place on the streets around Bramall Lane.

I bet it wasn't voluntary as far as they were concerned...

The Big Spring Clean initiative, which is taking place across Sheffield from 21st March - 19th April, aims to rally hundreds of people into joining together to spruce up the city.

And the players showed that they're dab hands at picking up litter as well as points as they tackled the streets before cleaning up with a one-nil win at Reading.

The scheme, which is a partnership initiative between the Blades and Sheffield City Council's 'street force' team, will hopefully eradicate the litter left in the area around the ground after home games.

Every Monday and Thursday following a fixture at Bramall Lane, volunteers can take part in a two-hour clean-up operation between 6pm and 8pm.

All necessary equipment is provided by the council and volunteers are rewarded for their efforts with a match ticket to see the Blades.

Sue Beeley, Sheffield United's head of community, said: "The Big Spring Clean is a fantastic opportunity for the local community to make a difference in Sheffield.

"The Blades players were more than happy to lend a hand to the hard working volunteers who do a brilliant job in keeping our streets clean.

"We urge all football fans across Sheffield to do their bit for the city."

Good idea for all those with a bit of spare time in the evenings who are always whinging about cash flow stopping them getting to the game :)

I'd hazard a guess there isn't a rubbish bag big enough to chuck Hillsborough in though.

Looks like Sharp is missing the bag like he misses the goal ;)

This scheme has given me a brilliant idea... We could charge local people a levy of some kind (a tax if you like) and pool our resources into some kind of local governance who can then provide us with community services such as street cleaning. We could call it "council tax" or "business rates" or something? Surely if we paid for such a service our footballers could stick to football and the local government could spend the money we give them on services like cleaning the streets?

Nah, forget it, that would never work.

P.S. In all seriousness, tramps who drop litter should be given an on the spot £1,000 fine which gets put straight into the street cleaning fund.

Look at Morgan's elbow....

Monty was whispering through gritted teeth "shouldn't we be playing football instead?"

Morgan heard "watch out for the inbred" and naturally thought a dingle was approaching from the rear.

Finally a job that suits Nick Montgomery.

I was thinking more along the lins of sharp.
Seen as monty has been one of the best players this season, the rubbish he has been picking up seems to be your comment.
