Roy's View From... Hull and Readings Fans Views On Rubén Sellés

It's the most football fan forum view ever though isn't it?

I must have read those comments a 1000 times on here about a dozen managers over the years. It sort of sounds informed, but is usually based on little understanding of the brutal nature of professional sport
It gets said every time a manager doesn't try my ideas. If I've thought of it, they should be able to as well, must be inept. (Doesn't matter if the idea is shit)

Selles changed his formation under Reading, just like Wilder changed it multiple times under us and was tactically fluid, particularly last season.

At the end of the season where we finished 9th I predicted we'd be relegated the following season. Why? Firstly, despite finishing 9th, we relied on a solid defence but only scored 39 goals in 38 matches. Our top scorer only got 6 goals.

In order to stay up we'd need to replace some of our existing eleven with better players. Wilder brought in 13 players the season we finish 9th. Only Henderson, Mousset and McBurnie played regularly. So I didn't trust him to replace players as he was too loyal to the players who got us up in the first place. We'd also need a lot of money to replace them and I had my doubts that the Prince would authorise this given Wilder's wasteful spending the season before. Add to this we had no players that we could sell for significant amounts to fund the summer spending like other teams.

As soon as the "greatest transfer window" happened I knew we were going down that season.
He was too loyal to replace the players, but not to the players like Sharp and Duffy who got replaced? You just project a narrative you like onto the situation.

Guess what, normally the teams with the lowest budgets get relegated. It didn't take a genius to predict that, we had a half a squad from League 1 ffs.

Im so conflicted about this, I like the sound this guy and it does freshen things up, but does anyone expect him to get over 90 points this season?
Im a huge Wilder fan, but not only have I already made peace with the change but I'm leaning towards being happy it was made, that said I also think this to be true...
Our fans MIGHT be more entertained this season, BUT as competition for the league and play offs I do think we'll now be weaker.

He never replaced Duffy. That was half the problem. Lundstram was a completely different type of player. If anything Didsy stepped up and filled that void with the way he dropped back and linked up.

This line is being pushed a lot, but I don't buy it.

*The road ahead may require patience, but also promises excitement, growth, and a footballing identity that reflects both our history and our ambition."

There's no mention of promotion in their statement. Is mention of Selles and our long-term future.
But COH have already set their stall out, based on the Premier League and staying there, New owners with no patience? Is that why Wilder was released from the same 3 year contract?

Where have they said they've parted company with Wilder due to him not getting promotion?

Pleased there was no view from Southampton!

I read mainly the positive ones and ignored the negative ones! But there's a lot of decent feedback there, I like what I hear about a ball over the top because it can be do effective and if hate to watch slow passing football played around the back then inevitably give it away and a goal for the opposition!

I don’t think they’ve said much at all. You add up all the red flags in the Wilder dismissal? Must be more than one reason.

I reckon he was sacrificed to let one of the wealthier investors release more funding for the club. In the absence of facts, interested folk make shit up. It’s called opinions. 😊

Gerrit forward!!! :)

Tactically inept, stubborn, baffling substitutions could be describing every manager in history who has been sacked.

It's rare that anyone has owt else to say.

Cheers Royston, can we have Wilder back now please, the joke has gone far enough.........
