We are now, at the height of our financial and recruitment appeal. Newly relegated, one of the three new 'big boys' in the division, great infrastructure, recent PL buzz and parachute payments. We won't ever be able to attract more or spend more than we can now, and this will decline with each year and window that passes.

And yet still, we have the square root of bugger all to spend. A squad that is hampered will only get weaker, lower on confidence and lower on quality. If we can't spend now to rebuild, then when? The omens are bad.

We should be spending to rebuild and attempt an immediate return to the Prem. Norwich and Watford got it right, Fulham look to have done the same so far.

So, what's wrong with us??

You are spot on. Wigan, Sunderland, Stoke, Coventry...it's far too early but if we don't get it right we could become any one of these.

As bad as some of those names were, (and this is purely subjective), Dougie stood out for me as being totally unsuitable for the pro game.
Im pretty sure he left us to go back to his trade as an electrician.
